Creating a Sparkly Statement Necklace with Basic Pieces
Hey guys welcome back to HDTV handmade if you've got a big event like prom or a wedding coming up I've got the perfect project for you because today I'm sharing how to create a sparkly statement necklace from basic pieces like beads buttons and charms. For this project, you will need clear veneer and I purchased this from the fabric section of my local craft store and you can get it by the yard you really don't need a full yard for this project but I'm going to reuse the rest of it for other projects so that's why I purchased so much. You'll also need Super Glue, beads, charms or buttons, pliers, wire cutters, a hole punch, chain, jump rings, and a clasp.
I have a lot of pretty pieces here and I'm going to go with this necklace which I'm going to cut apart. I'm also using this large flower and finally I'm going to use this smaller circular bead. I got the idea to wrap the center of the necklace around the flower so I'm just going to trim this necklace with wire cutters, it's still a bit too long to wrap around so I'm going to trim it once more and then I'm going to do the same for the smaller beads each one will be wrapped in rhinestones unfortunately this bead doesn't have a flat back so I'm going to create one by gluing a button to the center. This is necessary so that it lies completely flat on the veneer.
I cut a small piece of veneer which I hope you can see here and I'm just adding glue to the button and pressing it down into the venl now it's time to wrap the rhinestones around and glue them into place. This part was kind of tricky, I glued one end down and then I went one by one lifting the ends with my tweezers and squeezing glue right beneath it's okay if the glue oozes out onto the veneer surrounding your pieces because we're actually just going to cut this away later keep going until all the pieces you've chosen have been secured to the ventil.
Now, it's time to cut these out leave a tiny border around the edges because we'll need to attach jump Rings later. You can use a Precision knife to really carve out the uneven edges around the piece. This step is hard to see but I'm basically using my hole punch to create a hole in the veneer right next to the edge of the piece then I'm slipping a jump ring through the hole, you'll do this on either side so that you can connect these pieces together.
Now it's time to connect everything and form the necklace. I'm opening the jump rings to connect the three main pieces now I'm adding chain to either side of the necklace. The last step is to split this chain in the middle so that I can add on a clasp. I love this project because you can put whatever pieces you want on top of clear veneer to create a custom necklace that fits perfectly for whatever outfit you're wearing to your next big event.
Do you guys have any big events coming up that you need to dress up for, I know that it's prom season so good luck to all of you going to prom and don't stress about finding the perfect dress or date. I didn't even have a date to prom and I still had a ton of fun, so I hope you guys enjoyed this video.
