shots time-lapse panorama auto focusing speed so get our popcorn ready although snacks all those drinks because you'll need those for this video sit back relax and let's have a look which one is a smartphone camera king of 2018 and we're going to start us off with some HDR shots taken with the back facing camera also speaking of the HR section of this video I know the weather hasn't been the best it's been really cloudy and rainy for the past few days and it seems to be like that for another week or so or even more so yeah pretty much all shots were taken in those lighting conditions and first off we have this wide-angle shot of this bridge here and in this one I do like the pixel more than the no.9 it's got a more warmer tint compared to the cooler one that the no.9 has but it is more similar to how it looked like in real life also the pixel captures more detail in the clouds some of them actually got blown out on the no nine shot and same applies to the water which is brighter and the reflections are way more visible as well next up we have this very reflective building here HDR shot on both here and I do prefer the pixel notice how it manages to get the clouds perfectly exposed and the entire image is way more even than on the note the note 9 is brighter also wider than a pixel in terms of the viewing angle and if you take a look at a brickwork it's more sharp print and post and now we have a close-up HDR shots and here I do prefer the background of the no.9 how everything is in focus and how the sky is lit up but I do prefer the bottom portion of the pixel freeze image the no.9 is not as sharp and also a bit too bright especially since this was actually in shadow so a mix between the two would have been the perfect shot next up we have the macro test so here I think the shot with a main module not a zoom lens from the exact same distance and here in a pixel 3 nails a light better so everything is more uniform but a cactus itself is out of focus on the top portion whereas the no 9 got everything sharp and clear so the no 9 takes this one moving on to the zoom section of this video now I know the pixel 3 doesn't have a second module however it still has so doesn't have optical zoom but it still has something called super resume so essentially enhanced digital zoom so Google's image algorithms approximated pixels that are missing and they try to recreate the original image even when it's zoomed in at least that's in theory so let's see how well it works if it does work and and his first image it looks quite similar on both until you zoom in so here you can see how much sharper the no.9 is thanks to the optical zoom done by ii telephoto module as opposed to the digital enhanced zoom that we got with the pixel 3 so lots of noise on a pixel visible on both the building and the sky the no 9 definitely takes this one in second image we have this yellow boy here roar and and this one a pixel three exposes everything so much better also the colors are more true to life and more similar as to how they were in real life the no nine is brighter though and the colors are more vibrant so yeah let me know the comments which one do you prefer in this case now if you want to videos taking with the back facing camera so the pixel three can do 4k at 30 frames per second at calvi 4k 60 which is a bit strange because it has the same processor as all the other phones this time dragon 845 that can already do 4k 6009 can be 4k 60 now in terms of the bitrate we have 72 megabits per second on the no 9 and the pixel 3 as 48 megabits per second which is actually the exact same bit rates as on a pixel to excel and in terms of the video itself the colors are a bit more flat on the pixel versus the notes the note is a bit wider when it comes to the viewing angle now just take a look at how much sharper everything is on the note again it seems to be doing way more processing in post then the pixel is now in terms of which one is better the no 9 is darker but a pixel 3 is brighter I do prefer to pixel in terms of the color and the brightness but I know 9 at the same time as twice more fluid with 4k 60 versus 4k 30 now in a pixel 3 can actually do HDR video in 4k 30 and I'm guessing this is the reason why it doesn't do 4k 60 video because it doesn't have the processing power to do 4k 60 HDR video and Google probably wanted everything to be consistent HR video and all the modes so that is why in this one we're going to do an HDR video test 4k 30 on both and here they look pretty much identical I was surprised to see how close they actually wore that one difference would be insures the sharpness 1009 is much sharper than a pixel 3 is take a look at the trees in the background the sky is very well exposed on both and same applies to the darker portion of this video so we get almost the exact same shade of colors on each video which is quite interesting now once we get to the very end of the clip the pixel 3 does have this very weird hazy look to it pink hazy look where as the no 9 is definitely sharper not sure what's causing this cloudy look though now moving on to the stabilization test this was shot in 4k 60 on the No 9 and 4k 30 on a pixel 3 because that's the highest it can do and Wow take a look at how much more stable the pixel 3 is that's that's very impressive it looks as if it was on a gimbal and it actually wasn't very room stabilization walking on the pixel 3 and the no 9 isn't really doing a bad job either I really don't know what happened to the pixel but a shot itself in terms of the color in the exposure it's so so overexposed the reds are all over the place and highlights or very blown out the notes also got the middle pavement part as dark as it was in real life now when it comes to me running the no 9 seems to do a better job not just in terms again of the exposure but keeping the shakiness to as low as possible now when it comes to auto focusing both are really really fast about the same I would say the biggest difference here is 4k 60 versus 4k 30 on a pixel and also take a look at how gradual the exposure is set on the sky on a pixel 3 versus the no 9 the pixel 3 doesn't really blow out the sky while exposing while the no 9 it seems to be doing just that overall you won't have any issues in terms of auto focusing on either of these phones because they're both really really fast so what about low-light Google said that a pixel 3 is the best smartphone when it comes to low-light photography so let's see how it compares to dono 9 now something that I want to mention is that the nitesite feature that they've showed that the event now on is an out yet that's coming out in the future update if we don't really know when so yeah all this was taken on auto on both of these phones and in his first shot both of them are really really good now the pixel 3 does have more noise in the sky compared to the notes but I do like the color of the water and the reflections more on a pixel 3 but then the no.9 gets the exposure of the lights on the bridge better then the pixel 3 does so the no 9 overall takes this one next up we have this shot of this building in some very low light conditions and here there's a massive difference between the two so look at that noise look at that noise on the pixel 3 and the plants are also not in focus on the 3 the sky and the entire image it has this red tint on the pixels so yeah here the no 9 is just worlds apart and then here we have the shot of this lamppost and here they're actually both really good now the no 9 has a warmer tint that pixel 3 is a bit too cold the ground is also a bit sharper on the node compared to the pixel but the main difference here is the white balance other than that they're pretty much identical so what about low-light but this time with the flash turned on so I took this shot especially since there was a really strong light source on the left hand side of the image and then the right-hand side was very dark so I wanted to see how they would both handle this and in this case we have another big difference between the so the pixel 3 has a much darker and also much more vibrant image versus the brighter one and the a bit more washed out one that the note has they both handle the light source on the left really well but a note over sharpens the leaves on the plant a bit too much so here actually to prefer the pixel so what about low-light with a zoom module now I know the pixel 3 doesn't have a zoom module but if you remember from the daytime zoom test it does have that super resum feature so let's see how that handles low-light images and here they both look really good the sky is quite a bit noisier on the pixel compared to the note but then the building itself is so much brighter and with less noise on the pixel so interesting enough the super resume that seemed to work in nighttime shots better than in daytime shots on a pixel 3 so that's quite impressive ok now moving on to video taken with a back facing camera in low-light and here they both look quite similar so the biggest difference is that we do get more noise on the pixel 3 and then the entire video looks a bit more purple and a bit too washed out when compared to 909 another big difference is in terms of how they both expose the strong lights so if you look at the lampposts the no.9 has a much better exposure as it doesn't really blow out the lights as much as the pixel 3 does this is even more noticeable towards the end of the video if you take a look at that wall-mounted lamp now moving on to the front-facing camera shots apologies for my hair all these were recorded during a storm so yeah it was really windy and rainy and here I took a number of shots by the way I chose the sharpest ones for both the pixel 3 and the now 9 and the pixel 3 is so much sharper the exposure is better than the No 9 and yeah the pixel 3 things this one also you can actually zoom out on the pixel and then it would use the second module that allows you to get a much wider angle on the entire scene so this is how that looks like so what about front-facing HDR while here the sky is actually blown out pretty badly on both the iPhone 10s actually from the previous video was the only one that managed to get that one exposed properly the no 9 is brighter here and the color is and the entire scene pops out way more but a pixel is more true to life so here actually prefer the no 9 but keep in mind that a pixel also has the 2nd module for that wide-angle shot when you need it in camera test between the Google pixel 3xl and a Samsung Galaxy Note 9 so this is the audio coming from the pixel 3 and this is the audio coming from the Samsung Galaxy Note 9 so yeah let me know which one sounds better which one looks better keep in mind that on the pixel I can also do a wide-angle video I cannot really switch to that because I'm holding both phones but you can go back to the images section and that's pretty much how it would look like but it's just a collar the exposure yeah let me know which one looks and sounds so we'll be onto front-facing low-light photo in this case there is a massive difference between the two the pixel 3 is so so much clearer the no 9 is very noisy so there's absolutely no comparison here the pixel 3 takes this one with flying colors and also take a look at this even with a second wide-angle module on the pixel 3 which by the way is worse in low-light than the main one even daolon still produces a better picture than the no 9 does okay now moving on to low-light with a front-facing camera with a front flash and this time I do like the no 9 a bit more the pixel freeze image is sharper and more in focus but then the no 9 lights up everything a bit more my hair for example is still visible whereas the pixel 3 almost merged I wanted with the actual background the sky between the pixel 3 Excel and the Samsung Galaxy Note 9 which one facing camera and low-light you know which one do you think looks better which one has less noise I think the pixel 3 looks better keep in mind that on a pixel 3 I can also zoom out and make the whole shot do you think looks and sounds better moving on to portrait mode with a front-facing camera while that brain really got to me and yeah here the BIG's of 3 Deathwing takes this one the no 9 same as with the iPhone tennis Mac's had this purple haze on the m8 not sure why by do I take the shot multiple times and the lenses were clear so it seems like they just handle the strong light very differently from one another and the pixel 3 takes this one obviously because it's much clearer and the exposure is so much better than no 9 is moving on to portrait mode but this time with the back facing camera and it seems like the no 9 did a much better job when it came to masking out the umbrella handle so yeah it's not perfect but it's really really close the no 9 is also sharper overall and for some reason the pixel blurred out my face a tiny bit however the pixel got the exposure much better the no 9 blew out almost everything in this shot even I am brighter I should be so yeah limited comments which wanted to prefer in this case now moving on to the panorama test the no nine had an eight point four megabytes sized image which was 26 mega pixels in size quite good the pixel three had a two megabytes image two megabytes and there was actually five mega pixels in size that's that's really low res and here's the thing I tried this multiple times and I don't know why but the panorama on a pixel three has always been really low res this is very visible if you zoom in a lot for example in the parking spot there's a night and day difference between the two same applies to the buildings in the distance so yeah massive difference in terms of the resolution the no.9 panorama is also brighter again a bit on the blue side whereas the pixel 3 is a bit more natural in terms of the color but yeah when it comes to the panorama the no.9 definitely takes this one in terms of both stitching and the clarity and the brightness okay so what about slow-motion well the pixel 3 CK 720p 240 frames per second video the audio was at 8 kilohertz by the way of sampling rates and the no 9 took a 720p 940 160 actually francs per second video with no audio at all now the no 9 can also do 1080p at 240 frames per second if you prefer that or at least it could do in the past Samsung removed the option to change that from the settings for some reason now in terms of slow-motion itself the no 9 is of course much slower than a pixel at 960 frames per second but then the pixel has the advantage in a resolution I will give this one actually - 909 since you know he can take when you take slow-motion video you want to take it as slow as possible however a huge downside to the No 9 is that it captures slow-motion automatically one of the text movement even in manual mode by the way even that one isn't fully manual and I tried taking this shot 6 times until the node 9 finally captured the right moment and this guy's was in a controlled environment so essentially I could repeat this as many times as I wanted but when you're out in the wild so to say you don't get a chance to do that and because of this I wouldn't recommend the no 9 for slow-motion to anyone there's because it randomly starts recording whenever the text movement and in most cases that movement is not the right movement that you want to capture and finally we have the time-lapse test and the no 9 and this one recorded at 1080p time-lapse at 30 frames per second but a bit rate of 14 in megabits per second that's really bad and here's the thing time lapses are actually easier to record on the processor and the memory than 4k 60 video is just because you take multiple images at specific intervals and then you can merge those images together after you've taken all the shots Samsung doesn't really do that so yeah that's why we have 1080p 30 video maybe it's actually a video and it's 1080p 30 because it records a video instead of taking multiple images and if you recorded you know a 4k 60 video over a period of a few hours you would run out of storage not so much but for widths nab 30 at a really low bitrate as you know 14 megabits per second is so yeah that's my theory but when it comes to Google well Google doesn't even let you record a time-lapse in the first place you cannot do that time lapses are not supported in any way on pixel phones okay so in the end which smartphone has a better camera is it a pixel 3xl or the Samsung Galaxy Note 9 well the pixel 3 definitely nails the front-facing camera in both daytime as well as low-light you also have that wide-angle the second module so front-facing camera at a pixel 3 deathly nails days now when it comes to low-light photography the no 9 takes this one the images were sharper with less noise and even brighter than on the pixel and same applies to video in low lights the no 9 took that one now in terms of daytime video the no 9 was indeed better being able to do 4k 60 video is a big plus and then a pixel 3 didn't have significantly better dynamic range due to that 4k 30 frames per second limitation anyways now I know there are a few issues with a pixel 3s camera app at the moment so like I said the nitesite feature isn't available yet so that will be coming in a future updates but we don't really know when and then when taking a panorama the pixel has been a hit and miss a lot of the times it wouldn't even process the panorama at all in the first place I mean take a look at this is been trying to process this and a few more Auto panoramas for like 30 minutes even more than that so at a pixel 3 you would definitely get better in the future with more software updates and I'm pretty confident that the panorama app would be would be fixed so yeah with high resolution and hopefully a time-lapse mode in the future as well that'll be awesome Google if you're watching this video please add time-lapse support and 4k be the first company to do that on a smartphone 4k time-lapses they'll be great so yeah overall the Notestine is better for a low-light video too three is better for front-facing camera shots as well as maintaining a natural color and exposure in the scene also I couldn't really show you guys any daytime shots and bright sunlight conditions because you know it's been cloudy for a few days now and it's going to be cloudy for the next week or so so yeah UK weather for the win I'll definitely be doing some HDR shots in the Sun as soon as soon as we get some Sun so to follow me on instagram at zone of tech for some behind the keeping the shakiness to as low as possible now when it comes to auto focusing both are really really fast about the same I would say the biggest difference here is 4k 60 versus 4k 30 on a pixel and also take a look at how gradual the exposure is set on the sky on a pixel 3 versus the no 9 the pixel 3 doesn't really blow out the sky while exposing while the no 9 it seems to be doing just that overall you won't have any issues in terms of auto focusing on either of these phones because they're both really really fast so what about low-light Google said that a pixel 3 is the best smartphone when it comes to low-light photography so let's see how it compares to dono 9 now something that I want to mention is that the nitesite feature that they've showed that the event now on is an out yet that's coming out in the future update if we don't really know when so yeah all this was taken on auto on both of these phones and in his first shot both of them are really really good now the pixel 3 does have more noise in the sky compared to the notes but I do like the color of the water and the reflections more on a pixel 3 but then the no.9 gets the exposure of the lights on the bridge better then the pixel 3 does so the no 9 overall takes this one next up we have this shot of this building in some very low light conditions and here there's a massive difference between the two so look at that noise look at that noise on the pixel 3 and the plants are also not in focus on the 3 the sky and the entire image it has this red tint on the pixels so yeah here the no 9 is just worlds apart and then here we have the shot of this lamppost and here they're actually both really good now the no 9 has a warmer tint that pixel 3 is a bit too cold the ground is also a bit sharper on the node compared to the pixel but the main difference here is the white balance other than that they're pretty much identical so what about low-light but this time with the flash turned on so I took this shot especially since there was a really strong light source on the left hand side of the image and then the right-hand side was very dark so I wanted to see how they would both handle this and in this case we have another big difference between the so the pixel 3 has a much darker and also much more vibrant image versus the brighter one and the a bit more washed out one that the note has they both handle the light source on the left really well but a note over sharpens the leaves on the plant a bit too much so here actually to prefer the pixel so what about low-light with a zoom module now I know the pixel 3 doesn't have a zoom module but if you remember from the daytime zoom test it does have that super resum feature so let's see how that handles low-light images and here they both look really good the sky is quite a bit noisier on the pixel compared to the note but then the building itself is so much brighter and with less noise on the pixel so interesting enough the super resume that seemed to work in nighttime shots better than in daytime shots on a pixel 3 so that's quite impressive ok now moving on to video taken with a back facing camera in low-light and here they both look quite similar so the biggest difference is that we do get more noise on the pixel 3 and then the entire video looks a bit more purple and a bit too washed out when compared to 909 another big difference is in terms of how they both expose the strong lights so if you look at the lampposts the no.9 has a much better exposure as it doesn't really blow out the lights as much as the pixel 3 does this is even more noticeable towards the end of the video if you take a look at that wall-mounted lamp now moving on to the front-facing camera shots apologies for my hair all these were recorded during a storm so yeah it was really windy and rainy and here I took a number of shots by the way I chose the sharpest ones for both the pixel 3 and the now 9 and the pixel 3 is so much sharper the exposure is better than the No 9 and yeah the pixel 3 things this one also you can actually zoom out on the pixel and then it would use the second module that allows you to get a much wider angle on the entire scene so this is how that looks like so what about front-facing HDR while here the sky is actually blown out pretty badly on both the iPhone 10s actually from the previous video was the only one that managed to get that one exposed properly the no 9 is brighter here and the color is and the entire scene pops out way more but a pixel is more true to life so here actually prefer the no 9 but keep in mind that a pixel also has the 2nd module for that wide-angle shot when you need it in camera test between the Google pixel 3xl and a Samsung Galaxy Note 9 so this is the audio coming from the pixel 3 and this is the audio coming from the Samsung Galaxy Note 9 so yeah let me know which one sounds better which one looks better keep in mind that on the pixel I can also do a wide-angle video I cannot really switch to that because I'm holding both phones but you can go back to the images section and that's pretty much how it would look like but it's just a collar the exposure yeah let me know which one looks and sounds so we'll be onto front-facing low-light photo in this case there is a massive difference between the two the pixel 3 is so so much clearer the no 9 is very noisy so there's absolutely no comparison here the pixel 3 takes this one with flying colors and also take a look at this even with a second wide-angle module on the pixel 3 which by the way is worse in low-light than the main one even daolon still produces a better picture than the no 9 does okay now moving on to low-light with a front-facing camera with a front flash and this time I do like the no 9 a bit more the pixel freeze image is sharper and more in focus but then the no 9 lights up everything a bit more my hair for example is still visible whereas the pixel 3 almost merged I wanted with the actual background the sky between the pixel 3 Excel and the Samsung Galaxy Note 9 which one facing camera and low-light you know which one do you think looks better which one has less noise I think the pixel 3 looks better keep in mind that on a pixel 3 I can also zoom out and make the whole shot do you think looks and sounds better moving on to portrait mode with a front-facing camera while that brain really got to me and yeah here the BIG's of 3 Deathwing takes this one the no 9 same as with the iPhone tennis Mac's had this purple haze on the m8 not sure why by do I take the shot multiple times and the lenses were clear so it seems like they just handle the strong light very differently from one another and the pixel 3 takes this one obviously because it's much clearer and the exposure is so much better than no 9 is moving on to portrait mode but this time with the back facing camera and it seems like the no 9 did a much better job when it came to masking out the umbrella handle so yeah it's not perfect but it's really really close the no 9 is also sharper overall and for some reason the pixel blurred out my face a tiny bit however the pixel got the exposure much better the no 9 blew out almost everything in this shot even I am brighter I should be so yeah limited comments which wanted to prefer in this case now moving on to the panorama test the no nine had an eight point four megabytes sized image which was 26 mega pixels in size quite good the pixel three had a two megabytes image two megabytes and there was actually five mega pixels in size that's that's really low res and here's the thing I tried this multiple times and I don't know why but the panorama on a pixel three has always been really low res this is very visible if you zoom in a lot for example in the parking spot there's a night and day difference between the two same applies to the buildings in the distance so yeah massive difference in terms of the resolution the no.9 panorama is also brighter again a bit on the blue side whereas the pixel 3 is a bit more natural in terms of the color but yeah when it comes to the panorama the no.9 definitely takes this one in terms of both stitching and the clarity and the brightness okay so what about slow-motion well the pixel 3 CK 720p 240 frames per second video the audio was at 8 kilohertz by the way of sampling rates and the no 9 took a 720p 940 160 actually francs per second video with no audio at all now the no 9 can also do 1080p at 240 frames per second if you prefer that or at least it could do in the past Samsung removed the option to change that from the settings for some reason now in terms of slow-motion itself the no 9 is of course much slower than a pixel at 960 frames per second but then the pixel has the advantage in a resolution I will give this one actually - 909 since you know he can take when you take slow-motion video you want to take it as slow as possible however a huge downside to the No 9 is that it captures slow-motion automatically one of the text movement even in manual mode by the way even that one isn't fully manual and I tried taking this shot 6 times until the node 9 finally captured the right moment and this guy's was in a controlled environment so essentially I could repeat this as many times as I wanted but when you're out in the wild so to say you don't get a chance to do that and because of this I wouldn't recommend the no 9 for slow-motion to anyone there's because it randomly starts recording whenever the text movement and in most cases that movement is not the right movement that you want to capture and finally we have the time-lapse test and the no 9 and this one recorded at 1080p time-lapse at 30 frames per second but a bit rate of 14 in megabits per second that's really bad and here's the thing time lapses are actually easier to record on the processor and the memory than 4k 60 video is just because you take multiple images at specific intervals and then you can merge those images together after you've taken all the shots Samsung doesn't really do that so yeah that's why we have 1080p 30 video maybe it's actually a video and it's 1080p 30 because it records a video instead of taking multiple images and if you recorded you know a 4k 60 video over a period of a few hours you would run out of storage not so much but for widths nab 30 at a really low bitrate as you know 14 megabits per second is so yeah that's my theory but when it comes to Google well Google doesn't even let you record a time-lapse in the first place you cannot do that time lapses are not supported in any way on pixel phones okay so in the end which smartphone has a better camera is it a pixel 3xl or the Samsung Galaxy Note 9 well the pixel 3 definitely nails the front-facing camera in both daytime as well as low-light you also have that wide-angle the second module so front-facing camera at a pixel 3 deathly nails days now when it comes to low-light photography the no 9 takes this one the images were sharper with less noise and even brighter than on the pixel and same applies to video in low lights the no 9 took that one now in terms of daytime video the no 9 was indeed better being able to do 4k 60 video is a big plus and then a pixel 3 didn't have significantly better dynamic range due to that 4k 30 frames per second limitation anyways now I know there are a few issues with a pixel 3s camera app at the moment so like I said the nitesite feature isn't available yet so that will be coming in a future updates but we don't really know when and then when taking a panorama the pixel has been a hit and miss a lot of the times it wouldn't even process the panorama at all in the first place I mean take a look at this is been trying to process this and a few more Auto panoramas for like 30 minutes even more than that so at a pixel 3 you would definitely get better in the future with more software updates and I'm pretty confident that the panorama app would be would be fixed so yeah with high resolution and hopefully a time-lapse mode in the future as well that'll be awesome Google if you're watching this video please add time-lapse support and 4k be the first company to do that on a smartphone 4k time-lapses they'll be great so yeah overall the Notestine is better for a low-light video too three is better for front-facing camera shots as well as maintaining a natural color and exposure in the scene also I couldn't really show you guys any daytime shots and bright sunlight conditions because you know it's been cloudy for a few days now and it's going to be cloudy for the next week or so so yeah UK weather for the win I'll definitely be doing some HDR shots in the Sun as soon as soon as we get some
