Sling TV vs DirecTV Now vs PS Vue (Apple TV)

into this category Direct TV now so one thing you need to know right off the bat is that none of these services are all aart services what does that mean that means you can't pick individual channels like I know you want to instead you have to pick from Channel bundles one good thing though is that all these services do offer 7-Day free trials so you can go in and test these out for yourself no strings attached now in this video I'm going to cover the highlights the main things that matter you can do more research if you want but we're going to start off by talking about pricing and channels now sling tv offers the cheapest bundle you can get 30 channels for $20 a month PlayStation view is going to give you 45 channels for $30 and then Direct TV now is going to give you 60 channels for $35 those are the base packages for all of these Services now of course you can get more expensive bundles that are going to add more channels on all of these services and there's also some extras and add-ons that you can purchase as well now I have to say that sling TV seems the most customizable and gives you a lot of bang for your buck in terms of being able to choose add-on packages for just about $5 per month that really tailor what you're getting to your tastes now the one exception is HBO because on sling TV and on Playstation view that's going to cost you an extra $15 per month whereas Direct TV Now is offering that for for just $5 now for live local channels it's more or less the same across the board but there's a big asterisk here it's going to be available in select cities only now something you're definitely going to want to pay attention to as you're making a decision here is simultaneous streaming PlayStation view wins in this category by far allowing you to stream in five different places at once now sling TV is only going to give you one stream unless you upgrade and in that case you'll get up to three simultaneous streams and then finally there's Direct TV now which is is only going to give you two simultaneous streams no matter what package you go with and now we get to something big DVR this is a big differentiator between these three services PlayStation view is the only service of the three that currently offers DVR capabilities which will allow you to record 500 shows and keep them for up to 28 days now a huge benefit here is that you can pause fast forward and Rewind any content and that includes fast forwarding through commercials now at the time of publishing this video Direct TV now and sling TV don't offer DVR functions although sling TV says that DVR is coming in December in beta now along the same lines Direct TV now is only going to let you pause content so there is no fast forward or rewind and sling TV on the other hand is only going to give you the ability to pause fast forward or rewind on select content now what about when it comes to On Demand content unfortunately this is kind of spotty it's a great area there is on demand content on all of these services but you don't really know what until you go go looking for it so you cannot assume that your favorite show is just going to be there for you on demand it varies by Network and channel it's just something that you have to investigate but I will say this about Direct TV now they do have a pretty big selection of On Demand movies and a lot of them are pretty good now when it comes to interfaces and usability I'm kind of torn here sling TV came along and the Apple TV interface is so much better than what you would get on other streaming devices and boxes still it has some quirks and honestly play station View and Direct TV now have some quirks of their own none of these Services is perfect but I will say they're all much better than cable so how about a few other noteworthy things that you should keep in mind Netflix style viewing profiles are only available on Playstation view so if you have different people in the house like kids and adults this is going to be a lot easier to manage content parental controls on the other hand are only available on sling TV and if you're looking for 5.1 surround sound that is only going to be an option on Direct TV now but again only on select content personally I dislike the fact that there's no CBS content on Direct TV now although they say that that could be coming in the future but I have to say this Direct TV Now is offering some pretty insane deals which are probably not going to last too long since the product just launched for one thing if you prepaid for 3 months they're going to give you a free Apple TV and you can currently get the go big plan for just $35 which is almost half off the normal price of $60 like I said I'm sure that these deals are not going to last so if you're looking for for the cheapest or the most customizable option I would say go with sling TV but if you have a large family or you need that DVR then go with PlayStation View and finally if live TV is your thing and you just want the most channels for the best price then check out Direct TV now definitely none of these services are perfect as is they've all managed to let me down in some way or another but again it's still much better than actual cable TV and I will say I expect them to all continue to improve as the competition continues to heat up all right guys
