10,000 watt-equivalent light you can use in your home! - Hive Lighting Booth

The Power of Plasma Lighting: Hive's Latest Innovation

As many of you know, we recently switched to LED lighting for the majority of our productions on Boll online is Tech Tips. We've also begun using Hive Lighting's Wasp Plasma Light for specific tasks around the office as noted in this fastest possible here. I was absolutely floored when I first heard about their newly announced plasma 1000 light, and it's my pleasure to introduce you to this game-changing technology.

Plasma lighting is a rapidly evolving field that converts Argon gas into a plasma, resulting in high output low power draw lighting fixtures. Hive has taken their plasma technology to the next level with the plasma 1000, which is five times brighter than their previous high output unit. To put this into perspective, Hive's Wasp light, which we've used on our Wow and recent Workshop videos, is equivalent to an A500 watt incandescent fixture. The plasma 1000, on the other hand, is equivalent to a nearly 10,000 watt incandescent fixture.

I had the opportunity to test out the plasma 1000 in various scenarios, including shining it onto a sign in the ceiling of the convention center. The results were impressive – properly exposed shots looked great, but when I shone the plasma 1000 on that spot, the exposure became overexposed by a full two stops of light. This not only highlights the power of this light source but also its potential for high-quality applications.

Now, you may be wondering why anyone would need such intense lighting capabilities. There are several scenarios where the plasma 1000's power comes in handy. For instance, it can provide sufficient illumination for slow-motion frame rates indoors, as most lights below half the power of the plasma 1000 won't cut it for such high settings. Additionally, this light is ideal for Ste photography, particularly at high shutter speeds in studio situations or outdoors, as it provides a constant source of light that showcases your lighting setup.

In terms of accessibility and practical applications, Hive's plasma 1000 represents a significant leap forward in plasma technology. The trend of lower power draw high output lights for production use is shifting the boundaries of what was previously considered "pro" equipment. This innovation puts content creators on the path to shooting situations that were once reserved for only the highest tier of productions.

Whether you're a seasoned pro or just starting out, plasma lighting is definitely worth keeping an eye on as it matures and becomes more accessible. As a result, we can expect to see even more powerful and practical applications emerge in the future.

A Big Thank You to Our Sponsors

We want to extend our gratitude to two of our sponsors who made this coverage possible: Sennheiser and Kingston.
