Mr. Robot's Carly Chaikin Is Paranoid About Being Hacked

**The Art of Portraying Darlene Alderson**

When it comes to playing complex and dynamic characters like Darlene Alderson, it's essential to understand what draws actors to such roles. For Rami Malek, who plays the iconic role of Elliot Alderson, his journey into playing Darlene was sparked by reading the pilot script. Despite having only a few lines in the initial episode, Malek felt an instant connection with the character and knew he had to be a part of the show. He recalls that after reading the pilot, he said, "I don't care who I play, I just want to be a part of this and this story." This sentiment reflects the passion and dedication required to bring such intricate characters to life.

**The Cast's Bonding Experience**

One of the most remarkable aspects of Mr. Robot is its tight-knit cast dynamic. Malek, along with his co-stars Christian Slater, Porsha Ramy, and others, have formed a strong bond that transcends their professional relationship. They often joke around on set, making light of even the most serious scenes. This camaraderie has been attributed to the show's dark yet engaging subject matter, which allows for an environment where characters can be vulnerable and genuine with one another. Malek notes, "We're like family... We really are." This sense of trust and rapport enables the actors to create a more authentic performance, as they feel comfortable with each other's company.

**The Dark Side of Technology**

As fans of Mr. Robot, it's no surprise that Rami Malek has adopted habits inspired by his character. He admits to being extremely cautious about sharing personal information online, citing his experience with the show as a reason for this newfound paranoia. Before joining the cast, Malek recalls not leaving his computer open, and even now, he finds himself closing others' laptops if they leave them unattended due to an OCD-like behavior. This attention to detail reflects Darlene's analytical mind and the show's exploration of the dark side of technology.

**Mobile Gaming: A Lesson in Blind Trust**

Malek's love for mobile gaming, particularly Pokémon Go, has become a humorous aspect of his personality. When asked about his experience with the game, he expressed amazement at how people willingly hand over their personal information to participate. He tweets about the issue, highlighting the dangers of blindly trusting others and surrendering one's data without caution. This commentary reflects Darlene's skeptical nature and Elliot's struggles with trust in his relationships. Malek ponders, "How would F Society or Don hack or use Pokémon go to accomplish their mission?" His musings serve as a thought-provoking commentary on the ease with which technology can be manipulated.

**Emotional Resonance**

Malek's favorite scene from Season 2 is that of Elliot discovering he is Mr. Robot, an emotionally charged moment that resonated deeply with him. He notes that this scene connected on multiple levels, both as an actor and personally. Similarly, his co-star Christian Slater recalls a pivotal scene in Season 1 where the hacking sequence takes place, followed by the shocking revelation that Mr. Robot is Elliot's father. Slater finds this scene to be particularly emotional due to the complex emotions it evokes.

**The Power of Human Connection**

For Rami Malek and the cast of Mr. Robot, there's no greater joy than seeing their characters connect on an emotional level. When asked about his favorite scene between Darlene and Elliott, he conveys that these moments are what truly impact him as an actor. Their relationship is a testament to the power of human connection, even in the darkest of times. As Malek notes, "Anything between those two characters... means the most." This sentiment underscores the show's exploration of complex relationships and the resilience of the human spirit.

**Looking Ahead**

As the cast prepares for their Emmy nominations, Rami Malek reflects on the significance of Mr. Robot as a representation of his generation. He acknowledges that it's heartening to see shows like Mr. Robot receiving widespread recognition, paving the way for more stories from within this age group. As he concludes, "It's good for like the millennial generation to like see that a show can like get to the Big Wigs or like the other enies." With Mr. Robot, Rami Malek has cemented his place as an exceptional actor, and his dedication to Darlene Alderson is a testament to the power of complex characters in storytelling.
