Alcatel 1C and 1X Hands-on - Budget as budget gets

CES 2019: Alcatel's Latest Phone Refresh

As we arrived at the Alcatel booth at CES 2019, it was clear that the company had some exciting new phones to showcase. The first phone they wanted to introduce was the Alcatel One See in the Alcatel 1X. This is a refreshed version of a phone that's familiar to many, and the company is updating it for 2019 with some improvements.

The Alcatel 1C, which we'll be discussing later, is one of the two new phones being shown off at the booth. It's designed as the starter version of this phone line, and it runs on Android 8.1 Oreo Go Edition. This means that it's using a slightly easier version of Oreo that's optimized for lower-end processors. The phone comes with just one gigabyte of RAM, which is a relatively low amount of memory.

One of the most notable features of the Alcatel 1C is its 3G-only connectivity. This means that it's not capable of connecting to faster 4G networks, and it will only be able to access data through 3G connections. However, this also makes it an attractive option for emerging markets where 3G coverage is still relatively widespread. As long as you have a 3G signal, you can still use the phone to browse the web, check email, and take photos.

In terms of hardware, the Alcatel 1C has a 5-inch display with an 18:9 aspect ratio. This is a common screen size for budget phones, and it's designed to provide a good viewing experience without breaking the bank. The phone also comes with a 5-megapixel camera on the back, which is relatively low-resolution but still capable of taking decent photos in bright conditions. Additionally, the Alcatel 1C features a headphone jack, which can be a welcome addition for those who prefer to listen to music through wired headphones.

The Alcatel One X, on the other hand, is the higher-end model that's being showcased at the booth. It comes with a larger 5.5-inch display also featuring an 18:9 aspect ratio, and it runs on the full version of Android 8.1 Oreo. This means that it has access to all the features and apps available on the latest version of Android, without the need for any workarounds or compromises.

One of the standout features of the Alcatel One X is its camera system. It's equipped with what feels like an essentially 13-megapixel camera on the back, although it actually has two cameras working together to capture images. This allows for more advanced features like bokeh mode and selfie mode, which can add a new level of depth and creativity to your photography.

In terms of pricing, Alcatel has confirmed that both phones will be available for under $120. This makes them extremely affordable options for those who are looking for a budget-friendly smartphone without sacrificing too many features. The Alcatel One X is likely to be the more expensive option, although the exact price hasn't been officially announced.

Overall, it's clear that Alcatel has put a lot of thought into these new phones, and they're designed to provide good value for money. Whether you're in the market for a budget-friendly smartphone or just looking for an affordable upgrade over your current phone, the Alcatel One X and 1C are definitely worth considering.
