As a technology enthusiast, I've been fascinated by the concept of upgrading the Nintendo Switch to version 2, which boasts better battery life. The question on everyone's mind is: can you swap the new v2 board into the original switch? To answer this, I teamed up with iFixit for the Fix at Home Challenge, a project that has been on my radar since the release of the v2 Switch.

The main goal of this challenge was to determine if it's possible to upgrade the original Switch to version 2 without compromising its originality. I decided to take on the task and give it a try, using the iFixit Pro Tech Tool Kit as my trusty sidekick. The kit is packed with all the necessary tools, including screwdrivers, spudgers, tweezers, and magnetic project mats.

I started by gathering all the necessary materials, including the new v2 board (model 0-1), the original Switch's motherboard, and a brand-new battery. I also made sure to have all the required tools within arm's reach, such as the Y0 screwdriver bits, Y3 screwdriver bits, spudger X', angled tweezers, blunt tweezers, iFixit plastic card, adhesive remover, MX 4 viscous thermal paste, g5 Pro viscous thermal paste, isopropyl 99% alcohol, q-tips, and a microfiber cloth.

As I began the upgrade process, I realized that all the changes were contained on the new v2 board itself. The components still worked and fit perfectly inside the original Switch. This was a significant discovery, as it meant that upgrading the motherboard would be relatively straightforward.

To make the process even easier, I decided to swap the battery and fan from my husband's original Switch unit with those from my own Animal Crossing Switch unit. He had fallen in love with his original Switch but wanted to take advantage of its better battery life. I took his original Switch apart, extracted the motherboard, and replaced it with a brand-new one that I had purchased for my v2 Switch. After installing the new motherboard, I reassembled everything, including the themed back cover on my current v2 unit.

The result was nothing short of amazing – the original Switch had transformed into a v2 Switch without sacrificing its beloved screen. My husband was overjoyed with the result, and he thanked me for giving his Switch a fresh new lease on life. To make it even better, I also gifted him some new fan and card readers to keep his Switch future-proof.

In conclusion, upgrading the Nintendo Switch to version 2 is possible without sacrificing its originality. With the right tools and knowledge, anyone can transform their original Switch into a v2 Switch, complete with all the same features and functionality they loved about their old unit.
