The Skoda Superb: A Practical and Reliable Estate Car
As I put the Skoda Superb through its paces, I was struck by how well it handles on the road. The sensor system, which is always a bit pessimistic, made me feel like I was going to crash at every turn, but fortunately that wasn't the case. The camera, while not ideal for close-up shots, allowed me to get as close as I needed to the car without getting too many blurs.
One of the things that really impressed me about the Skoda Superb is how manageable it is in tight spaces. I found myself effortlessly parking in a tiny spot, and the only thing that made it tricky was the automatic gearbox, which could be a bit jerky at times when first pulling away or maneuvering around corners.
If you're looking for a more sporty drive, the Skoda Superb Sportline Plus is available with adaptive suspension, which can firm up the suspension at the press of a button. However, I found that this wasn't worth it - the car is designed to be comfortable, and I didn't need that extra level of stiffness. There are other modes, such as driving mode and sports mode, but these also felt unnecessary for my needs.
One of the main reasons you might want to consider the Skoda Superb is if you do a lot of miles on the motorway. In this case, the diesel engine really comes into its own, providing plenty of punch off the line and a smooth ride at high speeds. I found that the gearbox responded well to my inputs, and I was able to cruise at 50mph without any issues.
The Skoda Superb also features adaptive cruise control as standard, which is both convenient and reassuring. The system will keep me at a safe distance from the car in front, and even includes automatic steering to help stay on course - although this does require an additional upgrade if you want the full autonomous driving experience.
As I drove through the countryside, I was impressed by how relaxing the Skoda Superb felt on the motorway. The only drawback was the sensor system's tendency to beep at me when I got too close to other cars - but I suppose that's a small price to pay for the added safety feature.
Overall, I would highly recommend the Skoda Superb to anyone looking for a reliable and practical estate car. With its comfortable ride, smooth handling, and generous spec list, it's hard to find fault with this car. And at a price point that's very competitive with other estates on the market, it's an absolute steal.

"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enthis is the recently revised skoda superb estate and it's a bit like jlo both were made famous ages ago for their big boots bootys but they've reinvented themselves this has had a revamp bit like jlo has to make it just as relevant as it ever was and this is the kind of car you're probably looking at if you're considering something like a volkswagen passata state a peugeot 508 and a mazda 6 touring or whatever it's called so the skoda it starts from 26 000 pounds pretty good value for what you get but this one's a little bit more expensive and i'll go into more detail on that later good news is though if you buy one through carlo through one of our trusted dealers you can save an average of four thousand pounds off for skoda superb estate in fact if you're interested in this call any car for that matter click on the pop out banner up there there you go to get a car why so much you can save now if you don't want to do that now and you want to do it later or you're recommending comment to someone else just give them to google help me car wow and my team and i are there to help you choose the right car for you and make sure you get it for a fair price from one of our trusted dealers buying a new car then head to car wow and my team will help you find your next car at a fair price car wow your one-stop car buying comparison site let's start this video by talking about the design of this revised skoda superb estate so from a distance it looks pretty much identical but there are some key upgrades now skoda is written proudly on the back rather than just having a badge sorry it should be scroll down you have posture tail lights scroll you got a redesigned rear bumper this is what it used to look like this is what it looks like now wait a minute bear with me stick of truth what the heck is this what rubbish anyway let's move down the side so you get some new alloy wheels start at 17 inches rising all the way up to these 19. this car is a sport line so bits that would be chrome like this and this are in black because that's cooler in car land moving around to the front once again they've redesigned the bumper here's the old bumper there's the new one got a new grille looks quite nice and new led matrix headlights so they'll do that thing with a blank out part of their beam so you don't dazzle on coming drivers it does look sharper than before there's some changes inside as well so let's check those out oh dear we seem to have lots of alarms going off because i've got a door open and the ignition on like i was saying so upgrades here on the inside over the previous superb include some new trims here on the dashboard and up here you also get some new seat coverings as well depending on which trim level you go for this being the sport line has the sport seats with the alcantara on them they are lovely lovely seats it's very nice but it doesn't really matter which version of the superb you go for it does feel fairly premium in here so anyone who thinks that skoda's a budget brand is wrong so squidgy squidgy solid squidgy soft yielding and comfy and there as well it's all rather nice and being a skoda it is of course nicely laid out as well dead simple to use so you've got your climate controls all there is to get to driving stuff here your lights there steering wheel simple and it's dead easy to get an ideal driving position because there's lots of adjustment in that steering wheel and in the seats as well this has the electric seats and they're heated interestingly the only model that doesn't have electric seats is the entry level se the range is very very well equipped and that brings down to the infotainment system so you probably notice it's got new design and the entry level car gets an 8 inch system and then if you step up to the next level you get an 8-inch system with inbuilt nav but really you don't need it because all skoda superbs come with apple carplay and android auto and it's wireless for both systems as well so you're just going to use google maps for your phone so you don't need this bigger nine inch system that we have here though it's quite nice the screen's fairly responsive it's shiny it's bright it's easy to whip through different menus it is of course completely touch screen it's not bad at all it's not quite as good as the system you get in the bmw 3 series touring in fact if you want to see my four in the video review of that car just click on the pop out banner up there now you can get this go to superb estate with a digital driver's display and it's an okay one it's a bit dark a bit like the bmw's to tell you the truth though i do think it's better than the three series system just because you have more options for changing your views and can show a bit more information on it if you want to i'll tell you what this car is also really good for and that's in car storage so look underneath this armrest there is quite a lot of space and check this out it's cooled by the air conditioning so you can keep cans in there to keep them chilled then you've got a usb port there there are your standard cup holders here some storage under here will it fit a large samsung galaxy s20 ultra yeah just about would it shut though yes that doesn't usually happen you've got 12 volt socket there and usb port there for charging your phone that you can get while it's charging with this car the glove box isn't all right size and yet again look we've got cooling from the air conditioning system and underneath here look at this there's actually storage beneath the front seats so i've got my bottles here which i can fit in the deep and plentiful door bins which are lined with felt so that when you put things in there they don't rattle around when you're driving about and finally look we've got a place for your glasses there in fact look at that look at the size of that you can fit skiing goggles in there it's so huge and there's another little secret storage space down there don't know what secret it's not is it everyone knows it's there all right let's check out the back seats shut the up please excuse my language just does my head in that stuff what i can't complain about though is space in the back of this super because it is drum roll please superb look look at that room loads of it look at this head room loads of it look how much space is in the footwell loads of it stretchy outness incredible need to carry three at once in the back oh no problem okay it is a bit of a problem because look big hump in the floor but because of those big foot wells lots of space for footage and even then three people in the back person in the middle seat will have enough headroom it's a reasonably comfy seat and the body is wide enough to accommodate three adults in the back at once you've also got your ice fix anchor points there though you do have the flip-off covers which i lose however when it comes to fitting a child seat in the back of this car dead simple even if you've got one of those bulky rear-facing seats because there's just so much room back here however it's even easier to fit a child seat in the skoda kodiaq because it's taller so you don't have to bend down so much and if you click on the pop-out banner up there you can see my full in-depth video review of that car and underneath here you have your armrest and i like the fact that the cup holders are covered so you don't end up putting your arm in them look there's a cup holders why do these things always look like faces to me freaks me out now if you need to carry longer objects like your skis and two people in the back at once you just fold down your ski hatch and then there's some other storage down here look it's an ashtray let's be honest this is an ashtray i know this doesn't have the heater element in it but this is designed as an ash tray sure is used as an ashtray in some markets got these little pouches there for putting things in and yet again look huge felt lined door bins last test come on no turn the ignition back on don't sound door alarm right no child lock off let's try it one last time come on go all the way down big window goes all the way down so you can rest your arm or lean out you want to do that kind of thing very impressive in the back seats now let's check out the boot so the load capacity is 660 liters which is class leading people it's bigger than the boot of the vw passata stay it's bigger than the boot you get with the peugeot 508 sw also known as the estate it's huge but you're probably thinking i just can't visualize liters can you illustrate that carry on size look good luggage carry on airplane size carry-on luggage that's what i wanted to say well yes i can i can't say it but i can illustrate it this is how many of those airplane size carry-on luggage cases you can fit in the superb estates boot it's quite a lot isn't it and all under the load cover as well there's some useful features in here you've got some hookage there you've got some hookages there you've got your 12 volters there you've got some more hookages there more hookage more tie down points all very very good and underneath here you now have a new divider with some big storage areas which we're using to store this single aaa battery just there okay let me just get this loca out of the way it is actually easy to remove if you're not a complete like me and what i want to show you now is the fact that it's a bit of a load lip it's a bit harder for me to get into this huge boot i have to climb over this you can actually get a bit that raises up this floor so there is less of a load lip but that's about 155 quid don't know why they don't just throw it in and just add 155 pounds to the starting price of the car now if you need to carry loads of stuff obviously you can fold down the rear seats look and then you can see why you probably would want that special raised floor because then you'd have a continuous flat low bed because at the moment if you're having to push heavy things to the front you're just gonna get them caught there so that feature could be handy but there's something else that annoys me about this look see that you could have some handles there to load the seats without having to reach in you can just do it from the back like you can on the vw passata state in fact if you click on the pop-out banner up there to watch my full in-depth video review of the passata state now in fairness i should point out that yet again if you do want those handles here you can picture for them 95 pounds i just don't understand what skoda is playing at really it's supposed to be a practical car yet they remove some of the practicality and make you pay a little bit extra for that it's just not worth the hassle that runs up to five and nine things about this car the backrest on the passenger seat on most versions of the skoda super estate can be folded flat which is really good if you want to carry very very long items however on the sportline model we won't do it even though this front passenger seat isn't electric like the driver's seat doesn't make sense to me the two-liter diesel engine in this car is pretty rattly you can probably hear it getting picked up on my microphone interestingly it's the same two little diesel you get in the volkswagen facade state yet somehow it's quieter in that car it's like it's being told to be just specifically louder in the skoda and that's the reason why the volkswagen is a bit more expensive i think there's any point having the start button here where you'd normally have the key in the ignition because if you've got keyless go you have to store the key somewhere so if you go to the start button there you must just have the key just stuck in there like that the old-fashioned way the plug-in hybrid version of this car's boot is just 625 litres so a terrible 35 litres less than the standard carts because of the batteries underneath the boot floor big deal i don't know why the automatic version of this car has to have such a big stupid gear selector which takes up so much space why doesn't it have like those small little ones that you now get on things like the volkswagen golf and the audi a3 much better who needs such a big stupid knob thankfully this car has plenty of cool features to help make up for all this here's five who says skoda is a budget brand lock you can get it with interior ambient lighting with 10 different colors to choose from see how on earth i'm going to stop my hat lunch from sliding about in the boot while i'm driving around well no problem look i've got some clever little skoda dividers look solid as rock so these little grippers in there where they allow you to do this one bottle unopened put it into the cup holder oh look i can't take the top off but if i push down a little bit there's grippers hold the bottle still and i swear you can do it see it does work being a skoda you get the classic umbrella in the door look brilliant eh you've been expecting this one haven't you like there is an ice scraper with a magnifying glass here in the fuel filler cap so very skoda now we need to talk about the engines and the different equipment levels and it's quite confusing so pay attention petrol engines there's three a 1.5 with 150 horsepower a 2 liter 190 horsepower or another 2 liter with 272 horsepower and all-wheel drive rather than the normal front wheel drive it also gets an automatic gearbox as standard then there's a diesels they're all two liter but you can have one with 122 horsepower or with 150 horsepower or with 190 horsepower which is what this car is and that 190 horsepower engine you can have it as normal front wheel drive or with all-wheel drive and that's what this car has the all-wheel drive then there's the plug-in hybrid so that has a 1.4 liter turbo petrol engine mated to an electric motor at the front and that has 218 horsepower it's also got a 13 kilowatt hour battery which gives you electric only driving of up to 34 miles to charge it from entry to full from a seven kilowatt wall charger will take about three and a half hours now let's talk about the equipment levels so there's se sel sc technology sportline plus this car and then the lauren and clement which is the range topping version so lots to think about but what i've done is gone on the car wow configurator and i have built what i believe is the best engine trim gearbox combination for the skoda superb estate and i've got some cracking deals back from our trusted kawaii dealers so you don't have to do any of the inputting or leg work all you do is click on this pop-up banner up there and you can go and find out what that car is and what deals are available right let's find out what this skoda is like to drive oh look can you see someone is there measuring speeders but i think they might just be local residents vigilantes anyway back to the review this is a very easy relaxing car to drive in town the suspension is really good at dealing with bumps you hardly feel them through your bottom you do hear them though the suspension can be a bit noisy one thing i can't complain about though is the visibility so it's actually pretty decent this is a big car but you do get the sense of where the corners of it are which is handy when you're maneuvering around town the light steering is also good as well it's so easy what's not so great is the turning circle so it's 11.7 meters which is more than a peugeot 508 sw it's more than a master six tour road and that does affect things when you're trying to park i'm gonna give you a gut parking now because it is a long car this isn't the tightest parking space but i still wish that i had a reversing camera now you only get reversing camera as standard on the range topping model otherwise you have to pay for them while you do have all-round parking sensors the camera just makes it easier to see exactly where you're heading rather than having to rely on the beeps and like the sensor thing i mean i'm not so convinced about where i am also the sensors are always a little bit pessimistic the camera lets you just get as close as you're there anyway it's not too bad and i'm holding up the traffic so i'm going to get out of here and i've done my little parking demonstration anyone who thinks that this is too big a car for them to drive in town is wrong it's perfectly manageable okay so there the only thing that can be a bit annoying is the automatic gearbox can sometimes just sometimes be a bit jerky when you're first pulling away or maneuvering something to bear in mind when you head out of the town and end up on a twisty road you do notice a bit of a trade-off for the skoda's relaxed approach because it's all a bit kind of leaning in the bends and soft and squidgy it's not terrible by any means but something like a voxel sport tourer does feel sharper and more fun to drive if that's what you want from your practical estate car you can get it with adaptive suspension which will firm at the suspension at the press of a button but really it's an option on this sportline plus version and it's not worth it just accept the fact this is designed to be a comfy car this one does have modes though driving mode so i can go for a sports mode which sharpens up the throttle response and adds weight to the steering but absolutely pointless on a skoda superb as is the fact that i can put the gearbox into sport or manual and then change gears myself i'm not going to be doing that can't be asked one of the main reasons you might be interested in a car like this skoda superb is because you do lots of miles on the motorway so let's see what it's like in its natural environment shall we i think if you're doing big distances you're going to want one of the diesels and this one's pretty good i'm cruising at 50 need to overtake someone going slowly it's fairly punchy off we go up to 70 no problem at all and the gearbox it responded fairly well this car is actually good on the motorway it's relaxing it's stable it should give good economy in fact shall we find out what economy it's averaging well there you go this particular car comes with adaptive cruise control as standard so i can just put it on and it's going to keep me a safe distance from the car in front so i'll set my speed and the distance that i want to stay from the car in front and i'll use a radar to make sure i don't get too close it'll break me automatically to slow down so that i don't need to think about that one thing it does miss though is that steering control it won't stir to keep you in lane if you want that functionality you have to pay extra you need the upgraded specialist cruise control and that's an extra thousand pounds for the steering it does some other clever stuff as well but really you do need that steering system that will do the auto steer for you for that full relaxing autonomous cruise control because otherwise you're still doing that you know the tiny little bit of input to keep yourself in lane whereas really you want the car to do it for the most relaxing long journey driving if you're wondering what that beeping is it's because i'm getting too close to the car we're actually filming from the safety system doesn't like it it's annoying when i'm trying to film the car but it's very very helpful for every owner who wants to avoid a crash yes i get the idea i'm just trying to film i'm aware of my proximity to our tracking car yes skoda you like to beep and bong at me don't you yes that's right yeah i know that's enough already so then what's my final verdict on the new sorry the revised skoda superb estate should you avoid it should you consider it should we shortly steal should you just go right ahead and buy it we know where this is going don't we yeah you should go right ahead and buy it if you want button there you must just have the key just stuck in there like that the old-fashioned way the plug-in hybrid version of this car's boot is just 625 litres so a terrible 35 litres less than the standard carts because of the batteries underneath the boot floor big deal i don't know why the automatic version of this car has to have such a big stupid gear selector which takes up so much space why doesn't it have like those small little ones that you now get on things like the volkswagen golf and the audi a3 much better who needs such a big stupid knob thankfully this car has plenty of cool features to help make up for all this here's five who says skoda is a budget brand lock you can get it with interior ambient lighting with 10 different colors to choose from see how on earth i'm going to stop my hat lunch from sliding about in the boot while i'm driving around well no problem look i've got some clever little skoda dividers look solid as rock so these little grippers in there where they allow you to do this one bottle unopened put it into the cup holder oh look i can't take the top off but if i push down a little bit there's grippers hold the bottle still and i swear you can do it see it does work being a skoda you get the classic umbrella in the door look brilliant eh you've been expecting this one haven't you like there is an ice scraper with a magnifying glass here in the fuel filler cap so very skoda now we need to talk about the engines and the different equipment levels and it's quite confusing so pay attention petrol engines there's three a 1.5 with 150 horsepower a 2 liter 190 horsepower or another 2 liter with 272 horsepower and all-wheel drive rather than the normal front wheel drive it also gets an automatic gearbox as standard then there's a diesels they're all two liter but you can have one with 122 horsepower or with 150 horsepower or with 190 horsepower which is what this car is and that 190 horsepower engine you can have it as normal front wheel drive or with all-wheel drive and that's what this car has the all-wheel drive then there's the plug-in hybrid so that has a 1.4 liter turbo petrol engine mated to an electric motor at the front and that has 218 horsepower it's also got a 13 kilowatt hour battery which gives you electric only driving of up to 34 miles to charge it from entry to full from a seven kilowatt wall charger will take about three and a half hours now let's talk about the equipment levels so there's se sel sc technology sportline plus this car and then the lauren and clement which is the range topping version so lots to think about but what i've done is gone on the car wow configurator and i have built what i believe is the best engine trim gearbox combination for the skoda superb estate and i've got some cracking deals back from our trusted kawaii dealers so you don't have to do any of the inputting or leg work all you do is click on this pop-up banner up there and you can go and find out what that car is and what deals are available right let's find out what this skoda is like to drive oh look can you see someone is there measuring speeders but i think they might just be local residents vigilantes anyway back to the review this is a very easy relaxing car to drive in town the suspension is really good at dealing with bumps you hardly feel them through your bottom you do hear them though the suspension can be a bit noisy one thing i can't complain about though is the visibility so it's actually pretty decent this is a big car but you do get the sense of where the corners of it are which is handy when you're maneuvering around town the light steering is also good as well it's so easy what's not so great is the turning circle so it's 11.7 meters which is more than a peugeot 508 sw it's more than a master six tour road and that does affect things when you're trying to park i'm gonna give you a gut parking now because it is a long car this isn't the tightest parking space but i still wish that i had a reversing camera now you only get reversing camera as standard on the range topping model otherwise you have to pay for them while you do have all-round parking sensors the camera just makes it easier to see exactly where you're heading rather than having to rely on the beeps and like the sensor thing i mean i'm not so convinced about where i am also the sensors are always a little bit pessimistic the camera lets you just get as close as you're there anyway it's not too bad and i'm holding up the traffic so i'm going to get out of here and i've done my little parking demonstration anyone who thinks that this is too big a car for them to drive in town is wrong it's perfectly manageable okay so there the only thing that can be a bit annoying is the automatic gearbox can sometimes just sometimes be a bit jerky when you're first pulling away or maneuvering something to bear in mind when you head out of the town and end up on a twisty road you do notice a bit of a trade-off for the skoda's relaxed approach because it's all a bit kind of leaning in the bends and soft and squidgy it's not terrible by any means but something like a voxel sport tourer does feel sharper and more fun to drive if that's what you want from your practical estate car you can get it with adaptive suspension which will firm at the suspension at the press of a button but really it's an option on this sportline plus version and it's not worth it just accept the fact this is designed to be a comfy car this one does have modes though driving mode so i can go for a sports mode which sharpens up the throttle response and adds weight to the steering but absolutely pointless on a skoda superb as is the fact that i can put the gearbox into sport or manual and then change gears myself i'm not going to be doing that can't be asked one of the main reasons you might be interested in a car like this skoda superb is because you do lots of miles on the motorway so let's see what it's like in its natural environment shall we i think if you're doing big distances you're going to want one of the diesels and this one's pretty good i'm cruising at 50 need to overtake someone going slowly it's fairly punchy off we go up to 70 no problem at all and the gearbox it responded fairly well this car is actually good on the motorway it's relaxing it's stable it should give good economy in fact shall we find out what economy it's averaging well there you go this particular car comes with adaptive cruise control as standard so i can just put it on and it's going to keep me a safe distance from the car in front so i'll set my speed and the distance that i want to stay from the car in front and i'll use a radar to make sure i don't get too close it'll break me automatically to slow down so that i don't need to think about that one thing it does miss though is that steering control it won't stir to keep you in lane if you want that functionality you have to pay extra you need the upgraded specialist cruise control and that's an extra thousand pounds for the steering it does some other clever stuff as well but really you do need that steering system that will do the auto steer for you for that full relaxing autonomous cruise control because otherwise you're still doing that you know the tiny little bit of input to keep yourself in lane whereas really you want the car to do it for the most relaxing long journey driving if you're wondering what that beeping is it's because i'm getting too close to the car we're actually filming from the safety system doesn't like it it's annoying when i'm trying to film the car but it's very very helpful for every owner who wants to avoid a crash yes i get the idea i'm just trying to film i'm aware of my proximity to our tracking car yes skoda you like to beep and bong at me don't you yes that's right yeah i know that's enough already so then what's my final verdict on the new sorry the revised skoda superb estate
