The Drifting Car: A DIY Project
I want to thank you guys for letting me drive your car, it's really cool that I got to drive it and appreciate it. I'm just new to this car and I was planning on getting rid of it, but we're actually going to do another drifting day while I'm here and it works out. I'm not the craziest about this car, but it does work and it's not a bad thing to have a running car here, so I might hold on to it for a little while.
I didn't show you guys this, but I did stuff it into the wall during our last drifting session. It was kind of like a sticker entry contest and they moved the starting line back without telling us, so I went full throttle and ended up stuffing it into the wall. Luckily, I was able to zip-tie the bumper together and bend it back, but it's pretty good that I got away with it.
I'm going to get rid of this seat because I didn't feel very safe having no cushion sliding around with the harnesses all hooked up. It was weird and stuff, so I'm going to put a new seat in it and do some other little things like angle the seat back a bit more. I also want to make this car a little nicer, so I've got my eye on Dave's junkyard coupe around here and I'm thinking of snatching some door panels off it and cleaning them up.
I've decided to spray the new door panels black all over, which will hopefully make the car feel a bit nicer. I was also thinking of trying out a custom paint job, but now that we're on a tight budget, maybe 50 bucks for a half-dozen gallons? It's better than nothing, right?
I've been wondering how this car is getting filled up with smoke compared to all my other cars, and it turns out that there are several little holes in the cabin because nothing is sealed off back here. The smoke just seeps right in, which is kind of funny, but also a bit annoying. I've started sealing those holes up with some aluminum tape to try and prevent the smoke from coming through.
I've also been making some modifications to the car's interior. I made a little hole where the shifter was previously located, cleaned it out, and got a prototype motion OTV shift knob. It's red, which is nice, and it feels a bit more comfortable with a vacuum cleaner inside it. Maybe I'll angle the seat back a bit more in the future, but for now, let's just move on.
We're planning to do some fun stuff tomorrow, so I'm looking forward to that. The car seems to be running well, except for one thing – the coolant level was down quite a bit, which is why it was getting warm. I've replaced the upper coolant hose and bled the coolant to try and get everything back to normal. Now we're good to go, or at least as good as this car ever gets!
"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enso technically speaking right now I'm coming to you guys from the future because we already filmed driving this car mainly because there's about two down four we wanted to get out there before it got really wet because why didn't we want to dry this thing in the range rubber yeah first if you guys haven't seen this car before this is Trevor's turbo Civic and I'm actually a very very big fan of this kind I've been really excited to drive it before we go take it out I want to get a little bit of a rundown what is this is eg kgk 96 EK coupe it has a 99 front end on it and it has a fully built D 16 in it you know single overhead cam VTEC head how many liters 1.6 so sixteen hundred cc's of fricken little Honda fury so single overhead cam so a lot of people actually don't push a whole lot of power out of these it just cuz the transmissions can't hold it and I mean I I've broken like five of them in the last like month and a half so this is on this is its fifth transmission in the last like two months basically the fastest I've ran at the track was 123 miles an hour at 11 7 snow boat with a 1 6 3 60 foot and I was having a bunch is shifting the but it should go almost a low 11 high 10 now that I could actually shift it so we just put another in it last week right before you guys got here that makes 512 horsepower I was tuned my brain at PFI and yeah it's fully forged sleeved has Bob Springs retainers at some sort of cam some Dietrich's injectors d-trix fuel pump Hahn data s 300 tune of Biscay stock ECU they just solder daughterboard in there it's all real time you plug in USB be sure icing coilovers and you know garrett garrett freakin 3076 ball-bearing turbos Ono's Garrett that stays a Gentoo there's a lot of cool little things about this car don't want to bore you guys too much right now though I'm sure you want to see us go out there so if you want to check out more about this car obviously you guys can check out Trevor's channel but it's a very very cool Civic and I'm actually about to go I'll actually better go out with Rudnick as a passenger so we'll cut to that footage now all right so not only it is my first high horsepower front-wheel drive car I don't know I mean oh is if you feel confident that I'm gonna be okay to the car so it's his first second third yeah okay I'll go easy yeah so not only this is my first time driving like something crazy front-wheel drive thing I was like ready you should come with me I'm down dude I trust you wanna be long not maybe I don't know reverse isn't a thing I don't know if a virgin you're making me nervous can't be nervous because then I a little too fast to see you Oh telling us what I do should I go with you so you can launch it what do you mean you gotta launch it hey baby here we go would take it for a rip it all come back and pick you up yeah you tell us I just go wide open throttle not a good thing so I do that when I Drive no power steering all right good we're supposed to rain yeah that's not good for this car what they must been fourth no I mean I could imagine how much holiday 500 words boy let me find something my mates like 200 spins like first you second chirps there so yeah they think is about to be rowdy I'm a little nervous for it I'm a little nervous I don't know where to go but if it goes into the other way they mean I I'm definitely driving like a girl like I'm sure whatever drives and there's like no lag through the gears yeah you know like I didn't want to like go in the gear and you know if there's like cool boosts there that is like I felt the car I wanted seemed to the play Wow I don't know but it was fast the gears don't run out long I feel like grip they're different after yeah I didn't lose the bomb site that's just like the fun part but like it it doesn't purpose I thought like I throw a lot of grit yeah but it just keeps Tomi but it said it's so terrified because it's like I don't know thanks for the same time it's cool because I can spin it but you still feel it like in salary yeah yeah it's like a let's take them you know you're too much of a TK teacher watch this but it's genuinely how I feel dude my facial reactions are gonna be the the most ridiculous thing I was not like putting on a show or anything for the camera I'm driving it like I think third is where I start to get dicey and then I'm just like I love it it's so much fun the tour series in Ilia what the torch dear yeah and then when you go to break it feels like the whole thing's like all right dude uh I was like being real nice I'm trying to push him more I think he's too scared I'm sure you could I don't know I don't want to be bad enough he doesn't trust me I trust oh yeah I trust I don't know I'd be down I would love to watch you know you got a sink here you should you should drive for your video okay yeah yeah it's gonna be good I would like for you to be the password to Maxine you're too scared what's up you want me to launch it I mean hop to the backseat I didn't videos but then I remembered by Evo and I don't know whether I should like bang marvelous Oh you get in here what'd I do wrong you trying to know I'm getting back I'm melting I did my best nobody was trying to give me the weapon you break in turn with I told well they absolutely not all right so post-dinner we're back at the shop we talked about that all-wheel drive setup and wouldnõt we did we mentioned in the car didn't we yeah we were filming a clip of my camera yeah so walking over here he's already stacking parts so a very common thing what would you say in the past like two or three years is making these civics all-wheel drive because you can pull parts off of are they wagons yeah the like the 89 like waggle van the manual uh-huh they have this it's basically a real gift like the dip and the CRV has a bunch of clutches in it this is like a live diff that's like in the back of your 240 and the main thing that makes it all work together is this viscous coupler so basically limits it basically lets everything slip and how I understand it how people have explained it is it does like a 70/30 split so basically still launches like a front-wheel drive car but it just doesn't spin because it has that 30% more you know ish and you can change the viscosity but yeah so uh that people like rebuild them for drag racing yeah this is k24 a - which is like the best kind of stock engine to start with for boost cuz you have 2.4 liter dual overhead cam dual VTEC and this is the all-wheel-drive crv transmission and you can see I have a Chinese fully boy on here just for for some thumbnails and yeah I got a bunch of parts over there I got some big brakes I got a manifold I have a complete like rear trailing arm setup that literally like just bolts on so like the WAGO van diff and everything will literally just like go in the back of the car and I'll just bolt it together there's all these like billow arms ones all this go down on your channel next week as soon as you guys leave that's when I'm going to start so then I'm gonna take the that 500 horsepower D series and put it in a 4-door sleeper and do some fun stuff with that because that that engine it's just so much fun it's definitely fun so anyway the what what do you mean the rear stuff that trailing arms on the car yeah yeah we do like it real quick oh wow this is like a was like a legit kit huh oh yeah who makes all this that's pretty cool only like in order to get the this rear rule or this this hub on the back you have to take the WAGO band stuff and basically cut it and weld it and put it all in a jig and you know measure a bunch of stuff and they literally you can see it's all cut and welded they have a nice jig and this thing will literally just bolt on the back of the car this is the billet diff mount so correct me if I'm wrong I think when I was pricing it out when I was planning on doing it over the drive circuit myself it was about four grand for all the all-wheel drive stuff is that about on par or do you spend a little bit more including the the all-wheel drive stuff like the diff and stuff I'm saying with everything all together yeah well I think four grand was like the homie hookup price and then you have to get the all drive transmission to which those things are like 1,200 bucks the diff axle and viscous coupler are like twenty three hundred dollars if you just want to buy them and this stuff's like twenty-seven so the funny thing is all that like wagon stuff actually used to be really cheap until like people figure this out hold any power people are running like seven second passes on this stuff stock waggle van dips and I'm pretty sure stock rear axles because that viscous coupler doesn't it doesn't squat the car like an Evo or an STI it just launches like a front-wheel drive car that doesn't spin it's cool so anyway uh thank you for letting me drive it appreciate it I'm just new one now yeah so if you guys saw my posts on like Instagram and stuff I was planning on getting rid of this thing but we're actually gonna do another drifting day while I'm here and it does work I'm not the craziest about this car but it does work and it's not a bad thing to have a running car here so I might hold on to it for a little while I didn't show you guys this but I did stuff it into do some other little things like the angle kid and try to make this thing a little bit nicer tonight not saying I'm surprised every single seat bolt including the bolts of the brackets loose every single one not even kidding okay car so I got the seat out now Rodney what job you used to ride BMX quite often I did you ride Street often okay well if you've ever written Street keep riding Street in the back of your head sniff this seat and tell me what it smells like just sniff like right around here give a good ol whiff I don't know anything sniff around this is weird you just get a good whiff you'll you'll find the scent but dude I swear something in the car smells like hobo pee like I was ever gonna guess that hole dude if you rode Street BMX you would distinctly know the scent of hobo pee that's rocky it's got a very distinct selfie well I don't know it was by the cedar yeah I don't smell bopi dude oh you know if I find this Mulligan egg please I wasn't joking when I said that literally every single one of these bolts hand loose I didn't even loosen those disciplining to keep this car for a while I'm trying to make it a little nicer and I was thinking I remember Dave had a junkyard coupe around here and yeah snag some door panels off it and I'm just gonna clean them up and spray him black all over I think it'll make the car feel a lot nicer I just black some grease remember they're probably gonna look pretty nice and brown honestly might look kind of cool in retro one another no so I got one to do both doors yeah yeah I'm already out that's custom I have a solution though oh you want me to charge trying to get me to pretend like I just sprayed these out when he did it so he's got me holding the gun I guess you hold it halfway no paint comes out so like it's gonna look like no I don't actually did this painting all right it did look good you look way better it's really interesting lzl a customs I was asking five thousand cash sure but now I'm thinking I might get fifty five hundred you spiced it up how's a joke please don't do me I saw some of you guys were curious as to why this car was filling up with smoke compared to other cars I've had all these little holes in the cabin because nothing's sealed off back here all the smoke just seeps right in it's kind of funny how it works but it does so just to show you guys some stuff that
