Top 5 Smartphones of 2014 (Public Voted)
**The Top 5 Smartphones of 2014: As Voted by superf TV Fans**
As 2014 comes to an end, it has been an absolutely fantastic year for smartphones. We've seen more smartphone releases than ever before, which is great because it gives us a lot of variety. However, this also makes the decision of buying a smartphone that much more difficult due to the sheer number of options available in the market. To make things easier, we decided to do something a little different and asked our audience to vote for their favorite smartphones of 2014. We posted on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Google+, and received hundreds of responses. After spending practically all morning counting the votes, we have the results! This way, there’s no bias involved—it’s purely based on what you, the audience, think are the best smartphones of 2014.
### 5. HTC One (M8) – 5% Votes
Coming in at number five with 5% of your votes is the HTC One (M8). This device has been praised for its sleek design and premium build quality. The HTC Design Team did an outstanding job, and along with the BoomSound speakers—still the best on any smartphone out there—it makes this a great option for many people. However, one major downside is the 4-megapixel rear-facing camera (UltraPixel). While these pixels perform well in low light, they don’t match up to some of the competition when it comes to detail in most shots. It’s rumored that the next HTC One (likely called the M9) will have a more traditional camera setup like the competition, which should help boost its position in next year's rankings.
### 4. Samsung Galaxy S5 – 6% Votes
At number four with 6% of your votes is the Samsung Galaxy S5. The S Series has always been very popular, but the S5 hasn’t been as popular as some of its predecessors like the S4 and S3. Despite this, it’s still a very safe option for many people because of its great screen, expandable storage, removable battery with long-lasting performance, water and dust resistance, and a rear-facing camera capable of filming 4K video. One area where the S5 fell short was its build quality—it didn’t go for a premium metal design, opting instead for a full plastic build. However, it’s rumored that the next S6 will have a premium build, so we can look forward to that in the new year.
### 3. Sony Xperia Z3 – 8% Votes
Tied at number three with 8% of your votes is the Sony Xperia Z3. This smartphone is a great overall device, and Sony continues to impress with their premium builds. The Xperia Z3 boasts a 20.7-megapixel rear-facing camera, excellent battery life, water and dust resistance, and the ability to connect with your PS4 for remote gaming—making it an appealing option for gamers. All of these features make it a top choice for many people.
### 3. iPhone 6 Plus – 8% Votes
Also tied at number three is the iPhone 6 Plus, which received 8% of your votes. Apple finally gave in to pressure and released larger smartphones this year, with the iPhone 6 Plus leading the charge. It features a 5.5-inch 1080p display, optical image stabilization, a large battery for all-day usage, and it’s water-resistant. This has been a great option for Apple users who wanted a larger smartphone but previously only had the 4-inch screens of the iPhone 5 and 5S.
### 2. iPhone 6 – 11% Votes
Coming in at number two with 11% of your votes is the iPhone 6. This device continues to be a very comfortable choice for many people, and it’s often considered the best smartphone out there for its combination of features. Its 4.7-inch display fits nicely in the hand, making it very comfortable to use and hold in one hand. The Touch ID fingerprint reader is widely regarded as the best on any smartphone, and despite only having an 8-megapixel rear-facing camera (1.2 megapixels for the front-facing camera), the photos it takes are consistent and of high quality.
### 1. Samsung Galaxy Note 4 – 51% Votes
Finally, coming in at number one with a whopping 51% of your votes is the Samsung Galaxy Note 4. This device ticks so many boxes for people, making it the best smartphone of 2014 as voted by superf TV fans. It features a Quad HD Super AMOLED display—arguably the best you can get on a smartphone—and a large removable battery for great usage. It also has expandable storage, a rear-facing camera capable of filming 4K with optical image stabilization, and a premium build with a metal frame and soft-touch back for a grippy feel. While it does come with Samsung’s TouchWiz skin on top of Android (which some people dislike), at this screen size, it offers unique features like multi-window functionality and S Pen support that you simply don’t get on other large-screen smartphones.
### Honorable Mentions
A few devices didn’t quite make the top five but deserve a mention. These include the LG G3, which was an absolutely great device with its compact 5.5-inch screen, the Nexus 6 with its stock Android experience (Lollipop) and direct updates from Google, and the OnePlus One, which is considered the best budget smartphone—if you can get your hands on one without needing an invite.
