SUMMER TBR!
**Heather’s Summer TBR List: A Dive into Books for June, July, and August**
Hello everyone! My name is Heather, and welcome to the channel Bookables. Today, I’m going to share with you my summer TBR list. But before diving into the books, let me start by talking about my approach to reading.

### **A Mood Reader’s Approach to Reading**
I used to do monthly TBRs, where I would try to pick out books to read every single month and stick to them strictly. However, over the years, I’ve realized that rigidly planning my reading isn’t the right fit for me. Instead, I discovered that I’m a **mood reader**—someone who enjoys picking up books based on what they feel like reading at any given moment.
That said, I still find myself jotting down lists at the beginning of each month or season as a way to keep track of books I’d love to explore. It’s not mandatory for me to stick to these lists, but it’s a fun way to have books on standby if I feel like diving into something new.
For this summer, I decided to break away from monthly TBRs and instead create a **seasonal TBR**—a list of books I plan to read over the next three months: June, July, and August. Let’s dive into what’s on my list!

### **Backlist Books: Rediscovering Old Favorites**
This year, I’m participating in a challenge called **22 Books to Read in 2022**, where I focus on reading books published before 2022. It’s been a fantastic way to revisit authors and genres that I might have overlooked in the past. For this summer, here are the backlist titles I hope to get to:
#### *No Exit* by Taylor Adams (June)
This is a mystery thriller that gained popularity a few years ago and even became a Hulu adaptation. It’s been on my radar for a while, so I’m excited to finally dive into it.
#### *Binti* by N.K. Jemisin (July/August)
A sci-fi novella that’s been highly recommended to me. Even though I’ve tried to read more sci-fi this year and realized I might not be as into the genre, Binti is only 100 pages long, so it seems like a manageable and quick read.
#### *All Systems Red* by Martha Wells (July/August)
Another short novella that’s part of a series. I’ve heard great things about this one, and since it’s only a few hundred pages, it’s perfect for fitting into my summer reading schedule.
#### *The Medallion: The Knight Library* by Matt Kahn (July/August)
I was considering removing this from my list due to mixed reviews, but I decided to give it a try. It has a lot of love from some readers, and I’m curious to see how it resonates with me.
#### *Velvet is the Night* by Sylvia Morales García (July/August)
This murder mystery set in the 1970s caught my interest because of its intriguing premise. I’ve read one of her other books (*Mexican Gothic*) and enjoyed it, so I’m excited to explore more of her work.

### **New Releases: Anticipated Reads for Summer**
In addition to backlist books, I’m also looking forward to diving into some highly anticipated new releases this summer:
#### *Flying Solo* by Linda Holmes (June)
Linda Holmes is the author of *Evie Drake Starts Over*, which I loved a few years ago. Her newest book has been on my radar, and I can’t wait to see what she brings to the table.
#### *Love on the Brain* by Ali Hazelwood (July/August)
This one comes out in August, and I already have an e-arc. It’s described as a mix of romance and humor, which sounds right up my alley. Plus, it’s set in academia, a setting I always find fascinating.
#### *Stay Awake* by Megan Gold (July/August)
Another new release that I’m excited to get my hands on. It’s been compared to Agatha Christie mysteries, which I absolutely adore, so this one is at the top of my priority list.
#### *The Last Housewife* by Ashley Winsted (August)
I loved her debut novel, *In My Dreams I Hold a Knife*, and am eager to dive into her newest mystery, *Solar*. Though my NetGalley approval for it is pending, I’ll definitely be reading it when it releases in August.
#### *Girl Forgotten* by Karen Slaughter (August)
Karen Slaughter’s books are known for their intense and dark storytelling. This one is the sequel to *Pieces of Her*, which was adapted into a Netflix series that I didn’t love as much as expected. But I’m curious to see how she evolves her writing in this second book.

### **Physical Books and Other Reads**
I’ve also been trying to get back into reading physical books now that I have a ten-month-old baby. Here are a few more titles I plan to explore:
#### *The Royals Next Door* by Karina Hall
I bought these at Target because they looked so cute, reminiscent of Fallon Ballard’s *Lease on Love*. They’re perfect for summery, feel-good reads.
#### *Book of Night* by Holly Black (August)
This is Holly Black’s first adult fantasy novel, and I’m curious to see how it stacks up against her young adult work. It’s only 300 pages, so I’m hopeful it will be a quick and engaging read.
#### *Black Cake* by Charmaine Wilkerson
This one has been on my library hold list forever! It came out in January, and every time I check the holds, it always gets pushed back. This summer, I’m making it a priority to finally read it.
#### *Unseekable Greta James* by Jennifer E. Smith (August)
Jennifer E. Smith is known for her contemporary young adult novels, but this is her first adult book. It’s described as short and sweet, with a summery vibe that sounds perfect for the season.
#### *And Then to See You Yesterday* by Rachel Caine and Andrew Solomon
I’ve read all of Rachel Caine’s books and enjoyed them, so I’m excited to dive into this time-travel YA novel. It came out in May, but I’m planning to catch up on it this summer.

### **Reflections on Reading Habits**
As I wrap up my TBR list for the summer, I realize how much of a **seasonal reader** I am. My choices tend to lean toward thrillers and beachy reads during the summer months, while in the fall, I might switch to atmospheric, spooky, or mystery-heavy stories.
This summer’s list is a mix of backlist titles, new releases, and physical books that scream summery feels. Whether I manage to read all of them or not, I’m excited to explore these stories and see where my mood takes me.
Thank you so much for watching! If you enjoyed this video, I’d love to hear which books on my list catch your interest. Drop a comment below and let me know what’s on *your* summer TBR. I hope to share another seasonal TBR with you in September for the fall lineup—stay tuned!

That’s all for now! Happy reading, everyone!
