The Art of Cutting Your Own Rib Steaks from a Roast: A Step-by-Step Guide

When it comes to cooking delicious rib steaks, many people assume that you need to buy pre-cut steaks from the butcher. However, with a little bit of knowledge and some basic tools, you can cut your own rib steaks from a roast and save money in the process. As seen in our latest video, we're going to show you how to do just that.

The first step is to select a good quality rib roast. Look for one that's packed with meat and has a good marbling score, as this will ensure that your steaks are tender and flavorful. Once you've got your roast, it's time to get started on the cutting process. We use an old hickory saw to cut our steaks, but feel free to use a band saw or any other tool that you're comfortable with.

To start, we locate the location of the bone cuts on the rib roast. These are usually marked on the meat, and they indicate where the bones will be located once the steak is cooked. We then use the hickory saw to cut along these lines, creating a full width of steak from the roast. It's worth noting that the quality of your steak will depend on how evenly you can cut it, so take your time and make sure each cut is smooth and even.

Once we've got our steaks cut out, we're ready to season them. We use a combination of salt, pepper, and any other herbs or spices that we like, to give our steaks a good flavor. It's worth noting that the quality of your seasoning will depend on how well you can cook your steak, so take your time and experiment with different seasonings until you find one that works for you.

With our steaks seasoned, it's now time to get them cooked. We're using a grill to cook our steaks, but feel free to use any other cooking method that you prefer. To start, we preheat the grill to medium heat and add a little bit of oil to each side of the steak. Once the grill is hot, we place the steak on it and close the lid.

As we wait for the steak to cook, we let it sit for about 10 minutes before flipping it over. This allows the juices inside the steak to redistribute, which helps to create a tender and flavorful final product. We also use this time to check on the temperature of the steak, making sure that it reaches our desired level of doneness.

Once we're ready to serve, we remove the steak from the grill and let it rest for a few minutes before slicing it up. This allows the juices inside the steak to redistribute again, which helps to create a tender and flavorful final product.

Throughout this process, we've emphasized the importance of patience and attention to detail. Cutting your own rib steaks from a roast may seem like a daunting task at first, but with practice and experience, you'll be able to produce delicious results that will impress even the most discerning diners.
