Gamepad for PS4 Wireless Controller Review
The Gamepad for PS4 Wireless Controller is one of those nice surprises for me, as I do a lot of gaming on my PC. This controller was one of those nice surprises for me because I got to really put this controller through its paces during extended use. I got accustomed to the feel of the device and really got a good feel for it even after more than four months of use. The buttons are still as clicky as ever, and everything still works just fine.
The joystick functions well enough and every button works as you'd expect them to. I particularly like the triggers because there's less travel time than on the Dualshock 4 controller, and they're a lot stiffer so that you can be more precise when applying pressure to them. This will come in handy when playing games like Project Cars and Drive Club where precise trigger input is most important.
The share option buttons are smaller and situated more centrally than the ones on the first-party controller. I also like this because there's less travel time for my thumb between the joystick and those buttons. On the DualShock 4 controller, your thumbs have to travel more than 3 centimeters, which can be an astronomical distance if you're playing in an online match and want to quickly press the share button to capture a clip. The gamepad for S wireless design eliminates this issue since the joystick and the option and share buttons are less than a centimeter apart.
The controller also has a fully functional home button with an LED under it. The colored LED can't be changed, it's either blue when the battery is fully charged or red when the battery is low. The 3.5 millimeter headphone jack also functions as you'd expect. I used it for a screen with my Lucid Song LS Treatise and they worked perfectly together.
There was one notable thing about this controller - there is no port for connecting a keypad to the controller. This might not be an issue for someone who doesn't have a QWERTY keypad, but I can see how it could be missed by others. The Rumble feedback is indistinguishable from that of other controllers, which means it works just as well.
I also used this device during some extended gaming sessions. Overall, the Bluetooth connectivity and any other functions worked fine with no issues. This makes me ask myself what else a controller like this could do. Can it meet all the requirements of a PlayStation 4 controller in a neat solid package aesthetically? Yes, it can.
The Gamepad for PS4 Wireless Controller comes in multiple colors including pink caramel blue caramel plain black and clean white. Personally, I like the blue one that came with me, but I also see the charm of the pink one. I don't fancy the look of the other two however, this may just be because I've grown to love the look of mine.
Final Verdict
So what do I think about the Gamepad for S Wireless Controller? Well, it's a solid well-built controller that is perfect for use as a secondary controller, especially for peaceful local multiplayer instead of the regular G Will shock controllers because they're cheaper yet don't lose any of the core functionality of the Dual Shock. You'd save between 10 and 20 dollars by picking up one of these instead of a DualShock 4 controller and what do you lose? Not much gimmicks like the light bar and motion controls are not necessary for a controller, so the omission of them won't be missed.
The only thing that might be missed is the port for connecting a keypad. But even this isn't commonly used enough to have much influence on a purchase.
