Hands On - The Samsung Galaxy Watch Active

The Samsung Galaxy Watch Active: A Fitness-Focused Timepiece with a Twist

At the recent Galaxy Unpacked event, Samsung unveiled its latest wearable device, the Galaxy Watch Active. This sleek and compact timepiece is designed to cater to fitness enthusiasts who want a reliable and feature-packed watch without the bulk. As a sequel to last year's Gear Sport, the Galaxy Watch Active takes inspiration from its predecessor but with a more streamlined approach.

One of the most noticeable differences between the Galaxy Watch Active and its larger counterpart is the lack of a rotating bezel. Instead, all features are performed on the touch screen, allowing for an intuitive user experience. This approach eliminates any bezels around the edge, providing a seamless full-touch experience that won't catch your finger on anything. The small screen size is not a problem, as Samsung has carefully designed it to accommodate this feature.

The Galaxy Watch Active boasts two buttons on the side: one on the bottom for navigating menus and another on the top, which serves as both a back button and a home button. Pressing the top button will take you back to the main screen if you're currently in another menu. The watch also features an array of watch faces, allowing users to personalize their experience. For this example, we've selected a minimalist design that hides bezels, providing a clean and modern look.

Underneath the sleek exterior, the Galaxy Watch Active is equipped with a heart rate sensor at the bottom of the device. This feature allows for accurate monitoring of your physical activity and health metrics. The watch also comes with new straps that resemble standard silicon straps on Apple watches. These 20mm straps have quick-release mechanisms, making it easy to swap them out for different styles or materials.

The Galaxy Watch Active is available in three models: a black version with a slate blue strap, a stainless steel body with a white strap, and a rose gold model with a pinkish peachish strap. The device itself is 40mm in size, making it more manageable than the larger Galaxy watch. However, it's worth noting that this size may not suit users with regular-sized wrists, as they will need to opt for the larger strap.

The box includes two strap sizes: small and large, with the smaller size being assumed to fit most wrist sizes due to its compact design. The device is priced at $200 or €250, a relatively affordable price point considering its features and build quality. With its release date announced as soon as possible, fitness enthusiasts can look forward to trying out this innovative new watch.

why should you care about the Galaxy watch active the idea is that it squeezes down all of those great features we see in the Galaxy watch into a more manageable size that's geared towards Fitness think of it as a sequel to last year's gear sport so this is a 40 mm body and it is considerably smaller than the quite large Galaxy watch there's a big difference between this and that larger watch too there's no rotating bezel this is all performed all your features are all performed on the touch screen so instead of flipping through your menus using the bezel here you touch the menus you want on the screen so a different way of approaching it than before it's quite intuitive the the small screen is not a problem because there aren't any bezels around the edge so you have this full touch experience that your finger does not get caught on anything on either side and that's quite a nice bonus feature there's two buttons on the side that you've probably seen me using there the bottom one PS up the menu and the top one is essentially a back button or it's a home button so we're going through the different menus on the top screen there press the top one if I was on a another menu screen and it takes you back to the main screen for the time many different watch faces in here so we can select Alternatives let's pick a nice pretty one so this one is being used to remote the watch and is nice and minimalist hides those bezels that you can see around the top of the screen there so let's have a look at the underneath there's a heart rate sensor on the bottom here and these are new straps which very much remind us of the standard silicon strap on the Apple watch they're 20 mm they have these quick release uh sections there so you can take it off and just fit a new type of strap so this version here is black with a sort of a slate blue strap we got this version here with a stainless steel body and a white strap and then we've got a rose gold model with a pinkish peakish peachish strap now let me put one of these on and you can see how it looks on my wrist cuz it is quite small apparently in the Box you get two strap sizes a small and a large this is probably the small or I'd assume it is anyway because that's not very big on my wrist and as you can see the watch face is quite minimal the body is fairly thick it'll easily fit underneath your shirt cuff should you wear a shirt and it is quite attractive this small strap though is quite small on my wrist anyone with regular size wrist is definitely going to need the bigger strap but it is quite nice that Samsung's thought about this being unisex and certainly suitable for big and small wrists the body is small 40 mm and you get both the straps in the box so this is $200 or €250 and is going to be
