The Art of Pairing Unlikely Flavors: A Tasty Experiment with Ramen Noodles and Ice Cream
As I sat down to create this unique dish, I couldn't help but feel a sense of excitement and trepidation. The idea of pairing ramen noodles with ice cream seemed like a novelty, one that could either work wonders or leave me feeling disappointed. But as I began to assemble the ingredients, I realized that this was going to be a fun experiment.
I started by taking my trusty hamburger spatula and carefully prying open two halves of a package of ramen noodles. The result was surprisingly neat, with two separate halves that looked like they belonged in a perfectly styled photo shoot. Next, I reached for the creamy component of our dish - either tofu or cream cheese - and carefully scooped out a generous amount. This would be the base layer of our creation, providing a smooth and silky texture to balance out the crunchy elements.
As I added the noodles to my plate, I couldn't help but feel a sense of pride at the process so far. The addition of the noodles had taken on a life of their own, and I was eager to see how they would hold up in this new context. Now, all that remained was to add a touch of flavor to really bring everything together. In came the chicken seasoning, adding a welcome depth and complexity to the dish.
One of the most interesting aspects of this pairing is just how quickly our minds adapt to new flavors and textures. At first, there's an initial hesitation - perhaps even a bit of discomfort - before our taste buds start to adjust and begin to appreciate the harmony between the two seemingly disparate elements. It's fascinating, really, to think about just how much our brains can rewire in response to new sensory experiences.
But for now, let's focus on enjoying this tasty treat! As I took my first bite, I was surprised by just how well everything came together. The crunch of the noodles provided a delightful textural contrast to the smooth creaminess, while the seasoning added just enough depth without overpowering the delicate flavor of the ice cream.
The Samyang version of our ramen pops is perhaps one of the most surprising discoveries in this series. With its smoky, spicy flavor and crunchy texture, it adds a level of complexity that elevates the dish from mere novelty to genuine culinary masterpiece. And yet, despite the bold flavors at play here, I still found myself enjoying the simplicity of the original recipe.
And speaking of which, let's not forget about the chocolate-dipped version! Who wouldn't love a crunchy ice cream cone coated in rich, velvety chocolate? This treat is sure to satisfy any sweet tooth or satisfy anyone looking for a fun twist on the usual dessert.
One of the most interesting things about this recipe - and indeed one of the main reasons I wanted to try it out in the first place - was its surprising effectiveness as a snack. Ramen noodles, often relegated to purely utilitarian status in our kitchens, have been transformed into a tasty little morsel that can be enjoyed on its own or paired with other ingredients for added flavor and interest.
Of course, no discussion of this recipe would be complete without mentioning the most important ingredient of all: the magic shell. This is where things get really interesting - take some white chocolate, mix it with a bit of cream to create a smooth, glossy texture, and voila! You've got yourself a crunchy, sweet treat that's sure to delight even the most discerning palates.
And now, let's not forget about the presentation. I chose to coat my ramen pops in crushed-up ramen noodles for an added textural element and pop of color, but feel free to get creative here - whether it's chocolate shavings or chopped nuts, there are countless ways to add some visual flair to your dish.
In the end, this recipe may seem simple enough to be dismissed as a gimmick, but trust me when I say that the combination of ramen noodles and ice cream is truly something special. Whether you're looking for a new twist on an old favorite or just want to experiment with some unexpected flavors, this recipe is sure to deliver.

And it's delicious, instead of, you know, the peanuts on your chocolate coating, you have ramen noodlesthat too sounds good. We've got salty, crunchychocolate, vanilla ice cream. So since I'm not in Japanor anywhere near it,I'm going to attempt torecreate that as well.So let us celebrate instantraw noodles and ice cream.Alrighty, let's go ahead and get started. To make our chocolateramen coated ice cream bar,we're going to need some chocolate.I'm going to be adaptingmy magic shell recipe, which I did years and years and years ago.If you don't know whatmagic shell is, it is magic.I remember eating it asa kid and I loved it.It's a chocolate syrup that you drizzle oncold ice cream, ice creamis usually always cold, but that's beside the point. What happens is when that chocolate syruptouches that cold surface, it solidifiescreating a shell and you can use a spoonand tap it and crack it.So you would get bits ofsolidified chocolate along withyour ice cream. It's wonderful.I love it. And you can make itat home with two ingredients, just chocolate and coconut oil.Three tablespoons of coconut oil.Now this is the big secret. Now we're going to popthis into the microwave, for 30 second intervals,I've found it usuallytakes about a minute totalto get the chocolate, to soften enoughand warm up enough, that itcan melt everything together.Do you smell your silicone spatulas?I do.I don't want my chocolateto taste like, you know, onions or whatever. So Ialways smell my spatula first. And if it smells likeonions or something savory,I use a different one. This one smells fine. And we're just going tomix this all together.Perfectly melted, beautiful magic shell.Still a little bit too warm.So we're going to let this coolfor about 10 minutes or so.We want this to be morearound room temperature. Now it's time to prep our ice cream.Get yourself a quart of vanilla ice cream, whatever brand you like.I use a bread knife to helpcut through the carton. The carton helps give theice cream some stabilityso that it's easier to cut.And then I use a sharp knifeto cut the ice cream itself. For the instant noodle sandwich, just cut a four inch square. And for your ice popscut any size you like, mine are about two inches by three inches. For the chocolate coated pops,I use some Popsicle sticks, insert them into the ice creamand then quickly put themright back into the freezer.A brick of instant noodles.Notice that there's a seam here.I'm going to take thislittle hamburger spatula, and we're going to pry thesetwo halves carefully apart, carefully crack it,Tada! Two halves.Working quickly, lookslike tofu or cream cheeseor something, doesn't it?Put that in there. And that, there. That looks amazing. Look at that.Oh my gosh. That looks incredible.Give it a good squinch, squinch.(upbeat music)Alrighty, here we go.Itadakimasu!(crunching sounds)It's actually great.I mean it, it's actually great. The ramen noodles, as youheard are very, very crunchy. They're plain. They don'ttaste like anything. They taste kind of like a saltine cracker, just a very plain flourybackdrop. Not at all salty. The star is really the ice cream. So if you've got some reallygreat quality ice cream, you've got yourself a fun little snack.I really like the crunch. The crunch factor here is wonderful. Now let's see what happens when we adda little bit of chicken flavoring to this, right there, right on the noodle.Alrighty, here we go.(shrieking sound)Wow.It's strange. But oddly kindof, kind of, kind of good.MhmmThe celery flavors kind of have me caughta little bit off guard, but I definitely like acombination of sweet and salty.Yes. The salt definitely works. Not sure about the chickenbuillon-y flavor --the salt definitely works.Let's try this. This is Samyang soup base. This is going to have alittle bit of spice in it.I'm excited about this one. All right. So we're going to putthat one right there.(crunching sounds)- That's pretty good too.The Samyang has more of a smoky flavor,a little bit of heat, but it has that similar MSGladen salty thing going onthat pairs nicely with the ice cream. It's very surprising and interesting. And kind of tasty. Oh my gosh.(laughs)This alone though is surprisingly good. That crunch of the rawnoodles with the ice creamis surprisingly good. And thenyou have this with it too. It's even more surprisingbecause it's salty and sweet. Is it a good pairing? Hmm.That could be questionable.By the time you finish theentire thing, you stillmight not have an answer, but you've eaten everything because you, your mind vacillates betweensalty, sweet, salty, sweet.Yeah.It's very interesting.Let's put it at that. Alrighty. Now let's finish thechocolate dipped version. We're going to take themagic shell we made earlier, dip this into our chocolate sauce, and then before themagic shell solidifies, quickly sprinkle with ourcrushed up ramen noodles. So immediately you'll see thatthe chocolate will solidify. It'll take on a matte finish. You of course can omit theramen noodles if you likeand just have beautiful kind of likeKlondike bars on a stick. Here is what the ramen pop looks like.Isn't that amazing?Look at that. Alrighty.Let's give this a taste. Here we go.Itadakimasu!(crunching sounds)Mmm!So delicious. Did you hear thecrunch of that magic shell? If you didn't hear it,let's hear it again.(crunching sounds)Mmm, mmm, mmm.So good!Great chocolatey flavor, great hard chocolate crunch. And the addition of the ramenon the outside gives it evenmore crunch and it's delicious.I would recommend trying itwith the crunchy ramen noodlesbecause it gives it a bigger crunch factorand it just is really good. Now Baby Star Ramen is seasoned. So the original version would I'd imaginebe even more saltier, whichI think would be welcomebecause we've got a lot of sugar here, but this is a great combination.Definitely make thechocolate coating, so simple,so easy to make, andso stinking delicious.(laughs)Alrighty, thanks so much for watchingand big thanks to HelloFreshfor sponsoring this video. If you'd like to tryHelloFresh out for yourself,go to hellofresh.com and use my codeEMMYMADE15 to receive 14 free meals, including free shipping. Thanks again for watching.I hope you enjoyed that one.I hope you learned something. Please share this video with your friends.Follow me on social media.Check out my website for aprintable version of this recipe, like this video subscribe. And I shall see you in the next one.Toodaloo!
