It Organizes & Charges ALL Your Apple Gear!

# Review: Kensington Studio Caddy – A Comprehensive Look at Its Features and Functionality

Chris recently had the opportunity to review the **Kensington Studio Caddy**, an accessory designed to charge and organize a significant portion of your Apple ecosystem. In this article, we’ll take a detailed look at its features, functionality, and how it compares to other similar products on the market.

---

## Introduction to the Kensington Studio Caddy

The **Kensington Studio Caddy** is not just another Apple accessory—it’s a multi-functional device that aims to charge and organize your Apple devices in one compact space. Chris describes it as a heavy, well-constructed box that feels substantial and high-quality, which gives users confidence in its durability and reliability.

This accessory is designed to support the **Apple ecosystem**, specifically focusing on devices you might use at your desk, such as MacBooks, iPads, iPhones, and AirPods. While it doesn’t charge Apple Watches or integrate with HomePods or TVs, it’s a powerful solution for keeping your Apple devices organized and charged in one place.

---

## Key Features of the Kensington Studio Caddy

The **Kensington Studio Caddy** boasts several impressive features that make it a standout product:

1. **Wireless Charging**: The device includes dual Qi wireless charging areas, one for your iPhone and another for your AirPods. This means you can charge both your phone and accessories without needing to plug them in directly.

2. **Magnetic Attachments**: The vertical stand and charger sections attach magnetically, allowing for a seamless and flexible setup. You can detach them if needed, giving users the freedom to arrange their workspace as they see fit.

3. **Organizational Sections**: The caddy features dedicated slots for your iPad and MacBook, complete with padding to protect your devices. This makes it easy to keep your Apple products tidy and within reach.

4. **Ports and Expandability**: On the sides, there are USB-C and USB-A ports for additional connectivity options. This allows users to charge or connect other devices beyond what’s included in the box.

5. **Material and Design**: The soft material used on the caddy is designed to prevent scratches on your devices, while the bumper edges ensure your phone stays securely in place.

The power brick also comes with adapters for different regions, making it versatile for global use. Additionally, there’s an extra adapter that can be swapped out if your phone isn’t tall enough, allowing you to adjust the height as needed.

## Comparison: Kensington Studio Caddy vs. Satechi Hub

Chris compared the **Kensington Studio Caddy** to another popular product he uses: the **Satechi hub and stand**. While both devices aim to charge and organize Apple products, there are notable differences in functionality and design.

The **Satechi hub** has multiple bays for iPads or iPhones and a single wireless charging port. However, when devices are plugged in, they’re not easily accessible for use. This makes the Satechi hub more of a storage solution rather than an interactive workspace.

In contrast, the **Kensington Studio Caddy** allows users to interact with their devices while they’re charging. For example, you can place your phone face-up on the wireless charging section to view notifications or make calls. The flexibility and aesthetic appeal of the Kensington caddy give it a clear edge over the Satechi hub for desk organization.

## Personal Experiences and Use Cases

Chris shared his experiences using the **Kensington Studio Caddy** in his workspace. He found it particularly useful when paired with an iPad in a Magic Keyboard, as it allows him to keep everything organized while maintaining productivity.

One of the standout features for Chris was how compact and versatile the caddy is. Despite its small size, it manages to fit a lot of functionality into one unit. He also appreciated the premium feel of the product, noting that it’s built to last and looks great on his desk.

However, Chris did mention a few drawbacks. The power cord tends to sprawl across his desk, which can be inconvenient for neat freaks. Additionally, placing the caddy behind his ultra-wide monitor made accessing devices slightly less convenient than ideal. Despite these minor issues, he still finds the **Kensington Studio Caddy** to be an incredible solution for his needs.

---

## Pricing and Value for Money

The **Kensington Studio Caddy** retails at $179, which Chris acknowledges is not cheap. However, he believes it’s worth the investment for its premium build quality and organizational capabilities. While there are more utilitarian alternatives like multi-port chargers, this caddy stands out for its design and functionality.

---

## Conclusion

The **Kensington Studio Caddy** is a game-changer for anyone looking to streamline their desk setup with Apple devices. Its ability to charge and organize multiple devices in one compact space, combined with its sleek design, makes it an excellent choice for those who value both aesthetics and practicality.

Whether you’re using it as part of your primary workspace or as a mobile solution when working from cafes or meetings, the **Kensington Studio Caddy** delivers on its promises. While it may not be perfect for everyone, Chris believes it’s ideal for Apple enthusiasts who appreciate high-quality accessories that enhance their workflow and desk setup.

"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enhey it's chris today we're checking out an apple accessory that not only looks really great but is super useful now i'm calling it an apple accessory rather than a specific device accessory because it really is capable of charging and organizing almost your entire apple ecosystem this is brand new by the way it's called the kensington studio caddy i gotta tell you this is not light this is a heavy box for being the size that it is which tells me there's something substantial in here and i like that all right the features are listed as such made to support the apple ecosystem vertical space-saving stand to cradle your macbook and ipad so there you go dual chi wireless charging for iphone and air pods and the vertical stand in the chi charger magnetically attach or should i say detach i'm really looking forward to tearing into this so let's just get into it now i guess it's not a hundred percent accurate to say that this can charge and organize your entire apple ecosystem because it's not gonna charge your apple watch it has nothing to do with the apple tv or home pods but nevertheless it can charge and organize a good portion of your apple ecosystem specifically the stuff at your desk oh this is one of the pieces this is the qi wireless charging section so this is where your phone's gonna go your airpods go here and yeah that's hefty that's solid it feels like a quality product we'll see if it acts like a quality product it's worth pointing out here we have a couple extra ports on the side usbc and usb-a so if you need to expand beyond just what's shown on the box you can actually do that and then on the other side we actually have the power button and another port i like this material it reminds me of something it's soft so your phone's not going to crash onto this and get scraped up there's a nice bumper it's kind of like a lip on the bottom too so that'll hold your phone in place and again it's a soft landing spot and then on top it's kind of got an indentation where your air pods fit got that same nice fabric and then it looks like on the front we also have some lights that are going to light up and let us know what's going on too and then can you see on the back there's a magnet on each side here and that's going to magnet onto the back the organizational portion one thing to point out here is that the power brick has some adapters so depending on where you live you can make sure that this is gonna work there of course being from the us i'm gonna stick the us version on here and there's actually an extra adapter for the bottom so it looks like if your phone's not tall enough you can pop this out and stick this one in instead raise it up a little bit alright so actually this consists of two main pieces you have this organizational section here which has a slot for your ipad to rest and then a slot for your macbook to go and it's got some padding you know it's gonna keep things nice and protected and then you've got this qi wireless charging section as for your phone and for your airpods and the cool thing is that these go together magnetically like that and you don't have to use it like that but you can so it's very adaptable if you want to the main benefit here is that you're going to be able to organize and charge everything in one little spot on your desk so instead of having a bunch of clutter everywhere you just have this one solution for organizing and charging pretty cool so how strong is the magnet that would be a good question well uh you know i can rip that apart with one hand so it's uh it's there it's gonna keep things in place but it's not gonna fight you if you wanna take this front section off and actually i would say the organizational piece that's a bit heavier than this piece all right now before i load this up with items i just want to compare and contrast it to another solution that i've been using for a while from satecki now you might have seen me mention this sateki hub and stand before it's got some usb ports some usb c ports it's got one two three four different bays so you can slot in some ipads or some iphones and then it's got a wireless charging port over here with just one and so the idea is you plug in this one thing and charge everything up now in and of itself it's pretty good at what it does it's a multi-port charger and it actually charges those things really nicely the problem is when things are charging here they're not very usable and so this is something that i've just set off in the corner of the office and when things are on there getting charged i don't actually interact with them i can't actually use them and that's completely fine when i'm charging up an external power bank like this you know i can stash it here and forget about it until i need it but by contrast i can stick my phone here my airpods here i can stick my macbook in the back and this is the 16 inch and it fits just fine and then i can stick my ipad right here and that just kind of leans up against the mac that's what it's designed to do whereas with this when my phone's charging it's flat and i can't see it over here the phone is up it's looking at me it's facing me so it's already more useful there if i want to look at notifications even do a facetime call or something that's just going to be much more useful also if this is off in the corner of the office somewhere and i'm charging up my airpods i gotta walk over and grab it go back to the desk whereas this is just here it's waiting for me also because this only has one qi wireless charging area if i'm using my phone on it then i can't put the airpods there or vice versa but here there's plenty of wireless power to go around real quick let me just say if you're liking the vibe of this video if you like discovering useful new accessories for your apple products then why not take this opportunity to hit subscribe because there's always more on the way and i don't want you to miss out now before we even get any further just look how compact this is there's so much tech fit into such a small little area it's kind of blowing my mind here because this is so organized so up in my office i've got a decent amount of desk space i've got an ultra wide monitor and usually i've got my macbook just sitting kind of off in the top right corner in clamshell mode so it's closed and it's hooked up to the monitor and that's how i interact with it but i pictured this the studio caddy sitting there where that mac usually goes and i can still plug into my monitor no problem there have access to the ports so i can get those dongles going insert my memory cards and stuff but then i can also charge up the ipad no problem and if i want to i can choose to interact with it in a vertical fashion as well so if i don't want it to just be horizontal it can be vertical cool and obviously that could come into play for somebody if they're wanting to do some face time some zoom the ability to use this however you want to is really nice and again just like with the air pods if i've got an ipad charging here off in the corner of the office that's kind of a pain to have to go get it and then come back and get busy with it whereas here it's just charging right in front of my face everything right in front of my face and you know what i don't miss that i can't charge my apple watch here like i could with the studio dock when i'm at the desk i use the apple watch to automatically log in to the mac for instance so i'm actually glad that they didn't try to force some sort of apple watch charging into this setup all right so i'm going to turn this around and you pretend that you're sitting at your desk you got this in front of you right and maybe you want the mac and the ipad just off somewhere else and you don't need all this to actually be in the exact same spot well you can actually just take this off and drag it wherever you want make it a little bit closer because the power cord actually plugs in right around the side here just like that all right so now it's all plugged in and something to understand is that what's actually being charged here right out of the box is the phone and the airpods so the qi wireless charging works right out of the box you'll need to supply your own cables and those can hook into the side and the ports there for charging your macbook or your ipad so it's really great that you can charge everything right there but if you're somebody like me and you're using an external monitor maybe that monitor powers the mac you know that's one way to do it but it's totally flexible so that's great or for that matter you may have any number of accessories like an external drive slash hub that's something else that i've got up on the desk so you can power the various components here in many different ways it's just kind of up to you but this will fit into and slot into whatever setup you've got really easily really nicely now just in case you're wondering if you can charge your phone in a case let's test it out the box says yes and yes you can that's great and just in case you haven't noticed i do have my air pods in a case and let's see if that charges as well yep that charge is in the case no problem but maybe you don't need to see the screen of your ipad you literally just need a place to charge it and maybe you use it with the magic keyboard which i got a report actually picked up some color i don't know if you guys can see that and actually i've just left it on there to show you i was going to give you a report yeah the white's going to get a little bit dirty but i can scratch it off with my fingernail so not the end of the world all right so the ipad's back in this magic keyboard and i want to see if that can fit in here too and yeah it does so if you're the type of person who just stashes your ipad with this magic keyboard while it's charging but you want it to be close so you can just unplug it and get back to work then this is probably an ideal solution for that too so it's not like you can just buy this and all your charging worries disappear but it absolutely handles a lot of the logistics and let's just be honest it looks great i love the way that it looks it just makes everything feel a lot more organized whereas when you're using a solution like this things feel very cluttered it works it gets the job done and in and of itself is not ugly but once everything's on here it just doesn't have the same aesthetic as something like this studio caddy now this thing costs 179 bucks not cheap by any stretch of the imagination but i will say it does feel premium it doesn't feel like something that's cheap that you got off of amazon it was a knockoff type of brand this feels like a quality product that's going to last for years and years and years now for the ipad users out there obviously the phone charger is going to get in the way if you have these magnetically connected so that's another reason why i like being able to take this off and get that full screen access but then at the end of the day when you're done working and everything just needs a charge get ready for the next day you can go ahead and snap this back in place now the thing to point out for mac users is that you basically if you're buying this you're planning on using this in clamshell mode you're going to have this folded up and you're going to use the ports on the side obviously you're not going to be able to take advantage of the screen real estate both on your external monitor and on the screen on your macbook itself right at the same time for me that's how i use it anyway so that's a no-brainer i use my mac in clamshell mode at the back of my desk i use my ipad in the magic keyboard to be my mobile roving device i'll take it with me to other parts of the house or if i get out of the house and need to work at the coffee shop or go to a meeting or something now after having used this for a while i can say that i absolutely love the organization and for me that makes this product worth it it's the greatest feature and in reality i haven't actually ended up detaching the wireless charging portion of the product and moving it all around the desk all that often i actually mostly just keep it all attached together and looking nice and also in theory it's great to be able to move this around the desk as needed but in practice i found that that power cord sticking out and kind of sprawling across the desk that's kind of annoying so if you're a neat freak maybe that's something to consider also for me in my situation where i've got this placed behind my ultra wide monitor it isn't as convenient as i might have liked getting the ipad and putting it back just because my monitor is right there getting in the way it's not a deal killer but it's just something to think about the placement and the last thing after actually using this at the desk is that i kind of find myself wishing kensington would make a future version that would somehow let me store and charge my airpods max while maintaining this instagram-worthy aesthetic oh and one more thing surprisingly i found it more convenient to access the ports on my mac and use things like dongles and accessories just because it's propped up off the desk and everything's a little easier to reach so this is an incredible setup but it's definitely not for everybody who is it for i think if you're really into that instagram desk setup look where things are just neat and organized and somehow still functional because no one's desk really looks like that in real life right it's messy life is messy work is messy but still if you like that organizational aspect and just the way that things look if you just really enjoy a really high quality cool accessory this is for you on the other hand if you do tend to be more utilitarian and you just want something to charge multiple devices and yeah the organization it looks that's great this could be for you or maybe not with something like this a techie hub you can fit three or four ipads at once or you know the whole family's iphones there if you want to so it really just comes down to what you need so i'll put two links down in the description for you a link to the studio caddy and to the sateki hub here and maybe to one or two other similar devices if i find them if you really want to shop the alternatives but if you're new around here i want to take the opportunity to invite you to come hang out with me on the podcast that happens weekly on fridays and we talk about apple we talk about tech behind the scenes stuff here it's just kind of a hangout so if you're looking for
