The New Google Nest Cam Battery: A Comprehensive Review
As I recently received my new Google Nest Cam Battery, I was excited to put it through its paces and see how it would perform compared to its predecessor. The camera itself is sleek and compact, with a weather-resistant design that makes it perfect for outdoor use. One of the standout features of this device is its integration into the Google Home app, which allows for seamless control and monitoring of the camera's various functions.
One of the things I appreciate most about the Nest Cam Battery is its ability to scroll through time-lapse footage with ease. This feature allows me to see the sun's movement across the sky in real-time, which is a great way to monitor wildlife or detect any potential security issues. However, as I noticed on my previous generation of nest cam, this feature does need some improvement. On the Google Home app, it takes a second to load when scrolling through the timeline, but once it's loaded, it works beautifully.
Another convenient feature of the Nest Cam Battery is its ability to stream live footage to compatible displays. With my Nest Tub Max display, I can see the live feed from the camera at any time, which is especially useful for keeping an eye on my front yard. While this feature does require a stable internet connection, it's worth noting that the display will stay up until you swipe it away or sometimes cancel out.
One of the most exciting features of the new Nest Cam Battery is its built-in microphone, which allows me to hear what's happening outside in real-time. This feature has been improved significantly compared to my previous generation of nest cameras, and I appreciate being able to communicate with family members or guests without having to leave the camera itself.
I've also had the opportunity to test the Nest Cam Battery for a week using its battery-powered option, which allows me to place the camera anywhere in my yard without worrying about running out of power. The battery life is impressive, and I appreciate the simplicity of just plugging it into a wall outlet or recharging it when needed.
One thing that's still unclear is how long the Nest Cam Battery will last on battery power. While Google has promised to improve this aspect, I'm eager to see if it can meet my expectations. However, even with this uncertainty, I love the option to plug it into a wall outlet and not have to worry about removing it to charge.
The Nest Cam Battery also retains some of its predecessor's features, such as 10-day video history. This allows me to review footage from the past week or ten days, which is useful for detecting potential security issues or monitoring wildlife activity.
One area where the new Nest Cam Battery falls short is in its compatibility with certain devices and platforms. Currently, it doesn't support viewing on Echo Show devices or Smart Things, although I'm hopeful that this will be addressed in future updates.
Overall, I'm extremely impressed with the Google Nest Cam Battery, which offers everything I need for a comprehensive security camera solution. Its integration into the Google Home app makes it easy to monitor and control, and its weather-resistant design ensures it can withstand even the toughest outdoor conditions.
"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enlook here we caught an animal let's check it out whose cat is that get off my yard after years of using the google nest outdoor cam and it's very long cable you can see it goes all the way over there google has finally come out with a new nest cam outdoor battery powered and today we're gonna see what it's all about let's get started and here is the new google nest cam thank you google for sending this over so that i could make this review now this does say outdoor or indoor and it does have battery power over here at the end but it is able to be wired as well where you can get an accessory and plug it in so that it can be wired outside now the design itself is very similar to the previous model there you have the camera and the light and then it does magnetize onto the plate there so this does have 1080p video with night vision it has phone alerts you can stream it from your phone as well as you have easy wire free installation and then down here it does say that there are shrog magnets in here so if you do have a pacemaker make sure that it does not come close to this device and there you can see you can check 24 7 through the app and security rain or shine so this is weather resistant now before we get this out of the box let's talk about what's included when you buy the camera and what you can add with a subscription so when you buy the camera for 180 or whatever it is where you live this includes alerts so you can get motion alerts people alerts animal alerts and vehicle alerts and then you get three hours of event history so video clips of events that happen now that's only the last three hours of time so if something happened four hours ago you could not see that and then you do have the option for 24 7 live streaming so that means you can view the camera at any time on your phone or if you have a google nest smart display you are able to view the camera there another feature that's included by purchasing this camera is it can record if your wi-fi goes out because it does have a battery included now it can record up to one hour of events when it does connect back to wi-fi it would then upload those to your account and then you can view those clips and download them to your device so if you do want to expand the three hour limit you have what's called nest aware so there are two plans and the great thing about these plans is it covers all of your google nest cameras so whether they're in the nest app or the google home app they will all be covered under one subscription so we have the nestor description six dollars a month it's going to give you 30 days of events so instead of just three hours you can go back 30 days and see those events it does not record everything that the camera sees just the events and then down at the bottom you have familiar face smoke alarm carbon monoxide alarm glass breaking you get those intelligent alerts then you have the nest aware plus plan this is 12 a month it includes 60 days of event history so i can go back two months and still see and download those events and then you do have the option for 24 7 video history so it will record consistently for the last 10 days when this camera is wired and it also includes those intelligent alerts like familiar faces smoke alarm carbon monoxide alarm and glass breaking so that is the two ways in which you can use this camera you just buy the camera and use what's included or you can enhance what's available with nest aware and i'll talk more about that during the video and lastly all of these events and recordings are stored on your google account so make sure your google account is secured with two-factor authentication for the best security and there is the camera that is actually pretty big compared to the previous model and that is a really strong magnet with the base plate there so there will be some more base plates that you can have this indoor as well and then there is the plug where if you wanted it to be wired um you would plug that in and there you have the microphone as well as you have a quarter inch tripod mount so that you could use other mounts to be able to mount this here we have some instructions it does come with a short power cable that you could use to turn this on inside and just use it indoor and then in here you do have a mount to be able to mount it outside and you have two screws as well as two anchors so we're gonna plug this into an outlet get it set up in the google home app and then we're going to add our camera now unlike previousness cameras that use the nest app this outdoor cam will use the google home app so we're going to head into the app i'm going to select plus then we're going to set up device and here we're going to choose new device select the home we want to add it to and we're going to choose camera and nest cam battery and then there's a qr code right on the front we're going to scan now if you don't have the qr code you can also tap continue without scanning and then there is a setup code on the bottom of the camera you can type in here to get it set up then we're going to choose the nest cam battery and make sure you subscribe so you'll see my nest cam with floodlight video once it's out and now it is going to connect to our nest cam so now we're just going to agree to the terms here are some usage guidelines about temperature and certain things so you can pause and read that if you want privacy guidelines we're going to agree to here you can agree to have diagnostics sent back to google but i'm going to say no thanks and it is a good idea to save the qr code sticker in the quick start guide in case you do need to find it later and then we're going to plug in our camera and charge it up while it's indoors now it does have a proprietary charging cable but i really like how it magnetizes in so that you quickly get a connection now we're going to choose where the camera is going so you have outdoors or indoors we're going to choose outdoors next it's going to connect to the camera and then we're going to add it to our wi-fi network so here we just choose the wi-fi we want to connect to add our password then once it's connected to the network we are all set now we're going to choose where this is going in our home there you can see it already gave me a notification that it saw me but we're going to add this into the front yard after it checks for any updates and does the update it will then show you a view of the camera so you can test your wi-fi connection wherever you're going to place this and now we're going to select how we're mounting this you have magnetic mount the nest cam stand and the other options but we're just going to choose the magnetic mount and then we're going to put this on a wood surface so then it's going to give you instructions on how to install it and so i'm just going to put this on my siding outside so let's do that now first thing we need to decide is how high we want it google says here six to six and a half feet is best for face detection but i would recommend more like eight feet i am standing on a chair you don't want to have anybody just be able to reach up and pull this down next we're going to screw in the wall plate with the two screws that were included and now we're going to attach the magnetic plate and you simply just put it on and twist it and it locks into place now to add the camera the magnets pull it right onto the mount and once you have it mounted you'll see the green light turns on indicating it's recording an event and then let me show you how you can angle this in many different directions now in the app there is a way where you can flip it 180 degrees so that this can really work in any orientation once i have the camera in the right angle in the app here it's saying if the lights on that means it is currently recording an event or processing a video and if the light is flashing that means somebody is viewing the live feed of the camera next we have the option to turn on video recording i recommend having that on and then we can turn on the microphone so that means you can hear what's happening on the other end and then here we can turn on audio recording so it's going to record what it does here and lastly we have familiar face detection now this only applies if you do have a nest ware subscription like i mentioned before so i am going to turn that on here for the front yard camera so that i'll be notified of specific people that do walk by and now we are done setting up the camera so let's go ahead and test it out without adjusting any further settings it began recording events so here when we walked by it automatically picked this up and it recorded until motion was no longer there next it recorded a kid walking through my yard it saw him as soon as he stepped into the frame and until he left which is really great and next it also captured vehicles now there the capture was a little bit slow in that vehicle going by but another vehicle did come by and there was still motion in frame so it kept recording here now i haven't seen any notifications for like the trees moving or anything so i would say that detection is working really well now the last thing that the camera can detect is animals and here you can see it did pick up this cat after a little bit and it kept recording while it was in a frame now one main difference between the new nest cams versus the old nest cams is it's doing this detection on the device so it's got a processor in there that can detect it and send out those notifications faster than the previous models and i felt that those have actually worked really well so the nest cam will detect people it will detect vehicles as well as animals and any motion in the frame now one big question i saw about these devices is what happens if it's stolen well here snowman brett comes and takes the device now i do have some pretty good hops so i was able to jump up and grab this but as soon as i remove the device from the mount it no longer is able to record and the video shuts off and the camera is bye-bye so there are some mounts uh wasserteen makes one where you can secure it to your wall so that somebody can't just walk up and pull it off easily i'll be reviewing those in another video so far the nest cam battery has been working great but there's one feature it's missing when you are using it on battery power and that is the 10-day video history the good news is if you do want that you are able to add that by getting a supported nest cam weatherproof cable so let's go ahead and get this installed so here's the nest cam weatherproof cable this is the 16 foot or five meter option there is one that's 32 or 10 meters as well so here you just need to plug it into the bottom and then route the cable to the outlet here you can see it comes with a few anchors as well as some screws and over on this side it comes with six different clips to route the cable and then here we have the power cable and it has the same plug there just like we saw on the cable it comes with but this of course is weather resistant so let's go ahead get this routed and installed now this is more of temporary location with the cable not exactly sure where i'm going to put it but there you go it is now plugged in and we're ready to go and see the full 10-day history that it can record and if you don't pay for nest aware plus the cable can still be used to just power the camera constantly so you don't ever need to charge it all right now that we have the nest cam set up let's go ahead and check it out so if we head into the google home app we have two ways to get to it one is we could scroll down to the room that it's in which is currently in the front yard there we have the camera the other option is we can just tap cameras and then we can scroll down and here we have the front yard camera so if we tap on the camera it's going to take us to the live feed of the camera and then i can quickly talk to it and this is what the speaker sounds like on the nest cam battery i don't want the phone i'm about eight inches away if i get right up close to the phone this is how it sounds and then if i'm talking about a full way this is how it sounds from the inside and they can hear me outside and then we have the settings up here but let's first talk about the history and more so here in the event history you can see that there are no current events right here and as we scroll through it's kind of hard to find events so what you can do is tap full history and then it's going to pull up a list of all the different events that have happened today with labels so here you can see it detected an animal or a vehicle or a person you have all of those options here in this row and this is only showing the front yard cam so here it detected an animal let's tap on that to see the event that happened so carp passed by and there you can see somebody is walking their dog so that's pretty cool now when you are viewing an event if you select event details here you can see a bit more information so here we have a person that's detected as well as a vehicle and then here you can see the clip is 22 seconds if you do want to download it you can just tap the little download up here at the top and that will save it to your phone and with this you can scroll back and see some things that were happening last night and so on now up here you can select the calendar and you can choose what day you want to see those events because i pay for the nest or subscription i do have up to 60 days of events that i can view in here and then i also have the option to filter by camera by what was seen and what was heard and others so if you want to specify down more of something that was seen you are able to do that right here and then you can also turn off the camera and it's going to then show you all the events that you have on your account so i have a lot of different cameras so you can see all of those events happening right here so if we go back to our camera so let's tap on the camera now i did say i pay for the nest aware if i don't have nest aware when you come to history you'll be able to see three hours of events the last three hours so i can scroll through here and then let's say after three hours but it would stop after that you wouldn't see any history after that and actually right now i do have this plugged in so i am recording up to 10 days of full video history so as i scroll through here it works pretty good just like the old nest cam in the nest app and it's scrolling through and there's really not much happening now but you can see that it is changing and adjusting based on that now as of right now i have not seen a way to create a time lapse or anything like you could do in the nest web app before now one interesting thing about the timeline is even though i can download events is right now there's no way to download the full history event so you just need to do a screen recording hopefully that changes soon but when there is live history you will see that there is a little gray line indicating there's history and then the blue lines are the events that it has recorded so that is the history for the nest cam now if we tap on live here we have that live option where we can view the cam and then we have the more option here and we have the option to turn the camera on or off and then because i have nest aware i am able to use the emergency option here where i can quickly call emergency services if i do need to do that so those are all the different little settings here with the nest cam on the main page but if we want to adjust further what the settings can do we can head up here into the gear icon so first option we just have some device info we already adjusted all that when we set that up next we have notifications so this is where you can specify what you're going to be notified of so if you do want to receive notifications on your phone you can turn that on here and then you could also have the option where it's only going to notify you when you are away from home which might be nice to be notified what's happening if you are gone now next you have the option to be notified if it detects people animals vehicles or all motion and then here we also have the option if it hurt a carbon monoxide detector or if it heard a smoke alarm it would be able to notify you i don't have any of those in the front yard so i'm going to keep those off next we have battery so right now it is plugged in so you can see i have an infinite amount of battery but here i do have the option to turn on automatic battery saver when there's only seven days left and then here i have the option to choose how much battery is going to be used so i can have it set to record more or just record default or i want more battery life i can come in here and choose those different settings now i've only been using this for a few days and the battery life has gone down a little bit so it's nice that i do have it plugged in now but you can extend the battery a lot by setting those options there and then if we go back here we have the option to have it alert us depending on different events so under here we have the option to create different activity zones so you can use the activity zone even if you don't have nest aware but if you want a familiar face you would need to use nest aware so let's go ahead and create an activity zone so this allows you to be notified of only certain areas so let's say we only care about the yard we don't want to know about what's happening kind of on the street or whatever here i can come in and set specifically my yard so that it's going to notify me of only events in that area and then here you can see that it has created that one zone and then i can come in here and choose what is going to be notifying me within that zone so right now i have people maybe i want to turn on animal detection hopefully there's no vehicles but i guess i could have it notify me if there is a vehicle coming into my yard i can do that and then down here you have the option to turn on all motions so right now it's only going to record those events if i want notifications on my phone then i would come in here and tap to turn on those notifications of those events and then here you also have the outside of zone notifications and that is the events so then you also have the option for the scene and herd so i can turn on the carbon monoxide and the smoke alarm to be notified if it does hear any of those and then we have the video settings for the nest cam so i currently have it set where it's recording 60 days of events and 10 days of 24 7 video history because it's plugged in if you don't have it plugged in you would then just have the 60 day of event history option or maybe you don't want to record anything you can turn it off there next you have wake up sensitivity so right now i have it set to medium if you want a little more sensitive you would want to go to high so the other night i was out there walked past and it did not record me um as an event so i may want to turn that to high if you want to make sure you're getting more of those notifications and then you have low where you're not going to get as many notifications there next we have the maximum event length so you can have this set to record three minutes or just 10 seconds of video if you are using battery it's going to use a lot more with a three minute video length so i've found 15 seconds has worked pretty well then you do have video quality options so you could set it from high to maximum video quality then we have night vision where you can turn that always on or you can have it automatically detect or you can have night vision off and here is the difference between having the night vision off and then here is night vision on and then here we have the option to adjust the status light so the light's always going to be on indicating it is recording and then if somebody's viewing the camera it's going to pulse and so here we can set it to high auto or low and depending on where you are mounting this maybe you need it mounted upside down you can come in here and rotate the camera view 180 degrees so you would be able to view the camera the correct orientation right there and then last we have the audio options so here you can turn on the microphone so i'll be able to hear what is happening out there and then you have the option to turn on audio recording so this is nice if you're having a conversation with whoever is in the camera view it would record a history of your end and their end and then last we have the option to control the camera volume so i've had this set right here to the four and that has actually worked pretty well where outside they are able to hear me um quite clearly on the speaker that is on the nest cam and you can of course turn that down or higher i'm gonna go with higher just to make sure they do hear me when i'm talking to them outside so those are all the settings you get with the new nest cam battery and then you do have the option to delete your video history right here and you can remove the device if you would like to now here's a quick comparison between the google home app on the left and the nest app on the right with the nest outdoor cam so here you can see i am able to scroll a lot faster with the nest app on the older camera and here on the google home app it does take a little bit longer they are going to improve this um they said sometime next year but then i can search for the specific date i want to see in the google home app and i can find what i am looking for right there and then i can scroll through and the updating it does update pretty quickly but i really like how the nest app did have the option where i could pretty much scroll through and see the time lapse right there in front of me where that does need to have some improvement over here on the new nest cam outdoor in the google home app but google actually said this week that they are going to work really hard to make sure you have that same nest app experience in the google home app it is just going to take a lot more time and so i'll update as new features come out but as of right now that's kind of how it is working in the google home app and as you can see on the google home app it does take a second to load when i move the timeline but they are on the nest app as i scroll through again it has a second but then i can scroll through and you can see the sun with the shadows quickly move through and that's something that i just love so much about my nest cam outdoor so um hopefully we get that eventually in the google home app now you can pull up the live feed of the nest cam on compatible displays here i have the nest tub max show me the front yard camera okay streaming the front yard camera now from the display there is no way for me to talk to the camera but i am able to hear what's going on outside and this will stay up here until you swipe it away or sometimes i've had it cancel out but for the most part it can stay for quite a while now here on the nest display i also have the option to swipe down select cameras and then here i can select my camera right here and view the camera as well and here's what it sounds like when people are talking the mic outside on the new nest cam right back inside got it after using the new nest cam battery for a week i'm very impressed with what it can do now this has pretty much everything that you would need for a security camera outside i like that everything is now integrated into the google home app so i have all of the different options that i'm used to over in the nest app but i love now that you have that battery option so with this um it's still undetermined on how long this is actually going to be able to last on battery but i like how simple it is to pull it off charge it up and then you can put it back on and then i really like the option that i still have to be able to just have it plugged in all the time so getting that weather resistant cable i'm able to plug it in and then i don't even have to worry about removing it to charge it back up because it has that constant power now i like that it also still has the 10-day video history like i have on my other nest outdoor camera so with that i can then go through the google home app and i can see all of the history that is available for the last 10 days in the app now the main thing that you're going to be missing from getting this device versus the nest outdoor that goes into the nest app is i currently don't have a way to view this camera on my computer and i don't have an option to create the time-lapse um like i used to do with the nest online interface that's something that i really like to do so it's too bad that that is currently not available in the google home app hopefully one day we will see that but as of right now that's the main negative of this device versus the previous generation of nest outdoor camera one thing i think really improved was the quality of the speaker and the mic from your phone so um with my other nest cameras it's always hard to hear what is being said from the other end on the phone but with this camera i had no issue being able to hear what they would say on the other end and so i think that's really great to see that it has been improved and i like how there's now the three hours of free video event history and then you have the option to choose nest aware to get that full history as well so overall i think this is a really great camera it has everything that i would want in a security camera and i think it's great that it is all integrated into the google home app so that i don't need to jump to a bunch of different apps to check out the cameras now one other thing that does not work on the new cams that would work on the old cams is being able to view them on echo show devices as well as in smart things so as of right now it doesn't work not sure if it will ever be supported so if you have any further questions about the new google nest cam battery please let me know in the comments below and if you would like to see my other videos about the new nest cameras when they become available make sure you check out the playlist right here thank you so much for watching we'll see you on the next onelook here we caught an animal let's check it out whose cat is that get off my yard after years of using the google nest outdoor cam and it's very long cable you can see it goes all the way over there google has finally come out where this is going in our home there you can see it already gave me a notification that it saw me but we're going to add this into the front yard after it checks for any updates and does the update it will then show you a view of the camera so you can test your wi-fi connection wherever you're going to place this and now we're going to select how we're mounting this you have magnetic mount the nest cam stand and the other options but we're just going to choose the magnetic mount and then we're going to put this on a wood surface so then it's going to give you instructions on how to install it and so i'm just going to put this on my siding outside so let's do that now first thing we need to decide is how high we want it google says here six to six and a half feet is best for face detection but i would recommend more like eight feet i am standing on a chair you don't want to have anybody just be able to reach up and pull this down next we're going to screw in the wall plate with the two screws that were included and now we're going to attach the magnetic plate and you simply just put it on and twist it and it locks into place now to add the camera the magnets pull it right onto the mount and once you have it mounted you'll see the green light turns on indicating it's recording an event and then let me show you how you can angle this in many different directions now in the app there is a way where you can flip it 180 degrees so that this can really work in any orientation once i have the camera in the right angle in the app here it's saying if the lights on that means it is currently recording an event or processing a video and if the light is flashing that means somebody is viewing the live feed of the camera next we have the option to turn on video recording i recommend having that on and then we can turn on the microphone so that means you can hear what's happening on the other end and then here we can turn on audio recording so it's going to record what it does here and lastly we have familiar face detection now this only applies if you do have a nest ware subscription like i mentioned before so i am going to turn that on here for the front yard camera so that i'll be notified of specific people that do walk by and now we are done setting up the camera so let's go ahead and test it out without adjusting any further settings it began recording events so here when we walked by it automatically picked this up and it recorded until motion was no longer there next it recorded a kid walking through my yard it saw him as soon as he stepped into the frame and until he left which is really great and next it also captured vehicles now there the capture was a little bit slow in that vehicle going by but another vehicle did come by and there was still motion in frame so it kept recording here now i haven't seen any notifications for like the trees moving or anything so i would say that detection is working really well now the last thing that the camera can detect is animals and here you can see it did pick up this cat after a little bit and it kept recording while it was in a frame now one main difference between the new nest cams versus the old nest cams is it's doing this detection on the device so it's got a processor in there that can detect it and send out those notifications faster than the previous models and i felt that those have actually worked really well so the nest cam will detect people it will detect vehicles as well as animals and any motion in the frame now one big question i saw about these devices is what happens if it's stolen well here snowman brett comes and takes the device now i do have some pretty good hops so i was able to jump up and grab this but as soon as i remove the device from the mount it no longer is able to record and the video shuts off and the camera is bye-bye so there are some mounts uh wasserteen makes one where you can secure it to your wall so that somebody can't just walk up and pull it off easily i'll be reviewing those in another video so far the nest cam battery has been working great but there's one feature it's missing when you are using it on battery power and that is the 10-day video history the good news is if you do want that you are able to add that by getting a supported nest cam weatherproof cable so let's go ahead and get this installed so here's the nest cam weatherproof cable this is the 16 foot or five meter option there is one that's 32 or 10 meters as well so here you just need to plug it into the bottom and then route the cable to the outlet here you can see it comes with a few anchors as well as some screws and over on this side it comes with six different clips to route the cable and then here we have the power cable and it has the same plug there just like we saw on the cable it comes with but this of course is weather resistant so let's go ahead get this routed and installed now this is more of temporary location with the cable not exactly sure where i'm going to put it but there you go it is now plugged in and we're ready to go and see the full 10-day history that it can record and if you don't pay for nest aware plus the cable can still be used to just power the camera constantly so you don't ever need to charge it all right now that we have the nest cam set up let's go ahead and check it out so if we head into the google home app we have two ways to get to it one is we could scroll down to the room that it's in which is currently in the front yard there we have the camera the other option is we can just tap cameras and then we can scroll down and here we have the front yard camera so if we tap on the camera it's going to take us to the live feed of the camera and then i can quickly talk to it and this is what the speaker sounds like on the nest cam battery i don't want the phone i'm about eight inches away if i get right up close to the phone this is how it sounds and then if i'm talking about a full way this is how it sounds from the inside and they can hear me outside and then we have the settings up here but let's first talk about the history and more so here in the event history you can see that there are no current events right here and as we scroll through it's kind of hard to find events so what you can do is tap full history and then it's going to pull up a list of all the different events that have happened today with labels so here you can see it detected an animal or a vehicle or a person you have all of those options here in this row and this is only showing the front yard cam so here it detected an animal let's tap on that to see the event that happened so carp passed by and there you can see somebody is walking their dog so that's pretty cool now when you are viewing an event if you select event details here you can see a bit more information so here we have a person that's detected as well as a vehicle and then here you can see the clip is 22 seconds if you do want to download it you can just tap the little download up here at the top and that will save it to your phone and with this you can scroll back and see some things that were happening last night and so on now up here you can select the calendar and you can choose what day you want to see those events because i pay for the nest or subscription i do have up to 60 days of events that i can view in here and then i also have the option to filter by camera by what was seen and what was heard and others so if you want to specify down more of something that was seen you are able to do that right here and then you can also turn off the camera and it's going to then show you all the events that you have on your account so i have a lot of different cameras so you can see all of those events happening right here so if we go back to our camera so let's tap on the camera now i did say i pay for the nest aware if i don't have nest aware when you come to history you'll be able to see three hours of events the last three hours so i can scroll through here and then let's say after three hours but it would stop after that you wouldn't see any history after that and actually right now i do have this plugged in so i am recording up to 10 days of full video history so as i scroll through here it works pretty good just like the old nest cam in the nest app and it's scrolling through and there's really not much happening now but you can see that it is changing and adjusting based on that now as of right now i have not seen a way to create a time lapse or anything like you could do in the nest web app before now one interesting thing about the timeline is even though i can download events is right now there's no way to download the full history event so you just need to do a screen recording hopefully that changes soon but when there is live history you will see that there is a little gray line indicating there's history and then the blue lines are the events that it has recorded so that is the history for the nest cam now if we tap on live here we have that live option where we can view the cam and then we have the more option here and we have the option to turn the camera on or off and then because i have nest aware i am able to use the emergency option here where i can quickly call emergency services if i do need to do that so those are all the different little settings here with the nest cam on the main page but if we want to adjust further what the settings can do we can head up here into the gear icon so first option we just have some device info we already adjusted all that when we set that up next we have notifications so this is where you can specify what you're going to be notified of so if you do want to receive notifications on your phone you can turn that on here and then you could also have the option where it's only going to notify you when you are away from home which might be nice to be notified what's happening if you are gone now next you have the option to be notified if it detects people animals vehicles or all motion and then here we also have the option if it hurt a carbon monoxide detector or if it heard a smoke alarm it would be able to notify you i don't have any of those in the front yard so i'm going to keep those off next we have battery so right now it is plugged in so you can see i have an infinite amount of battery but here i do have the option to turn on automatic battery saver when there's only seven days left and then here i have the option to choose how much battery is going to be used so i can have it set to record more or just record default or i want more battery life i can come in here and choose those different settings now i've only been using this for a few days and the battery life has gone down a little bit so it's nice that i do have it plugged in now but you can extend the battery a lot by setting those options there and then if we go back here we have the option to have it alert us depending on different events so under here we have the option to create different activity zones so you can use the activity zone even if you don't have nest aware but if you want a familiar face you would need to use nest aware so let's go ahead and create an activity zone so this allows you to be notified of only certain areas so let's say we only care about the yard we don't want to know about what's happening kind of on the street or whatever here i can come in and set specifically my yard so that it's going to notify me of only events in that area and then here you can see that it has created that one zone and then i can come in here and choose what is going to be notifying me within that zone so right now i have people maybe i want to turn on animal detection hopefully there's no vehicles but i guess i could have it notify me if there is a vehicle coming into my yard i can do that and then down here you have the option to turn on all motions so right now it's only going to record those events if i want notifications on my phone then i would come in here and tap to turn on those notifications of those events and then here you also have the outside of zone notifications and that is the events so then you also have the option for the scene and herd so i can turn on the carbon monoxide and the smoke alarm to be notified if it does hear any of those and then we have the video settings for the nest cam so i currently have it set where it's recording 60 days of events and 10 days of 24 7 video history because it's plugged in if you don't have it plugged in you would then just have the 60 day of event history option or maybe you don't want to record anything you can turn it off there next you have wake up sensitivity so right now i have it set to medium if you want a little more sensitive you would want to go to high so the other night i was out there walked past and it did not record me um as an event so i may want to turn that to high if you want to make sure you're getting more of those notifications and then you have low where you're not going to get as many notifications there next we have the maximum event length so you can have this set to record three minutes or just 10 seconds of video if you are using battery it's going to use a lot more with a three minute video length so i've found 15 seconds has worked pretty well then you do have video quality options so you could set it from high to maximum video quality then we have night vision where you can turn that always on or you can have it automatically detect or you can have night vision off and here is the difference between having the night vision off and then here is night vision on and then here we have the option to adjust the status light so the light's always going to be on indicating it is recording and then if somebody's viewing the camera it's going to pulse and so here we can set it to high auto or low and depending on where you are mounting this maybe you need it mounted upside down you can come in here and rotate the camera view 180 degrees so you would be able to view the camera the correct orientation right there and then last we have the audio options so here you can turn on the microphone so i'll be able to hear what is happening out there and then you have the option to turn on audio recording so this is nice if you're having a conversation with whoever is in the camera view it would record a history of your end and their end and then last we have the option to control the camera volume so i've had this set right here to the four and that has actually worked pretty well where outside they are able to hear me um quite clearly on the speaker that is on the nest cam and you can of course turn that down or higher i'm gonna go with higher just to make sure they do hear me when i'm talking to them outside so those are all the settings you get with the new nest cam battery and then you do have the option to delete your video history right here and you can remove the device if you would like to now here's a quick comparison between the google home app on the left and the nest app on the right with the nest outdoor cam so here you can see i am able to scroll a lot faster with the nest app on the older camera and here on the google home app it does take a little bit longer they are going to improve this um they said sometime next year but then i can search for the specific date i want to see in the google home app and i can find what i am looking for right there and then i can scroll through and the updating it does update pretty quickly but i really like how the nest app did have the option where i could pretty much scroll through and see the time lapse right there in front of me where that does need to have some improvement over here on the new nest cam outdoor in the google home app but google actually said this week that they are going to work really hard to make sure you have that same nest app experience in the google home app it is just going to take a lot more time and so i'll update as new features come out but as of right now that's kind of how it is working in the google home app and as you can see on the google home app it does take a second to load when i move the timeline but they are on the nest app as i scroll through again it has a second but then i can scroll through and you can see the sun with the shadows quickly move through and that's something that i just love so much about my nest cam outdoor so um hopefully we get that eventually in the google home app now you can pull up the live feed of the nest cam on compatible displays here i have the nest tub max show me the front yard camera okay streaming the front yard camera now from the display there is no way for me to talk to the camera but i am able to hear what's going on outside and this will stay up here until you swipe it away or sometimes i've had it cancel out but for the most part it can stay for quite a while now here on the nest display i also have the option to swipe down select cameras and then here i can select my camera right here and view the camera as well and here's what it sounds like when people are talking the mic outside on the new nest cam right back inside got it after using the new nest cam battery for a week i'm very impressed with what it can do now this has pretty much everything that you would need for a security camera outside i like that everything is now integrated into the google home app so i have all of the different options that i'm used to over in the nest app but i love now that you have that battery option so with this um it's still undetermined on how long this is actually going to be able to last on battery but i like how simple it is to pull it off charge it up and then you can put it back on and then i really like the option that i still have to be able to just have it plugged in all the time so getting that weather resistant cable i'm able to plug it in and then i don't even have to worry about removing it to charge it back up because it has that constant power now i like that it also still has the 10-day video history like i have on my other nest outdoor camera so with that i can then go through the google home app and i can see all of the history that is available for the last 10 days in the app now the main thing that you're going to be missing from getting this device versus the nest outdoor that goes into the nest app is i currently don't have a way to view this camera on my computer and i don't have an option to create the time-lapse um like i used to do with the nest online interface that's something that i really like to do so it's too bad that that is currently not available in the google home app hopefully one day we will see that but as of right now that's the main negative of this device versus the previous generation of nest outdoor camera one thing i think really improved was the quality of the speaker and the mic from your phone so um with my other nest cameras it's always hard to hear what is being said from the other end on the phone but with this camera i had no issue being able to hear what they would say on the other end and so i think that's really great to see that it has been improved and i like how there's now the three hours of free video event history and then you have the option to choose nest aware to get that full history as well so overall i think this is a really great camera it has everything that i would want in a security camera and i think it's great that it is all integrated into the google home app so that i don't need to jump to a bunch of different apps to check out the cameras now one other thing that does not work on the new cams that would work on the old cams is being able to view them on echo show devices as well as in smart things so as of right now it doesn't work not sure if it will ever be supported so if you have any further questions about the new google nest cam battery please let me know in the comments below and if you would like to see my other videos about the new nest cameras when they become available make sure you check out the playlist right here thank you so much for watching we'll see you on the next one\n"
