The latest redesign of the Honda Civic we got a few examples from Honda to try out here at our track we got a Civic SI Coupe an EX Sedan and the car with probably the biggest changes the Honda Civic Hybrid what makes the Civic Hybrid different is the battery capacity now it relies on a lithium ion battery pack that battery pack is smaller lighter and also has more capacity almost three times as much as it did before that means the Civic Hybrid it could rely on the electric motor more of the time and get better fuel economy but the Civic Hybrid is the only one with powertrain changes the Civic SII now is a completely different motor too no longer is the 2 L super high revving engine that we enjoyed before now it's a 2.4 L motor that motor well it doesn't rev as high but it's still a great powertrain great stick shift shifts really nicely revs very high a lot of fun to drive now the mainstream Civics probably have the least amount of changes they still have a 5-speed automa transmission in a world of six-speed automatics that's really not keeping up and the engine it's still a 1.8 it's still 140 horsepower it's received some changes but the competition is getting Fierce now we're not going to formally test this car we buy every car that we test so let's go shopping we'll get the normal Civic sedan $39 M per gallon that's pretty good we'll build one and starting price $158 not bad we'll click on oh with destination at $165 let's take a look at what that gets you it's more interesting to see what it doesn't get you does not get you air conditioning does not get you a radio and actually the options of a radio or air conditioning aren't even available in Monda DX so we'll move up to the LX um well that's instantly getting up to $186 with a manual transmission but also there's a lot of things not there so we're missing Bluetooth to get that you need to get an ex and that got us $21255 so for a cheap car it's pretty expensive so while the Honda Civic has a low based price Honda's pulled a bit of a bait and switch here because once you equip it with common options it gets priced in the low 20s at that price you could buy a midsize sedan we'll be testing a few versions of the Honda Civic here at the track we'll let you know how it Stacks up
