The Art of Restoring a MR2: A Personal Journey

As I sat in my newly acquired vehicle, the Toyota MR2, I couldn't help but feel a sense of excitement and trepidation. The car had been with me for a while, and it was clear that it needed some TLC to get it running smoothly again. My friend and fellow enthusiast, Charlie, had helped me bleed the brakes, which were leaking heavily due to a faulty caliper. We made sure to bleed all of them thoroughly, as I didn't want any air in the system causing more problems down the road.

With the brakes sorted, we moved on to the next task at hand: getting the coolant temperature sensor working with my laptop's data. The wire was too short, so we had to get creative and rig up a makeshift solution to keep it from overheating. This involved placing the laptop in a protective case and securing it to the car's dashboard using some clever wiring techniques. I must admit, I was impressed by Charlie's ingenuity and problem-solving skills.

As we continued to work on the MR2, I couldn't help but feel a sense of nostalgia wash over me. The car had been with me for a while, and I had grown quite attached to it. However, it was clear that some work needed to be done to get it back in shape. We made our way to the local shop, where Charlie's friend, Brent, was kind enough to let us use his space. This allowed me to focus on getting the car sorted without taking up too much space.

The next task at hand was to inspect the exhaust system and make sure it wasn't burning out due to improper installation. We also took a closer look at the hood or trunk, whichever you want to call it, and made sure that the exhaust pipe didn't get in the way of airflow. With the brakes bled and the coolant temperature sensor working, we felt confident that we were making progress.

However, just as things were starting to come together, disaster struck. We attempted to pull the minivan out of Brent's shop, but it was a bit too big for the space we had allocated. I ended up getting stuck behind the minivan, which caused some chaos and confusion. In the end, we managed to get the Odyssey (the minivan) out of the way, but not before I "smoked" it.

Despite the setback, we were determined to get the MR2 back on the road. We worked tirelessly to complete various tasks, including installing a new clutch and starter motor. The car was starting to take shape, and I could see the potential for something truly special. With each passing hour, my excitement grew as I watched the transformation from a neglected vehicle to a reliable daily driver.

My plans for the MR2's future were ambitious: turbocharging the stock K-series engine with a standard turbo kit. I wanted to make around 300-400 horsepower on the stock motor and see how that would affect the overall performance of the car. The goal was to create a reliable and fun driving experience, but also something that would stand out from the crowd.

As I looked at the MR2 now, I could see the potential for greatness. It had been a long journey to get it back on the road, but it was clear that the hard work and dedication were worth it. With each passing day, I couldn't wait to put my newfound creation to the test and see where it would take me.

I would I would have won if my girlfriend wasn't riding with me or she wasn't too fat I'm down I'll wear it yeah what you got boy these are legitimate hot sauces from a place in Colorado really nice ones good thing I don't like spicy stuff Ranch is too spicy for me dude I'm all about the sauce boss that sauce though I put hot sauce on everything t-shirt over you should open the the Boosted Shades one see if it's a whole bunch of sunglasses that'd be dope I hope it is that would be sick yeah that would be really cool they're really cool sunglasses they're like all wooden they have like a whole bunch of different designs on them and stuff yeah so we got a box from boed Shades as far as we know that sunglasses that's what I would think unless it's just what they wrote on there yeah I know the out of here blind him Charlie's going to show some stuff on the GE he's going to show all the wiring he got for it got a whole OBD1 wiring harness for the engine and the dash so it's all back came with fuse the fuse block both fuse PS it's a lot of wires so that'll just hook up straight to my own data without the stuff and I got a I don't know if I use that one cuz the CRV trans has an electronic speed sensor and this has a cable so I might have to switch that out to like a CRV one yeah but basically I have everything to get it running once it's mounted I do have everything just need to get a clutch in a starter and a lot of Fab work and I still don't know anything about the hatch yet I really have not bothered to mess with it need to do like a leak down test make sure all the Pistons are good cuz I think it might have something to do with the compression cuz it had a lot of blow by before it started making that noise so I might have cracked a ringland or have a cracked piston but still need to tear in that some more but happy to have the MR2 back a lot of the things I did on this were kind of ghetto rigged but I was just trying to get it home get it out of Brent shop he didn't mind having it there but I felt bad just keeping it there kind of taking up space since he was just helping me out so much with it I was just trying to get it gone so I'm definitely probably going to work on this the next few days I want to get it running and driving reliably fix a lot of the ghetto stuff I did and just start cleaning it up getting it ready for the turbo build I'm thinking for now I might just turbo the stock K series the stock K24 in there and try to make like 3 to 400 horsepower on the stock motor and then I'll have a good idea of how the turbo setup's going to go but for now just want to clean it up make it a good little daily driver or just a reliable car if I need to take it anywhere and yeah that's pretty much it it made it here just fine it was I'm thinking for now I might just turbo the stock K series the stock K24 in there and try to make like 3 to 400 horsepower on the stock motor and then I'll have a good idea of how the turbo setup's going to go but for now just want to clean it up make it a good little daily driver or just a reliable car if I need to take it anywhere and yeah that's pretty much it it made it here just fine it was cruising it like 185° on the coolant temp it didn't get hot at all all we did was just put water in there and we just filled it through this little hose on the intake I'm sure there's a lot of air bubbles in there but it did not get hot at all so more work to be done on this thing and that's going to be it for tonight though so we'll see you soon\n"
