I recently had the opportunity to give my old entryway table a fresh new look by spray painting it and adding some new decorative pieces. I was excited to try out the Chalkboard Paint from Rust-Oleum, which I had previously used on other furniture pieces with great success.
Before starting the project, I made sure to take everything off of the table, including the hardware. I wanted to give the entire piece a thorough makeover, and that meant removing all of the old hardware. This was actually one of the easiest parts of the process, as I didn't have to worry about sanding or preparing the surface in any way. The spray paint can be used on just about anything, even if it's already been painted, so I was able to get started right away.
I began by painting the mirror first, and then moved on to the desk and finally the drawers. Each part of the process took a full day, but I didn't mind at all. The spray paint applied quickly and easily, and I was happy with the way it turned out from the very beginning. The satin ivory color is exactly what I had imagined, and I couldn't be more pleased.
I used the same technique for all three parts of the table - just spraying the paint on in stages, waiting for each coat to dry before moving on to the next one. This took a bit longer than I expected, but it was definitely worth it in the end. The drawers, in particular, took a full day to complete because they were the most complex part of the process.
I did have to use some patience and attention to detail when painting, as the color had to be just right. I didn't want any uneven spots or streaks, so I made sure to apply each coat carefully and let it dry completely before moving on. This took a bit longer than expected, but it was worth it in the end.
Once the paint was fully dry, I began reattaching the hardware. I had actually kept some of the original hardware, as well as new pieces that matched the style and color of the table. The hardware wasn't difficult to apply - just a simple matter of screwing them back into place. However, this was probably the easiest part of the entire process.
I also decided to add some decorative touches to the table, including a gorgeous mirror that I had actually previously hauled from the Home Goods store myself for just $12! I used painters tape to secure it to the back, as it's quite light and wouldn't hold its own against the weight of other decorations. If you're planning on hanging something over a mirror like this in the future, make sure to use a sturdier type of tape - perhaps duct tape or something similar.
I had all of my materials ready to go before starting the project, including the spray paint, new decorative pieces, and hardware. The total cost was around $20-$30, depending on how much of each piece I ended up using. In comparison, a brand new entryway table can easily cost upwards of $100 or more!
One thing that surprised me about this project is just how easy it was to get started. I had all of my materials ready and knew exactly what I wanted to do from the very beginning. The spray paint applied quickly and easily, and I was happy with the way it turned out from the very start.
Now that the table is complete, I'm excited to move on to decorating the rest of my entryway area. I've actually had all of these Decor pieces in different places throughout my old house because they work differently in my new house as you can tell so now I'm going to go ahead and hang up my mirror and finish putting everything together.
To decorate the table, I plan on adding a few more touches, including some topiaries that will sit on either side of it. This is something I've been wanting to do for a while now, but haven't had the chance yet. It's going to be a fun project, and I'm excited to see how everything comes together.
I hope you guys enjoyed my new entryway table makeover! I love how it turned out and couldn't believe I basically used the same exact products I had before gave it a face lift all I really did was buy spray paint a couple of new Decor pieces and that was it.
