Transferring Launch Box to an External Drive: A Portable Solution
In this video, we're going to explore how to transfer the Launch Box build to an external drive, making it portable and allowing us to run it on any X86 PC. As we'll see, this process is relatively straightforward, and with a few simple steps, we can have our favorite emulators up and running from a portable drive.
The Build: A Small but Mighty Folder
First things first, let's take a look at the size of our Launch Box build folder. According to the video, this particular build weighs in at just 95 games, which is incredibly small compared to some of the other builds out there. This means that we have plenty of room on our external drive for all of our emulators and games.
Moving to an External Drive
To transfer our Launch Box build to an external drive, we'll need to open up a new window and navigate to the folder location on our PC. We've chosen to move our Launch Box folder from the C:\Users\Username\LaunchBox folder on our PC to the root of our external drive. This allows us to access all of our emulators and games from the portable drive.
Downloading .NET Core 3.1
Before we can transfer our Launch Box build to an external drive, we'll need to download a few additional files. In this case, we're going to download .NET Core 3.1, which is required for Launch Box to run on certain PCs. This will ensure that we have everything we need to get up and running with our emulators.
Installing the Portable Version
Once we've downloaded .NET Core 3.1, we can proceed with transferring our Launch Box build to an external drive. We'll place the portable version of Launch Box in a new window, along with the downloaded .NET Core files. This will allow us to run Launch Box from our external drive without any issues.

Since we've already downloaded it on a separate machine and placed it in the external drive's root folder, we can simply click "yes" and follow through with the installation process. Once installed, we can launch Launch Box and start playing our favorite emulators.
Testing Big Box
Finally, let's not forget about Big Box, which is included as part of the Launch Box package. As a premium user, we have access to Big Box, and can run it from the same external drive as Launch Box. We'll simply navigate to the Big Box folder in our portable drive and start up the application.

going to show you how to get everything transferred over to an external drive to keep it nice and portable all right so i've just moved over to the pc i have launchbox installed on this is actually the build that i want to transfer to an external drive to make it portable this one's quite small i just built it for this video we only have 95 games first things first let's go ahead and close launch box down i would highly suggest just checking the size of your launch box bill we can actually do that by going to our c drive or wherever you install launch box to users user name launch box i'm going to right click properties here and this one's only 15.8 gigabytes so this folder here is what we need to transfer to the external drive and i definitely have enough room on my external drive so you really need to check that first because these can get quite large now as we saw in the beginning of the video i have a portable one terabyte drive i've just named it kingston it's drive d and i definitely have enough room we've got a ton free on here so go to properties yeah i've got 852 gigabytes free and basically what i want to do is transfer that launch box folder over to my external drive so what i'm going to do is open this up in a new window i'm going to snap my external drive over to the right hand side and i'm going to find my launch box folder on my pc so we'll go to our c drive users username launch box and i'm going to drag it right over here so while that's transferring over there's one thing i suggest downloading just to make sure that launchbox will run on the pc we're gonna move over to and that's gonna be dotnet core 3.1 so when we run launchbox for the first time on a pc will ask us if we want to download this but just in case you don't have internet access like you're running this on an arcade cabinet with no ethernet or wi-fi we will have this application so we can manually install it but since we want to keep launchbox portable on that drive i suggest downloading this i'm going to go with the 64-bit version and we want the windows version so go x64 it's going to download for me and i'm just going to place it right on my desktop so now we have our launch box build transferred over to our external drive we're just going to open this up on the external drive we're going to place this right in the root folder that way we always have access to it now this is really just in case you don't have internet access but it's always good practice to have this on hand so we can just place it right on that external drive with our launch box build so now that we have launch box and big box on our external drive i'm going to go ahead and move over to another pc that i've never installed launch box on in the past and the way we have the external drive set up right now we can run launch box and big box directly from that drive i'm just gonna grab that drive we transferred everything over to and plug it right into one of the usb ports here and like i
