"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enMarshall has upgraded their portable kilburn to with a more rugged design and improved specs welcome everyone it is Andrew here for Apple Insider we're in take a look at Marshalls latest speaker Marshalls line of speakers has been growing almost since launch so with a few core models that worked over Bluetooth and some were wired some more Wireless then soon they had new multi room option that included airplay support that we've already reviewed and now they've gone back and updated some of their lines including the new kilburn 2 and the Stanmore to the kilburn 2 is a compact portable speaker it's not tiny by any means but it is a powerful powerful little thing that you can easily take with you the new updated design has several new aesthetic changes as well as functional ones and the specs inside were also upgraded to include a more omnidirectional sound and the latest Bluetooth 5 inside of the box you're gonna get the speaker itself a getting started guide the safety and kind of informational packet and then of course the power cable taking a look at the speaker it already has a more modern design while still paying homage to the classic brand it still has that retro vintage look but a lot of the gold accents that were here before have been put by the wayside taking way for a new slightly more modern look and of course Marshalls script word mark is still protruding right from the front along the top you're gonna find all the different controls you're going to need to get in tune the sound to your liking turning up the volume knob on the far left will turn on the speaker and it'll animate the battery percentage on the far right hand side it has a nice little animation that goes up and down as the speaker's turn on and off far left side you will also have that little Bluetooth button allowing you to go into pairing mode as well as switching between two different host devices you can connect to different phones and jump between each person the knobs are no longer covered in the metal knurling that we saw before been said a slightly soft kind of rubber is feeling they still feel really good really solid and have just the perfect amount of tension as you're adjusting them there's something we love about these tactile controls something about these physical knobs rather than a slider or an app or something else that we really just love now Marshall does have a very distinct sound a slightly gritty and perfectly tuned for that rock genre so it does have these knobs where you can adjust the bass and the treble but they're not going to skew too far from that sound profile gonna keep things pretty much fairly on point but you can adjust it a little bit to your likings all the corners are reinforced this is gonna be even more durable in the last generation so as you take this thing with you which it's big enough you're not gonna take everywhere but as you do take this outside it's gonna give you some added protection it also has IP x2 water resistance so a few drops of water or also not gonna kill this thing turning it around you can see we have an open back that allows a little bit more thump from that bass there's also a cover protecting the power input in on the left side there's a tiny three-and-a-half millimeter headphone jack so if you do want to plug this in using an aux cable totally doable and you don't have to rely on Bluetooth for even more portability there is a leather line strap along the top that's kind of that red bow underneath which also acts as a really nice accent color makes it easy to carry this thing around because it can be a little bit heavy but it can also be removed if it's not something that you need volume wise this thing gets loud crazy loud even 1/2 volume it was more than enough for us we're inside and sound even better as we moved outside listening to music as we mentioned before Marshall has a very iconic sound profile and that holds true for the kilburn it has a slightly gritty tone to it that sounds perfect for those guitar solos it may not be as well suited for other genres such as some punchy bass heavy dance music or even some beat Laden rap the battery life here is amazing it can actually get over 20 hours of music playback and in our testing it's gotten pretty close to that but it's been hard to leave this thing running at an acceptable volume for that period of time then Marshall Kilburn -
