"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enshow and tell adam's loft take onei'm kidding i'm only doing one takegreetings friends adam savage here in mycave with ashow and tell that is showing youa different part of the cave yeahnormally we spend most of our timehere in the shop and this is a veryrefinedspace i spend lots of timeadjusting and modifying andlike i said refining so that everythingthat i needis where i need it when i need it in themost intuitive way possibleand then there's this area now thiswell that's my mold making area but outhereis all my display area i don't want topan too fast i don't want to make anyonesick but let's umwe'll just we'll walk through thisbecause it's germaine to the discussionwe're havingsome props and some pieces and you knowthis is where i keep like the thingsthat i madeand things that i've collected and i getto see them all up closeand they're awesome and this is this iswhere i get inspired this is thecacophony uh the visual cacophonythat gets my juices going uh hello babyum andthere's uh well there's some otherspaces in the shop there'sthe bathroom and then here is the metalworking areayeah and that is in need of some helpthat's a wazer water cutter that wellwe're getting that workinguh this is sort of also in progressand my office over there but there is apart of the shopthat you all have never seenand some of you've been asking about itand it islet's see oh uh no tour of the displayspace would be repletewithout one of the most beautifulobjects in my entire collection which isthis incredible full-sizeskull of sue yeahshe's a mix umand obviously the visual cacophonyextends to the ceilingand we can see i've got all thesehelmets oh big baby ummythbusters junior oh here's a cool onethat is a posterpainted by the artist that made all theconey island sideshow posters becauseback in the early aughts um i was kingneptuneof the coney island mermaid parade yespatty darbinvillesweet lady darbinville she wasdelightful umshe and i rode in a carriage through uhthrough uh coney island to open thebeach the first day of the summeryeah that was stunning and i got that uhyeah the most idealized portrait of meever made big square chest i'm nevergonna have one of thoseum no but as i said the visual cacophonyextends to the ceilingand above that ceiling well that is whatyou have never seenand we're going there now so uh when ifirst moved into this space there wasjust a hole in the lofti bought some attic stairsand uh here we go we're gonna head upinto thisi will tell you these stairs this loftit's not for the faint of heart umyou can get hurt just thinking about ithold on i gotta use both hands here fora secondokay this ladder is not for the faint ofheartum in fact uh you know some some folksuh some folks just can't stand moving upand down this ladder and that's totallyfine it is a umyou know it's a thing so here we areuh we've just passed the threshold intothe loftand uh you can see aza helis built thislovely banister for me so that iwouldn't fall into the holeum when you're first up hereit's crazy um also notenote the height of the pipes here yeahthese are allthese are all head bangers and i havelots of marks across my headuh from being up here but let uslet's start let's see all right umthis over here used to be the cameraarea that used to be where i stored allmy production camera equipmentum mostly personal but you know i usedit professionallyum now it's storing some big chunks offoamwe're still figuring out where those gooh rightthe reason you are seeing the loft nowis because i can actually move aroundthe loft i know it doesn't quite looklike it just yet butwe've done a huge amount of work here inthe last few weeksand i actually had a an epiphany aboutwhat this space is forbecause it used to be that it used to bethat i just put everything i didn't havea place for up hereand that became way too much of afight uhit's you know stuff compoundsyou've got to sort it you've got to bemerciless about what you're throwingawayand so i was starting to do that andthen i was realizing wait a minute ihave a storage space where i have abunch of clothing racksand all the costumes are over there it'stime to get every last costume that doesnot need to be here in the buildingit's time to get every last costume thatdoesn't need to be here in the buildingover to storage so i did that and thatcleared up a bunch of space and anotherloft which we're going to go look at ina minuteum and it also cleared a bunch out ofhere and then i realized whatbelongs up in this loft not weird stuffthat idon't necessarily need access to thatcan all go to the deeper storage spacethis loft is now only for art materialsand projects that i am currently workingonso that's why we swapped out the cameradepartmentfor foam because foam is one of thedisposablematerials that i utilize here umwe also have things like when i made myhellboy glove i ended up with a bunch ofmolds so there's all the hellboy moldshere's uhhellboy arduino uh there's some uhinterviews and talks andother stuff uh let's see plumbing partsi mean a lot of this is superunorganized right nowbut um as far as uncompleted projects gothe probably the greatest uncompletedproject in my life so faris a major kong survival kit from drstrangelovei completed one of them and that onei'm very proud of and it's super highfidelity it wascurated into a show at the museum of themoving image in new york called walkersand uh my piece is in the catalog it'slovely butthat wasn't the end of that project forme i wantedi wanted to make an addition of them soherethis here is all the material supportfor an addition of uh 20kong survival kits which i still plan tofinish at some point20. yeah and there's a lot of movingparts to it this is a huge project andwhen i'm allfinished i'll probably write a bookseriously i'll probably write a littlemonograph about putting that proptogetherand this is a great place for it to liveit's lived here now for about three anda half yearsand it gives us regular access to it andthat gave me the idea to kind ofhave some of the active projects getsome real space over herehere is another one umyeah like i said all right sothis shelf here ismostly well these three shelves here areallspace hardware they're all parts andpieces of my spacesuit costumes umi was looking at making a boeingstarliner suit and i probably still willsomedayuh and i wanted to know just how whatthe blue nomex looked like so here'ssome blue nomex it's gotstuff like that it's got some gold foilit's got some cooling suits it's gotsome extra visors i've got a couple ofmercury visors up there that haven'tbeen cut out umi'm always sort of working on differentparts and pieces of my spacesuitcollectionthis is going to end up being therepository for all that which is greati have big plans to get stuff up herethis framenot sure what to do with it okay let'smove on in umperhaps the biggest storage item up hereis uh hold onthere we go this it's all clothand we're still working on it but whatwhat we've got here so faris we've got black fabrics we've gotsome colored fabrics we've got somewhite fabrics we've got some auto carpetwe got some sail clothwe got some findings and belts andbuckles and leather stuff down therewe've got some kanekalon hairwhich strikes me as it belongs withcloth for some reason we've got umuh the open cell foam we've got somebroadcloth the fur over here we've gotthe leather over here and down on thebottomwe have all the different open cell foamumand again i can't even tell you howgreat it is to haveall of this out here like this it makesworking oncloth-based or fabric-based sewingprojectsso much easier moving onthis is still somewhat unformed i've gotsome oldmythbuster prop hardware over herelots of fans i have several cases ofduct tape left over from mythbustersduct tape specialsum wheels land cruiser stuffyou know when you have an old car youend up with buckets and buckets andbuckets ofof things that support that habithobby sorry did i say habitmy smoke machines are here opaqueprotector i know this looks like abarely concealed chaos or barelycontrolled chaosand that's kind of because that's whatit is we we chip awaywe chip away we chip away and slowly thespace becomes morespacious um here's myunbuilt english wheel and planishinghammer orstill to be built english wheel andplanishing hammeryeah um someday somedayi'm just i just need a bigger shop ineed a i need a full metal working areaoh right here are some shoes some moonbootssome roller skates for mythbuster daysmy welliesuh my sorrells uh these are some of theoriginal boots i wore on mythbusters inthe early days i never threw a pair outum yeah these are for making the prisonshoes from face offprop i wanted to do some day some firebootsmore more moon shoes yeah a aking's ransom of boots and shoes andfootwear and it's great i still dip intothis from time to timeall right let's see here what else wegot oh my goddoes anyone need a bunch of test tubesbecause i have way too manyum all right let's see herethis is all savage merchandising stuffthings like my tape measures edc bagscustom all of the prototypes i storehereum merchthere's more merch over here jesus ihave so many jamie bobbleheadsand some adam bobbleheads uhlet's see signed posters laser-cut kitsuh every time every year on mythbustersi made crew giftsi think one of the years i made tacticalbags with the mythbusters logo on them ithink that was like2006 2005. and uhi always made extras and kept a coupleout just for myselfuh let's see over there is all postersthat's the rock i plan to pull excaliburfrom somedayum yeah i know you're asking about iknow you want to know about that guy andiit's still going to be a while uhyeah so here let's i'm going to put youon wide so you can see this whole spaceso like i said we've got savagemerchandising my bag company andprototypes and designs and tape measuresand things like that go over herewe've got some bobble heads we've gotsome collectibles some hats when peoplecome i like to give them gifts i've gotsomesome of the nice boxes i don't want tothrow away piecesof the unbuilt iron man's guitar casesposters are way back thereuh a giant cardboard rhino i i don'tknow why i have a giant cardboard rhinoit's it's it's got to move on it's gotto get out of here umoh rigging oh yeah look at that all fourof these boxes containmy entire collection of rigging hardwareevery carabiner every rope everyclimbing rope every harnessum yeah i could cause real trouble withthis kit it'sa very very complete rigging kit from 30years of doing thatand then uh yeah we've got thethe fabric the leatheryeah and you can see so all of thisbeing open is like brand new it used tobethat this was literally like a foot ofwalking space and you would likeyou literally felt like you were walkinglike this as you move through the spaceoh and it would be more like this likedunk and hit your headum so this is a work in progress i'mshowing you anuncompleted space so you can kind ofget a taste for the fact that this wholeplace is just a work in fluxuh and then we come back out and i thinkthis is one of the reasons people findthis terrifying because of that likeyou're just looking downyeah you're looking down the throat ofthe rest of your lifeuh andthe thing you don't know about me isthat i have lived in spaces withrickety steep loft stairs since i was 24uh and so walking up and down stairs idon't like bounce underneath youit's totally fine for me it doesn'tbother me one bit umthere you go it's been 10 years i'vebeen in this space and you guys havenever seen up in the loftnow you have um i think we could doanother show and tellin a few months oh there's maggieuh i'm going to say hi to my dog thankyou guys for joining me for this showand tell andi will see you later but waiti got excited about my maggie cominghome coming back to the shopand i totally forgot about somethinghere she is hello sweetiemm-hmm hi noodle say hi to everybodymm-hmm she just went to funston and hada lot of fun running aroundmm-hmm yeah oh you were a beautiful girlgood girl umthere is where we just were that is aloft in which wewere just but it's not the only loft inthis spaceoh no there's anotherum we've covered that this is my officeuh where i do my you know quiet zoomwork and all of that stuffbut what's that that is another loftlet's go if you thought the first stairswere scarywait till you see theseall rightokay here we are and thisthis is the camera department this iswhere i keep all of mycamera gear and there's none in hereright now or effectivelynone um because uh it's out on loan to afriendthat's a terrible noise that's my fridgecoughing up blood umbut this loft it's uh this isagain this is all a work in progresslike we haven't yet started to fill thiswe've got some stuff here we've got somestuff here i want to get it allover there i want to get it all overhere on the shelf and then there's thisloftuh and this is i had to cut this doorin here to get through here um this iswhere the bear costume isand again he needs work too i got torebuild his headum there's our big fat orange guy fromuh mythbusters that i made and a gorillasuit with dead mouse headi get tired just looking at how what tomove aroundum however when i see big open spaceslike this it makes me feel very goodbecause i know i can consolidateand get stuff locked down andit feels like i'm using a whip and achairto tame the lion of the stuff that ihaveyeah that's the analogy all right sowe're gonna here's that oh yeah youwanna see what it looks like to go downoh yeahstay therethere you go now you have seen all ofthe loftsin my spacei think we might revisit this again in afew months welike i said it's a work in progress sointhree or four months this shouldactually look substantively differentup there slowly but surelyslowly but surely it is a uh it's a longgame that's the trickit's a long game oh my god i can't waitfor a haircut thank you guys for joiningme for this show and telli will see you next time\n"
