**Unpopular Opinions: A Book Tag**
In this episode of unpopular opinions, we're talking about books that don't quite live up to our expectations. From authors who just can't seem to capture the magic on page, to popular series that have us checking our "to-read" lists without much enthusiasm.
For me, it all started with a popular author who I just couldn't get into. She was okay in the first book, but then she seemed to take a nosedive into wishy-washiness and I just lost interest. I've talked about this topic before, and I'm not ashamed to say that I won't bore you with it again. The question is, what popular author can't seem to win us over? For me, the answer is Scott Westerfeld. I know he's a very popular author, having written The Ugly series and other books like The Voodoo Child (which, admittedly, I haven't even bothered to read). But there was something about his writing that just didn't click with me. I remember finishing Uglies a long time ago and feeling like it just didn't do it for me. Despite knowing that many people love his work, I just can't seem to get on board.
Another popular series that I've never been keen on is the Vampire Academy series by Richelle Mead. Now, before you start liking my opinion, hear me out - I think this series is actually really great, especially the last book I read in it! But despite being a fan of the final installment, I just can't muster up the enthusiasm to finish the rest of the series. There's something about reading seven books that seems daunting, and right now, I just don't feel like diving back into it. Maybe one day I'll get around to finishing the series, but for now, I'm content with having read only three.
It's also worth mentioning that there are certain plot devices or tropes in YA fiction that just can't hold my interest. For me, this is love triangles - and not just because they're a tired trope, but because they always seem to fall flat when executed poorly. When done right, I'm happy for the couple, but when it comes down to it, I usually end up rooting for one of the boys over the other. This isn't because I have any personal stake in their relationship, but rather because I just don't enjoy seeing these internal struggles play out on page.
In fact, I've lost count of how many popular YA series feature love triangles. Series like Twilight and The Infernal Devices have both had extensive love triangles that seemed to go on forever. While I do appreciate the boys in each of these stories - especially Will Herondale from The Infernal Devices - when it comes down to it, I just don't enjoy seeing these internal struggles play out.
So there you have it - my unpopular opinions on popular books and series. What about you? Do you agree with me, or do you think I'm being too harsh? Let's get the conversation started in the comments below!
**Question 6: A Series That Doesn't Hold My Interest**
For this question, we asked our readers to share a popular series that they just can't seem to get excited about. And what did we get back?
Well, it turns out that many of you are tired of love triangles too - and I'm not alone in feeling this way! For me, the answer is pretty straightforward: I'm over love triangles. I know some of you might be thinking, "But aren't they just a part of life?" And to that, I say... no. As someone who usually falls for one side or another (and rarely strays from it), I can honestly say that I've never enjoyed seeing these internal struggles play out on page.
Now, before anyone gets too upset - I do appreciate the boys in each of these stories! But when it comes down to it, I just don't enjoy seeing these love triangles. And even though some of you might disagree, I'm not ashamed to say that I'll keep rooting for my usual guy (no matter who else is on the scene).
But enough about me - what about you? Is there a series that's just not holding your interest right now? Let us know in the comments below!
**Question 7: A Popular Series That Doesn't Hold My Interest**
For this question, we asked our readers to share a popular series that they're just not feeling anymore. And what did we get back?
Well, it turns out that many of you are feeling a similar way about one particular series - the Vampire Academy series by Richelle Mead. I'm going to say it straight out: I've never been a fan of this series. I know some of you might disagree, but for me, there's just something about the books that doesn't hold my interest.
Now, before anyone gets too upset - I do think that the TV show adaptation is kind of entertaining! But when it comes to the actual books... not so much. There's just something about reading seven books that seems daunting, and right now, I'm content with having read only three (and probably will stop there).
But enough about me - what about you? Is there a series that's just not holding your interest right now? Let us know in the comments below!
**Question 8: A Popular Author Who Can't Hold My Interest**
For this question, we asked our readers to share a popular author who they just can't seem to get excited about. And what did we get back?
Well, it turns out that many of you are feeling a similar way about one particular author - Scott Westerfeld! I'm not going to lie, I've never been a fan of this guy's writing style. While he's certainly talented, there's just something about his books that doesn't hold my interest.
Now, before anyone gets too upset - I know some of you might be thinking, "But what about Uglies?" And while that book was actually pretty good... the rest of Westerfeld's work hasn't held my attention. Maybe one day I'll get around to finishing The Voodoo Child (but until then, I'm good).
