16-inch MacBook Pro Unboxing and First Impressions!

"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: en(Justine gasping)- This is the brand-new,16-inch MacBook Pro.This is pretty much everythingthat I think we haveall wanted in an upgradein the MacBook Pro.We have a bigger screen, faster performance, better battery life, more RAM.Can spec this thing outto an eight terabyte solid state driveand 64 gigs of RAM.And, of course, a redesigned keyboard.Although, I have had no problemswith my Butterfly keyboard. But this is now usinga new scissor mechanic, and that keyboard design is being modeledafter the Magic Keyboard's,that we all loved, that come with the iMacs. This 16-inch MacBook isnow going to be replacingthe 15-inch models. So let's unbox this and take a first lookat the brand-new, 16-inchRetina MacBook Pro.How many times am I gonna say16-inch Retina MacBook Pro in this video?Probably, like, 500.(Justine gasping)(upbeat music)Oh, man!It does come in two colorsthe silver and the Space Gray.So this is the Space Gray version.Oh my gosh.I need a moment. (exhaling deeply)This smells like red velvet cake. The new MacBook is 4.3 pounds. The previous gen 15-inchthat I have right here, which looks like an absolutemess, is four pounds.Side-by-side comparison.Just in my mind, I knowthat this one is heavier, but just holding thetwo, I can't really tell. You wonder what this is on my old MacBook? This is Velcro that I use to attachmy external hard drives to.This MacBook will soon begetting the Velcro treatment, but not right now.Because it's too beautiful and pristine. This has the same I/Oports as the previous gen.It has four USB-C and Thunderbolt 3 ports. You can also connect to Pro XDR displays.Got a chance to see those things at WWDCand up close they are so beautiful.Of course we have our USB-C cable.I think we've all seenone of these before. Are there Apple stickers?Perhaps.(gasps) And they're Space Gray. The new charging brick is now 96-watts.So they made this alittle bit more powerful, but it still is same size and form factoras the previous bricks. That was like a nice paper feel.Usually it's like a plastic. You can get this in twodifferent configurations. There's the 2.6 gigahertzsix-core Intel i7and there's a 2.3 gigahertzeight-core Intel Core i9.Let's move this thing up.And what's really exciting,is this entire video that youguys are watching right now,I'm going to be editing on this MacBook.(Justine gasping)Oh my gosh, it's already starting up.I'm gonna get this thing set up.I'll see you guys in a second.(upbeat music)So everything's now set up,and because I have iCloud onall of my files are synced. So my terrible, messy, desktopthat I have on my otherlaptop is now populatingonto this one.One of the biggest highlightsfor this new keyboardis the return of theactual physical escape key. Now, if you do a lot ofcoding or programming, even in editing I need that escape key.And having it be just onthe digital touch bar,you would sometimes haveto do several pressesto get back to that. But now the escape key is back. And they also redesigned the arrow keys. This is also going back toone of the older designsbecause the new Butterfly keyboard, these arrow keys the left and the rightare full-size squares andit's basically the same sizeas the up and down. The speaker's have also been updated, they have a new six speaker sound systemand they have an updated microphonethat's supposed to give youstudio quality recording,in a three microphone array.Let's test out thesespeakers by listening to,what I always test out with music, Tool.(upbeat rock music)Oh my gosh, is this loud! This sounds incredible. So I open up GarageBandand now I'm gonna test outwhat it sounds like usingthe internal microphone. The new MacBook is alsoshipped with Catalina, which is great because I honestly haven'tupdated my current MacBook yet.So this is really the firsttime that I'm getting to havea MacBook experience with Catalina. So first let's test the audioon the new 16-inch MacBook Pro.Hi, hello, this is Justinereporting to you, not live,in a room that is slightly echoey. So if you do hear a littlebit of that background noisethat's because I'm in a massive roomthat is not sound proof. Now let's move on to theprevious gen 15-inch MacBook Pro.Looking at these twothings side by side, wow,I cannot wait to get toediting on this thing. So let's take a lookat the size comparison.Obviously, this one is largerbecause it is a larger screen.Surprising that it's not that much larger, considering you're gettingan entire inch moreof a screen real estate.Look at this. Here's the size differencebetween the 15 and the 16-inch.Can tell right around here. But the real differenceis looking at the screen. Here they are, side-by-side.And if you take a look, youcan notice the smaller bezelsaround the side of the new MacBook,as opposed to the old one.And obviously you couldtell which one is old one,not only by the smudges, butby the size of the bezels. So the screen brightness onboth of these is the same,it's 500 nits. The track pad is also the same size. And, again, the keyboardis where the real updates also lie.So the keys are a little bit more tactile. So I feel like when you're pressing downyou actually feel likeyou're pressing a real key,as opposed to the Butterfly keyboard. It's a little more gentle,I guess you could say.But I'm really excitedabout these upgrades, especially having theseseparate escape key,the updated arrow keys. And also, the standalone Touch ID button.I'll be doing a biggervideo diving into some moreof the great things about this MacBook, but since this is just the first lookthe initial reactionto seeing this screen, like, it's larger but it doesn't feel likethe overall footprint of thecomputer is actually larger.I'm sure many of us rememberthe 17-inch MacBooksthat used to haveand those things justfelt significantly larger. They also felt really heavy. This feels like I'm almostusing my 15-inch MacBook, but just with a larger screen.I'm gonna plug this inbecause I have to hop on aflight here very shortly, and I'd like to have afull battery for the flightso I could edit. And speaking of battery, notonly have they managed toput the largest capacity batterythat you can put in here, that it will allow youto so fly with this,it's powering fasterprocessors, a larger screen, and you'll still get anextra hour of battery life. They're saying that it'll getabout 11 hours of battery, whereas the 15-inch you'll get 10 hours. And obviously, battery lifedepends on what you're doing. For me when I'm editingthere is no way I would get11 hours of battery life. But any extra battery life is appreciated. And, like, the charging brickwill give us more power.I mean this thing isso incredibly powerful. When you think about howmuch they have crammedinside of this MacBook, it's shocking.Especially an eightterabyte solid-state drive?Trying to get an eightterabytes solid-state drive, right now, just as a portabledrive is almost impossible. So to have that internal, onyour computer, is so amazing. Not only for me, as a video editor,is this gonna be incrediblebecause obviously huge file sizes. But right now I'm luggingaround two terabytesolid-state drives that are just portable. But now with eight terabytesI'm not even gonna need to be editingoff of those externals anymore. For photographers you'll be able to storeall of your RAW images directly on here, you won't have to editfrom separate drives. And I cannot wait to test out a Sidecar.Since I've been holding offon updating to Catalina. For Final Cut, specifically,I'm excited about using that when I travelbecause I'll be ableto have all of my filesand use that as a file browser, and I can just be focusingon doing most of my editingand color correction, directly on the MacBook.Another pretty impressivething is they've managedto make the price of thiscomputer the same priceas the 15-inch MacBooks. So you'll be able to get one of thesestarting at 2,399 as the base model, and the nine core is 2,799.Which is pretty impressiveif you think about it.So basically they'retaking this new 16-inchand replacing the 15-inch Pro modeland still managing tokeep it the same price.Well guys, this was just a first lookat the new MacBook Pro.I am really excitedbecause my entire liferevolves around video editing, production and being on the go.So being able to just have this device, this is really going to change everything.Obviously, the 15-inch MacBookPro that I had previouslywas beyond incredible.I've edited so many videos on that thing. And now just with the increased speedand the amount that I am traveling,I will be able to have amuch faster turnaround time.I'll be doing some furthertesting and video editingand really pushing thisthing to the limits. But, for now, I have to hop on a planeand I'm gonna take this footage, that I've shot right now,and I'm going to editthis video for you guys.(gentle upbeat music)So it's time to transferfootage for the first timeonto the new MacBook Pro.So I've been shootingfor the Atomos Ninjas, and these all record externallyto solid-state drives. So we'll just plug this in,and we're gonna transferour first bit of datato the new MacBook.(gentle music)Eating and editing is a true talent.I like to call this eaterting.(upbeat music)Just landed. This is basically a less than24-hour turnaround time video.I've been editing allday, we shot all day.Now I'm gonna get some dinner. We're are in an entirely different state.I'm actually in Nashvilleto go to on \"Good MorningAmerica\" this week,so that's super exciting. But of course, the editing never stops.I'm so close to finishing this video.I just honestly, cannot believehow fast this computer is.It is so fast even compared tomy previous gen 15-inch MacBook, which is completely spec'd out.Back to editing, I'llsee you guys in a second.(upbeat music)Oh man, my keyboard is greasy. It's cold. (groans)And here's my final edit.I am officially exhausted.I'm not even sure how longthis consecutively took mebecause I have beenediting so sporadicallythroughout this trip. But the video is done and theone thing that I did notice,is because this has increased cooling, they have all new fan architectureand I definitely notice a difference.Because I edit a lot with myMacBook sitting on my lap,and normally you can tell ifthe computer starts getting hotthe fans will start spinning up,and the processors will startslowing down a little bit.But this time I wasediting a lot in the car, with the laptop on my lapand it stayed significantlycooler than my previous gen.Definitely looking forwardto testing this out more.I was going to shoot moreof a recap for you guys, but basically I'm lovingit so far, it's super fast.I look forward to testing this out more,so let me know if there'sanything specificallyyou guys would likefor me to test on here.If you have any questionsbe sure to ask me themin the comments below andI will try to answer somein the next video. In the meantime, me andthis laptop, and my AirPods,we're going to bed.See you soon internet.(gentle music)\n"
