**Tile Cutting Tools: A Guide to Choosing the Right One**
When it comes to tile cutting, there are several tools available that can make the process easier and more efficient. In this article, we will discuss some of the most common tile cutting tools used in DIY projects and professional installations.
**Nibblers: A Quick and Easy Solution for Small Cuts**
One of the simplest and quickest ways to cut a small hole in a tile is using a nibbler. These tools are essentially handheld devices that score a line on the tile, allowing you to easily remove a small piece or break off a corner. They are ideal for small projects, such as replacing a toilet flange or creating a round hole in a wall. Nibblers are also great for making small adjustments to existing holes, as they can be used to create a clean edge around the surrounding tile.
Nibblers typically consist of a handheld device with a scoring wheel and a handle. The user scores the line on the tile by applying pressure, and then uses a small tool to break off the excess material. While nibblers may not leave the cleanest cut, they are quick and easy to use, making them an excellent choice for small projects.
**Tile Cutters: A Convenient Way to Make Straight Cuts**
Another popular tile cutting tool is the snap cutter. This device uses a spinning wheel to score a line on the tile, and then snaps off the excess material when you push down on the handle. The result is a clean, straight cut with minimal waste. Snap cutters are ideal for larger projects, such as installing tiles in a shower or bathtub area.
Snap cutters come in various sizes, but most models can accommodate 34-inch tiles. They are lightweight and easy to use, making them an excellent choice for DIY enthusiasts and professionals alike. The tool is also relatively inexpensive, with prices ranging from $50 to $100, depending on the size and quality of the model.
**Wet Tile Saws: A Power Tool for Large Cuts**
For larger projects that require a more precise cut, wet tile saws are an excellent choice. These power tools use a diamond-coated blade and water to cool and lubricate the cutting process. The result is a smooth, clean cut with minimal waste.
Wet tile saws come in various sizes and styles, but most models feature a adjustable fence that allows you to make precise cuts. Some models also have a built-in table that tilts to allow for mitered cuts. Wet tile saws are ideal for larger projects, such as installing tiles in commercial bathrooms or kitchens.
The only drawback of wet tile saws is the potential for mess and water splashing during use. However, with proper maintenance and cleaning, these tools can be used safely and efficiently. Prices for wet tile saws range from $200 to $1,000, depending on the size and quality of the model.
**Conclusion**
Tile cutting tools come in various shapes and sizes, each designed to meet specific needs and requirements. Whether you're working on a small DIY project or a large commercial installation, there is a tile cutting tool that can help you achieve professional results with ease. By understanding the different types of tile cutting tools available, you can make informed decisions about which one is best for your next project.

"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enhi I'm Shannon from host improvements.com and in this video I just want to show you uh certain tools for cutting tiles and you know sort of how to choose them and and why to choose them for your specific case uh so we've got a a bit of an assortment here of some of the basic stuff uh starting out here we'll just start at the front we've got a a grinder with a segmented uh concrete blade in it which will cut tile as well so in that case uh you can that's nice for freehanding cuts you can make straight cuts if you have a bit of a you know a guide or whatever uh making larger Circle Cuts we actually have a video showing how to cut uh you know a toilet flange hole in the middle of a tile with that particular item so so the grinder is kind of multi-use uh and it'll work on most tiles it won't work on glass tiles really so but any Ceramics and porcelains and a lot of stones uh it'll work just fine uh it's also I like it as well for you know if I've got a tile that just needs a little hair shaved off or needs a little bit of form work on it it's nice and easy to uh you know hold the tile and and uh work with the grinder as well so so it works really well for that sort of thing next thing we have is a rot rotary type uh tool so this will get a diamond tipped abrasive kind of bit in it there's a few different shapes um and basically it just turns at a high rate of speed again this can be used for regular shapes cutting a few holes or just a little bit of uh final touch-up work you know if you got to just grind a little bit off the side or whatever so that's kind of a you know another tool that you might already have that you can adapt for doing your next tile project uh then uh these two little guys um these are uh Diamond tipped hole saws so they'll go into be used in a drill or a drill press and uh uh use most of them need some lubrication which would just be water to help cool them and and Lube them so you would just simply uh you know be able to cut some perfectly round holes with this into tiles uh typical installation for these would usually be you know maybe in your shower for around uh uh the pipes coming out of the wall that sort of thing or or anywhere you need a a round hole uh these nibblers right here basically uh you be able to uh score a line on a piece of tile and you know if you've just got to take a little bit off the edge you know say less than a half an inch and it's uh a little precarious using any of the other tools or maybe you just need to break a corner off you'd score your line where you need it etched on the tile and then just simply squeeze these along there and it'll snap that that edge off they don't leave the cleanest cut but uh they're fairly quick so you could quickly get that off of there and then go back to the grinder or whatever just to clean that edge up so so those are the nibblers uh then we've got this uh this snap snap uh tile cutter basically so really what it does is uh there's a little wheel underneath here think you can see it this is a spare one hanging there but there's a little wheel right here so you would put your tile in there in here there's a bit of a fence put a bit of weight uh pressure on there so that little wheel scores a little line there and then uh this little foot flips down and when you push down on the handle it basically snaps the tile off this Ridge here on the bed is raised slightly from the two sides so that score line makes you cut a really nice straight straight uh quick cut uh it can't do a regular Cuts but it it does straight cuts all day long and there's uh you know different sizes of these you can get I think my biggest one is it does about a 34 in tile or something like that but uh they're really easy to carry around great for Quick Cuts they don't always leave a perfect Edge but uh you know along the edges of rooms and that sort of thing where it's going to be covered by a baseboard um really quick and easy No Mess there's no dust and water or anything like that so perfect for straight cuts then we get into uh wet tile saws so basically this is uh kind of the El Cheapo type saw that uh you can get for like 50 bucks or whatever so it's got a diamond wheel in here it's got a little reservoir for water underneath here so basically what happens you fill this with water turn the saw on the blade uh spins that way actually and it dips down here in the water tray which cools the blade and also lubricates it and uh you push your material through from here most of these will have a fence bit of a a fence that goes on here as well to uh you know almost like a mini table table saw uh this one as well uh has a adjustment here where you can tilt the table if you had to miter the corner whatever these are they work okay they'll they'll do the job there's uh much more fancier ones uh you know depending on the kind of money you want to spend but uh this type of saws is great for just about all kind of tiles uh as far as wet wet tile saw is and uh the only thing with them they can be a little bit Messier because you've got the water when this wheel spins and the water is on it it's it's spraying a little bit so uh some saws are better than others but uh they do make a a pretty nice clean cut so those are kind of the basic things uh we do have a video already on on the grinder uh showing how to use it to do that toilet flange hole like I I think I mentioned already uh we're going to do a video on uh some of these other items uh probably in particular we're going to do the the scoring snap cutter and uh I've got a better wet tile saw than this we're going to do a demonstration with that as well and maybe the Nippers as well so so uh have a look for those uh see if we' got them up yet and uh hopefully they'll help you out in your next project or your next buying decision for your tiling project so uh if you have any questions about this or any any other DIY project you got going on you can go to our website at house-improvements.com uh we've got some articles and all kinds of stuff there but we also have the form so you can uh click the form tab go in there post
