A DIY Project to Bring Together a Room's Aesthetic
As we sat in our living room, surrounded by half-finished projects and paint-splattered canvases, my partner and I started brainstorming ways to tie together the various elements of this space. We decided to put a picture frame around a beautiful piece of art that had been sitting on an easel, and then create a gallery wall around it. The frame was going to be adorned with flowers, adding a pop of color and whimsy to the room.
The idea for the frame's design came from a conversation we'd previously had about using baking soda, paint, and other household items to create unique art pieces. We thought that by combining these elements, we could create something truly one-of-a-kind. As we worked on adding sand and a sprinkle of glitter to the mixture, I couldn't help but feel a sense of excitement and anticipation.
The test cabinet had been a topic of discussion for quite some time, with my partner insisting that we not play favorites with our kids, whether it was in terms of who got to use which room or what activities they could participate in. We ultimately decided to create a separate space for our children, one that would be both functional and fun.
With the front of the house finally complete, I couldn't help but feel a sense of pride and accomplishment. The transformation had been nothing short of remarkable, with the addition of fresh flowers, foliage, and other decorative elements adding a touch of elegance to the space. As we stood back to admire our handiwork, I turned to my partner and said, "I love it!" The blue color palette had come together beautifully, giving way to a warm and inviting atmosphere that felt both calming and uplifting.
One of the standout features of this room was the DIY table, which had been created using reclaimed wood and a few simple tools. It added a touch of rustic charm to the space, while also providing ample surface area for working on projects or enjoying a cup of coffee. The mirror above the table added a sense of depth and dimension, while the wallpaper in the corner provided a fun pop of color.
As we continued to work on this room, my partner and I found ourselves getting lost in conversation about everything from art and design to life and love. It was moments like these that reminded me why I had fallen in love with this project in the first place – it wasn't just about creating something beautiful, but also about building a home together.
The next piece of our puzzle came in the form of the coffee table nesting tables. We were using a mix of materials, including marble and fluted glass, to create a unique and eye-catching design that would add visual interest to the room. As we worked on adding the finishing touches, I couldn't help but feel a sense of excitement about what was to come.
With the addition of these new pieces, our living room began to take shape. The rug added warmth and texture to the space, while the fresh flowers and foliage brought in a touch of nature. It was as if the room had come alive, and I couldn't wait to see how it all came together.
As we stood back to admire our handiwork, my partner turned to me and said, "I'm so happy with how it looks." The blue color palette had worked beautifully, giving way to a warm and inviting atmosphere that felt both calming and uplifting. I couldn't agree more – this room was truly one of our favorites.
The final piece of the puzzle came in the form of a beautiful moon phase piece that would be hung above a large window. It added a touch of celestial magic to the space, while also bringing in a sense of softness and serenity. As we worked on adding the finishing touches, I couldn't help but feel a sense of awe at the beauty of it all.
With each passing day, our living room continued to evolve and take shape. It was a journey that had been both challenging and rewarding, filled with moments of triumph and laughter along the way. And as we stood back to admire our handiwork, I couldn't help but feel a sense of pride and accomplishment – we had created something truly special.
"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: entoday is the day i've been looking forward to ever since we moved into our island fixer-upper we are going to actually finally finish the heart of our home the living room and dining room as part of our phase one decorating if you've been following along you know we were able to get some of our furniture shipped over from the mainland oh no we got it unlocked we didn't get it open and that dining table we salvaged from the thrift store and attempted to diy it has been haunting me oh my gosh what can you like wipe that in but nonetheless i am determined to finish these rooms today i have been getting so much inspiration from our surroundings with the beach and nature and i'm so excited for you to finally see how our vision for this room is going to come together this is going to look like and that's what i wanted to look like stay tuned until the end for the final reveal i'm kate i'm joey and this is the story of us creating our dream home on an islandthe tide is out the best time tothat's from like a uh an anchor from a boat i know that's a huge chain found treasure i think we're good for today's forage let's go get some dinneroh wait can we tilt it up no just crouch down because i needed i need to tell you about this mirror so see there's like you know kind of chunks missing it already has this like sort of you think they're trying to make it look rusty right yeah it's pretty hideous yeah it's pretty hideous remember when we were on the beach and moon found that old anchor chain it had like barnacles on it and stuff like it was like had been living in the water i want to go to like the total other like just go like to the max with it so i'm thinking we can add our like driftwood pieces and stuff that we found some found like coral pieces you know i could even use some more of that plaster of paris because i have some more plastered pairs from the dining table to just add like more gunk to it and i'm gonna paint it with some actual sand too it's not like something my grandma would have in our florida condo no this is gonna look like and that's what i wanted to look like like interesting like sculptural captain i think i can pull that off for you you need something to look like i'm your guy hello i am here to talk about one of my favorite topics ever and that is therapy talk therapy i have personally gone to therapy since high school i started going as a response to a traumatic event that i went through and then i continued it throughout my years in college figuring out what i wanted to do my relationship deserve to have your best mental health year yet thanks better help so i think what i'm going to do first is mix up a little bit of this plaster of paris and get it like gunkier in spots you know dredged from the sea calcified barnacles we got all this coral rock i've got some driftwood pieces i might add and then i've got a little mixing bowl of sand maybe with a little bit of like chalk spray paint over it we'll see what we gotsoall right so today we're doing our very large living dining sort of open floor plan area obviously there's this nice area in front of this picture window that looks out on the pool and on the ocean and that's going to be like our main conversation area in the living room but then there's also this like back section yeah we got to figure out what we're going to do with it so i think we're going to make it like kind of the cozy tv nook and the way we're going to delineate the spaces is we're going to use a sample from our upcoming peel and stick wallpaper line this is a really cool like grid palm print and it's really easy to install you just take off the backing and stick it to your wall i do recommend you use a level to mark your lines as you're going that'll help make any patterns line upoh my gosh it's gonna look so good all right we are back here with this table i have diy this to death and i don't like it i don't like how this faux finish came out to me it actually looks like our old living and dining room walls in our first home omg about a house remember that that we made fun of those we said it looked like baby poop and we painted over it i feel like i recreated it here on the dining table so haha joke's on me i was thinking you know what i'm inspired by this bowl i'm gonna go with this inspo i'm gonna go in with just some off-white white colors acrylic paint matte finish some of you might like it some of you might still hate it but you know what that's what makes the world go round i guess let's see am i okayso then final step we have the little bits of the kind of speckling here i have this very like watery gray color and this kind of like loose bristled brush so here we go all right guys today we're showing you the mr kate daphne tv console super easy to install very attractive for your media console needswhat do we use with our screwsi'm whispering to youour other option is to use three quarter inch thick screws and assume that it's a very light tv and it'll stay up what do you think is that a good idea or a bad idea that's a bad idea probably a bad idea you're right we need that one okay so in this back tv space i'm using one of these really cool frame tvs it's basically gonna go up on the wall like a normal tv but it's completely flush mount and then i'll be able to put a picture frame around it and then we're gonna make sort of a gallery wall around thatokaywhat are you painting i'm thinking of flowers you know what i have i have a big apple juice jug we can paint and make it look like a cool vase for maybe some driftwood or something you wanna help me do that yeah let's do that let's do that can you add some sand a sprinkle of sandthis is a variation on the baking soda baking powder and paint trick i think it'll probably work the same way does this look cool nowait can i have a kidall right guys this is the test cabinet i don't want to play favorites with our kids not you kids girls or kids this is definitely one of my favorite pieces we've made so far i love the great the black it's just chic good storage great for living room great for a play room great for bedroom it's great anywaythere's a lower pile and a higher pile we really completed the blue story in here with this rug so you guys can click the link in the description and you can buy a mr kate ruglook at how cool our diy jug turned outthrow pillows really kind of like rumpled worn in looking just being caught where's moon i love driftwood and obviously we can collect it here on the beach which we have been and it's just cool that it's been tumbled around in the ocean and it's gone through so much and it's better for it i feel like it's a great life motto so if you remember from our house in los angeles we had that really large scale artwork that moon actually painted because i mean it's such a glorious awesome piece we have to celebrate it so it's just gonna go perfect right next to that gigantic picture window to bring in a little softness and raise the eye up in this room that has sort of low ceilings we're using some linen curtains hanging them on the pre-existing tracks and little rings and they look so dreamy we're also working in some of our moon phases nesting tables we've got end tables that are a little bit taller and then a set of coffee table nesting tables the smaller lower one is a round one with a marble finish and then the half moon crescent is fluted glass over top so you can see the one underneathso this is the same rock that we're using over in that conversation area but this is the white version i thought it would be like just kind of a fun play on the fact that we have two different conversation areas in one room to use the same rugcreating a somewhat minimal gallery arrangement around this frame tv we are using some of our upcoming soon to be released mr gate artwork pieces and a variety of framesyeah oh gosh it used to be so late obviously it's wonderful to decorate with fresh flowers and foliage when you can and we have so many palm trees growing outside so i trimmed some palm leaves i love how architectural they look wow we have come a long way with the front of this house i'm so excited that we finally have it done if you remember what it looked like when we first moved in hereah you guys our living room dining room is done i am so happy with how it looks it's just this is such an important room in the house because literally we spend like all of our time here this is where the view to the beautiful ocean is so i'm thrilled with how the blue color palette came together giving way to like our yellow moment the diy table and i love my mirror and then the wallpaper in that corner i mean it's just really been so fun to map out this room and have the different conversation area so anyways i'm thrilled with it i hope you guys love it thank you for watching we'll see you next time we have more rooms to do what yikes\n"
