The RG 556 Handheld Gaming Console Review: A Powerhouse with Smooth Performance

We recently had the opportunity to test out the RG 556 handheld gaming console, and we were impressed by its powerful specs and smooth performance. Powered by a UniSo T820 chip, this device is equipped with an ARM S6 Nanom Octacore processor that boasts 8 A76 cores up to 2.7 GHz, three A76 cores up to 2.3 GHz, and four A55 cores up to 2.1 GHz. This powerful chip is paired with a quad-core Mali G57 GPU running at up to 850 MHz, providing excellent performance for demanding games.

The RG 556 also boasts an AMOLED display at 1080p, running at 60 Hz, which provides a crisp and vibrant visual experience. The device also features Hall-based analog sticks, switch-sized, but still feels comfortable in the hand. Additionally, the console comes with linear triggers around back, as well as some nice lighting effects on the analog sticks. We've been thoroughly enjoying our time with the RG 556, and we're excited to dive into its performance capabilities.

We first tested out the device's Android gaming capabilities, starting with a game of Minecraft Pocket Edition. The console performed admirably, with smooth frame rates and no lag or stuttering. The built-in controls worked seamlessly, without needing any mapping or setup. However, as we progressed to more demanding games, such as Gin In Impact, we encountered some limitations. Specifically, the built-in controller didn't work out of the box, requiring the use of an on-screen key mapper.

Fortunately, enabling the on-screen mapper allowed us to customize the controls to our liking, with options for loading custom profiles or setting up bespoke button layouts. With the Gin In Impact profile loaded, we were able to play the game at high speed, with medium settings yielding a smooth 30 FPS experience. While going up to 60 FPS would be ideal, the console's performance was still impressive, especially considering its relatively affordable price point.

Another notable feature of the RG 556 is its ability to run PSP games with ease. We tested out the game "God of War" using the PPSSPP 4X version, and were pleased to find that it ran flawlessly at high speed. However, we did need to drop down to 3x resolution to alleviate some minor frame rate drops.

In conclusion, the RG 556 handheld gaming console is a powerhouse with impressive performance capabilities. Its powerful specs, combined with its comfortable design and feature-rich features, make it an attractive option for gamers on-the-go. While there are some limitations to be aware of, particularly when it comes to controller support, we're confident that this device will provide hours of entertainment for those who choose to invest in it.

The RG 556 is available now, with links to purchase provided in the description below. And as a special offer, new customers can take advantage of discounts ranging from $9 off $30 purchases to 25% off $100 purchases, using promo codes ETA9, ETA5, and ETA25 respectively. Additionally, the device's manufacturer is currently running a back-to-school sale, offering up to 80% off on select titles – so be sure to check that out as well.

Overall, we're impressed by what the RG 556 has to offer, and we're confident that it will provide hours of fun for gamers who choose to invest in this device.

"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enhey what's going on everybody it's ETA Prime back here again today we're going to be taking a look at a few awesome products that AliExpress was kind enough to send over for review now throughout the year I do pick up a lot of stuff from AliExpress you've probably seen my Mini PC videos little gaming PCs and things like that but they've got so much more to offer over on their website from Electronics household goods clothing you name it they've got it and their slogan is better choice better price and right now AliExpress is running their back to school sale you can get up to 80% off if you're interested in checking out what they've got I'll leave some links to their website down below and right now if you use code et9 you can get $9 off your purchase over $30 or if you use code eta2 you can get $25 off your $100 purchase but like I mentioned they did send a few products over to take a look at so let's go ahead and jump right into it first on the list we've got the M25 and if you haven't noticed by now this has taken a lot of cues from the PlayStation portal I've always been a bigan of the ds5 controller I think it's very comfortable we've got them on the side here 4.3 in display right there in the middle dual analog sticks and it looks like around back here we've got a rear firing speaker overall I know the design might look a little Oddball to some people but it's actually a really comfortable handheld to hang on to and this isn't running Android or anything like that it's actually running emu elect and we've got access to a lot of different emulators now even though we've got like N64 and PSP here doesn't mean that everything's going to run it full speed but there's still thousands of games that will run really well on this little machine this is powered by a quad core CPU and up top here we've got USB type-c for power input micro SD card slot 3.5 mm audio jack our power button and a mini HDMI port so you can go out to a larger display like I mentioned this is running Linux we've actually got emu El installed on this and it's actually a pretty smooth experience now emu elect has been around for a little while now it's very well optimized for these lower devices and just scrolling through here we've got Super Nintendo Game Boy Advance game boy PC engine there's Dreamcast PSP Playstation 1 lots of different emulators that we can run on this system and if we press the start button over here while we're in emu El it'll bring us into our settings menu there's actually not much that we can change here there's actually a lot hidden it's kind of in Kiosk mode right now but this kind of keeps it safe for people so they don't mess up their settings and the first thing I want to test out here is some Game Boy Advance emulator we're going with Sonic Advance 2 and our volume buttons are actually up here at the top pressing start and select at the same time will bring us into our menu and from here we can save load exit game we can also change the aspect ratio from 16 by9 which the screen is natively running at 16x9 or 4x3 with the CPU they opted to use here you're going to be able to emulate these lower-end systems no problem at all I think where the issue will arise is the higher end stuff like a harder to emulate PSP dream cast in N64 games but yeah for something like Game Boy Advance game boy you want to do some PlayStation 1 which we've got going right now it's going to run really well and I do think that this is a pretty comfortable handheld again I've always been a big fan of the PlayStation controllers especially the ds5 and this just kind of fits right in your palm moving up to some Dreamcast emulation it's definitely not perfect but there are going to be games that run pretty decently here we've got Crazy Taxi 2 and I do notice some audio issues other than than that I mean the game is pretty smooth and it would be nice if we had some overthe a updates for this that way they could clean up all of that stuff but unfortunately when an update is available you will have to reflash those manuals next on the list we're going to be taking a look at the rg28 XX this has been one of the most exciting little handhelds that's released in a long time this is something I've personally been having a lot of fun with and it's really coming down to the form factor size and Chip set they opted to use here with the RG 28x X this thing might be small but it's actually packing quite a bit of power so obviously we're working with a pretty small device it's got a 2.8 in display but I really do like the size here I think this is perfect for putting in your pocket now I wouldn't make this my main device but this is a great carry around travel device that's totally capable of playing thousands and thousands of retro games up top here we've got our shoulders and triggers obviously with something this small we're not going to get linear triggers and we do kind of have to reach over for the those shoulder buttons but in reality with a lot of the games we're going to be playing on this we didn't need extra shoulder buttons when it comes to the specs of the RG 28xx this is using the allwinner H700 and we've seen this in several of their newer handheld devices like the RG 35xx and so on and so on it's actually a good performer it's a quadcore a53 s so up to 1.5 GHz it's got a Mali g31 mp2 GPU 1 GB of LP DDR 4 RAM and the base model does come included with a 64 GB micro SD card and for my use I haven't had to use any more storage than that but you can opt pick one up with a 128 GB card for a little extra we've got a 2.83 IPS display it is fully laminated with a resolution of 640x480 single front-facing mono speaker a 3100 Mah hour battery and they're claiming up to 8 hours of battery life out of this and this is running their proprietary Linux that they've been using on their newer smaller RG handhelds so first up we've got some Super Nintendo one of my favorite games haani if you've never played it definitely try it out it's a lot of fun I'm using the Standalone emulator we have built into this handheld and the reason I'm using this instead of retro Arch is just to show you the settings that we have here so with most of these stalon pressing that menu button up top will obviously bring us into the menu we can exit we can save we can load and with most of these emulators we'll have a video display effect right now we're in HD but we can also add some scan lines we've got two different scan line options go to fast mode do Matrix and right back to HD so overall for an ultra portable Retro Gaming device I do love what they've come up with here but I kind of wish they would have added a little lanyard latch right here that way we could use a lanyard with this and over the last few years we've seen some micro handheld devices hit the market most of those in my opinion are kind of novelty this is teetering on the really small side but I don't think it's a novel product it performs really well and you can fit this in your pocket basically carry it anywhere with you and play your favorite games on the go and like I mentioned at the beginning of the video I wouldn't make this my main handheld but this is kind of a secondary unit I can carry with me everywhere and finally here we've got the RG 556 now this thing is coming in with a pretty powerful CPU when you compared to the others we've taking a look at in this video because this new device is powered by the uniso t820 so it's a 6 nanom 8 core chip and we've got a maximum clock up to 2.7 GHz along with a quad core Mali g57 GPU at up to 850 MHz along with this more powerful chip we've also got an AMOLED display at 1080p running at 60 HZ and it does look absolutely beautiful actually huge fan of what they've done here now with this we do get Hall based analog sticks they're switch size so if you're not into those you definitely won't like these but they do work out really well we've also got linear triggers around back and as you can see we do have some lighting around those analog sticks so far I've actually been having a really good time with the RG 556 and with this it is powered by that uniso t820 this is one that we haven't tested on the channel yet it's a 6 nanom octacore arm s so we've got one a76 core up to 2.7 GHz three a76 cores up to 2.3 and four a55 cores up to 2.1 this is paired up with a quad core Mali g57 G CPU running it up to 850 MHz 8 GB of LP DDR 4X Ram 128 GB of ufs 2.2 internal storage plus we've got a Micro SD card slot for easily expanding that storage a 5.48 in AMOLED display at 1080p running at 60 HZ 402 pixels per inch and it's 102 srgb so it's just a bit oversaturated personally really like this screen they chose built-in 5 GHz Wi-Fi Bluetooth 5.0 dual stereo speakers 5500 mAh battery and out of the box this is running Android 13 and we do have OTA updates so far operating system has been super smooth here with that t820 so haven't run into any issues we've got 8 gigs of RAM which is more than enough and the first thing I wanted to test here were a couple Android games because after all we are using an Android device here's Minecraft Pocket Edition basically this will run on anything now with this I didn't have to turn any of the chunks down or anything like that I mean we're seeing some good performance buil-in controls worked right out of the box didn't have to do any mapping or anything like that but of course there are harder to run games and there's games on the market that just don't support native controllers on Android like ginin impact okay so as you can see built-in controls aren't going to work you'd have to use the touchcreen if you didn't have an onscreen key mapper so what we can do here is enable the onscreen mapper we can totally customize all of these onscreen buttons or you can load a custom profile like the ginch and impact profile which should put everything in a correct place for you once this is enabled we've got the built-in controller working with ginin impact and right now we are at medium settings 30 FPS that's kind of The Sweet Spot you could run this at very low 60 if you wanted to but uh with those medium settings we still have a little bit of fidelity here and it actually works out quite well on this device I was pretty surprised at how good it's running right now now at medium settings now of course going up to 60 FPS totally maxed out would be nice but you really need a powerful chip for that PSP Works flawlessly on this device right now I'm using the stain alone version of PPSSPP 4X resolution with everything that I've tested except for two games so far ran at full speed with that Vulcan back in when it comes to the two games I'm talking about it's really the God of War series I had to drop it down to 3x to alleviate any kind of drop frames here when it comes down to it this device is awesome for PSP I mean it definitely feels great in the hand we've got a beautiful 1080p display we can upscale these games it just works out great for these and I really do like the performance the t820 is putting out so far definitely one of the more powerful devices from Amber neck so far and the RG 556 is definitely a super comfortable handheld but that's going to wrap it up for this one really appreciate you watching if you're interested in picking up any of these products I'll leave links for everything in the description and remember you can get $9 off your $30 purchase using Code ETA 9 15 off your $60 purchase using eta5 or 25 off your $100 purchase using ETA 25 and keep in mind they've also got their back to school sale going right now with up to 80% off but that's it for this one like always thanks for watchinghey what's going on everybody it's ETA Prime back here again today we're going to be taking a look at a few awesome products that AliExpress was kind enough to send over for review now throughout the year I do
