**A Channel Owner's Dilemma: Navigating Divorce and Financial Consequences**
For a popular YouTube channel owner, divorce has become a harsh reality, forcing them to navigate the complexities of financial separation and its impact on their livelihood. The channel, which had accumulated seven million subscribers, was valued at $60,000, making it a significant asset in the eyes of the court. However, this value is not transferable, leaving the owner with a daunting task: dividing the assets fairly.
**Trial vs. Settlement: Weighing the Pros and Cons**
The channel owner is currently facing two options: settlement or trial. While both have their drawbacks, the decision ultimately comes down to one's personal comfort level with uncertainty. The settlement route promises a swift resolution, but the terms of the agreement may not be entirely favorable. In contrast, going to trial offers the possibility of achieving justice, albeit at a great cost. The estimated expense for reaching this point has already surpassed six figures, and the total bill could reach several hundred thousand dollars.
**The Law: A Source of Confusion**
One aspect that adds complexity to the situation is California's law, which dictates that the higher-earning spouse pays the other side's legal fees. In this case, the channel owner is the primary breadwinner, making them responsible for paying the opposing party's expenses. This arrangement may seem unfair, but it is a provision of the state's laws.
**Finding New Representation**
With their current lawyer fired, the channel owner is now on the hunt for another attorney to guide them through this process. The search has become a full-time job in itself, with multiple consultations scheduled over the next few days. This new lawyer will be instrumental in navigating the intricacies of divorce law and ensuring that the channel owner's interests are represented.
**A Glimmer of Hope: Starting Over**
Despite the challenges ahead, the channel owner remains optimistic about the possibility of starting anew. They have been exploring other houses, including one with a spacious loft space that could be repurposed for their children. While the initial review was positive, it's essential to approach each potential property with caution. The process of finding a new home is a daunting task, but one that may ultimately lead to a fresh start.
**A Glimpse into the Channel Owner's New Home**
For this particular house, the channel owner was excited about its primary bedroom and modern bathroom. They particularly appreciated the large shower and spacious closet space. Another notable feature was the loft space, which could be converted into a playroom or home office. The neighborhood itself offered numerous benefits, including community parks and a pool area. While there were some concerns about the neighboring houses being closed in together, these were outweighed by the potential benefits of this new residence.
**A Final Thought: Finding Strength in Uncertainty**
As the channel owner navigates this challenging time, they are reminded that they have made mistakes along the way. However, it is crucial to acknowledge that these errors are a part of life and that growth often follows from such experiences. With courage and determination, the channel owner will find a way to move forward, even in the face of uncertainty.
"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enhello and welcome back to my channel who's ready for the latest installment of my life is a dumpster fire I wish this title was clickbait but unfortunately it's not we will get into that um I kind of want to start off this video by even saying why I making this video I don't know like through this process what I should share what I shouldn't share but one thing I will tell you being on YouTube it is extremely important to be consistent and continue putting out content or within the algorithm like my channel my videos fall off I've seen it happen so for me it is really pivotal and important that I keep making content and to be real with you this has been one of the hardest weeks of my entire life and this is like all I have to put out there this week the good news is is I have no tears left to cry like that Ariana Grande song I Now understand what that means I'm at a point where things are so bad and I will tell you um I almost have to laugh about it biggest lifeless I've learned I'll just tell you that what I've learned this week is there is a difference between Justice and the law and because of the state that I was married in California I am screwed effed to the ultimate degree in my opinion I mean I know it never feels fair I guess when you're going through this type of situation so I'll just tell you what happened um on Monday was what is called the vssc voluntary settlement conference where his team my team we all get together and try to make a settlement happen now that was 10 months in the making which like now looking back I found out is a tactic to increase the billable hours of the lawyers like it did not need to take this long to get to this point which I am a bit upset about but you know you learn as you go through this process and so we had this whole day from 9 to 5 where we're going back and forth there was a retired judge who was overseeing the whole thing and basically at the end of the day these are the two options in front of me as a time of filming I have not decided what I'm going to do I'm leaning towards one option but everything is up in the air everything is changing so option number one is to settle and in order to settle is that he gets the house and that's not like him buying me out of the house it means he gets the house all of the equity in the house and he gets every single Dollar in all of my bank accounts and I'm saying my bank accounts because that is all money that I have earned over a 10-year career so he will get all the money investment account retirement account joint account and business account he would get all of it and on top of that he would get spousal support child support and a percentage bonus if I make above a certain threshold and oh I didn't mentioned this part it's more than I even have so it's more than everything in all of my bank accounts I would also have to either take a loan or do something called an equalization payment and pay him in large chunks so you may be hearing this and say what that's crazy how could this be I know I'm right there with you like I feel like I am living in the Twilight Zone like how could this be like how how is this fair and especially like you guys don't know the circumstances that led to this divorce okay this is not an amicable divorce so I have to pay this person every penny I've ever earned and made my entire career and then some and then continue to pay him and the reason why is because this YouTube channel here that you're watching that I started way back in 2013 I always operated this independently so you know Google ads they would just pay me as a $10.99 employee Brands I worked with they just paid me independently and when Ryan came on to work with me he immediately turned my YouTube channel into an LLC I never understood the implications of that I thought and I was told it was just for tax purposes and that's on me for trusting that for not doing my own research for not protecting myself at that point because in establishing this YouTube channel as an LLC it has value you all probably know if you watch me you wouldn't watch this channel if someone else came on and tried to replace me like it doesn't have any transferable value without me like it's all based on me being here and my relationship I built with you guys over 10 years um but that doesn't matter apparently in family law it is considered marital value and so um his side put together bunch of numbers paperwork all of that saying that this channel is worth a astronomical value so that is where we end up of me paying him the house every penny I've ever made taking on some kind of a loan and paying him spousal support that is how I am left utterly and completely how is this right or Fair I've worked so hard by myself I have done everything you've seen here on this channel I've never had any help doing this channel um and everything I've built which I was trying to save for my kids you guys know me I'm not out here like buying designer things being flashy I don't even travel I just wanted that money for my kids and my security and my biggest fear has always been being homeless I will be left with nowhere to live and I do want to like talk on that touch on that a little bit I am living in the most expensive city in the country San Diego California just came out this is the most expensive place to live and the real estate situation here is pretty dire like not only are interest rates incredibly High I want to say they're in like the 7% rate I'm not going to have any money for a payment so it's looking like I'm going to have to rent like some kind of an apartment with my two kids and my two cats but yeah so I'm going to have to rent some kind of an apartment and even to rent like a little apartment is more than I pay for my mortgage on this house which I love and I'm I'm still trying to figure out a way to keep my house because you know my dad just moved down the street my dad and stepmom and it's just so amazing to have that moral support and have my kids get to grow up next to their grandparents you know I don't want to give it up just yet but it's looking like no matter what way I cedit there's a lot of equity in this house and that's what I need to pay him this like huge amount so as I mentioned there are two options okay so there's that option door number two that option is taking this to trial so in trial the idea there would be his side is presenting my YouTube channel is worth X dollars lots of dollars and I would say my YouTube channel is worth a lot less because fun fact here there's a website where you can buy and sell YouTube channels blogs Instagram accounts and things like that there was recently a YouTube channel sold that was a home and Lifestyle Channel not too dissimilar for mine that had 7 million subscribers and that channel sold for $60,000 okay because again like I said these channels are not transferable so it sounds like great like what's what's the decision here like do that because if you win then you don't have to pay all of this money that I had to in option A but here's the problem going going to trial getting to trial not only is it very arduous it's a long process so it's another one to two years of my life that I am dealing with this this is all in limbo nothing has been decided but more than that what happen the other side starts bombarding you they make your life hell they depose you so I have to sit down for eight hours they ask me a bunch of questions try to make me look bad they've already tried to subpoena my phone um and my hard drive to go through and just try and find whatever they can to make me look bad it is incredibly expensive from what I've told I mean I've already spent over six figures just to get to this point just to get to this horrible decision that's in front of me they've estimated to get to trial will be several hundred thousands of dollars and wait here's the kicker um in California apparently no matter what the outcome is the higher earning spouse pays the other side's legal fees he's not paying the bill I'm paying the bill like how is this Fair how is this law so um at this point after that settlement conference I fired my lawyer for a couple reasons so now I'm on the hunt for another lawyer which in itself is literally like a full-time job I talked to two earlier today I have another one I'm talking to at 3:30 I don't even know what to say like what would you do if those were your two options I am leaning towards the trial route because even if I have to spend all of my money at least it will be some sort of like justice in this I I don't know all of these options seem terrible like what do you do when all of your options seem terrible so I'm hoping that maybe there there are other options I haven't considered and I could find a really good lawyer I just have to find the strength to start over and rebuild and it just sucks because I've worked so hard to get to this point but I've made some bad choices along the way and I just have to face the consequences of my own choices but I mean there's so much more to this if you guys knew and maybe one day you will um know the full story and why this is all happening it makes it that much more just completely incomprehensible that the these are my choices um but I'm going to end this video on maybe a positive note I'll show you one of the houses that I looked at I did like it it's still possibly on the table I will take you guys through um this whole process of starting over so we are here to take a look this is Ellen one of my besties and my agent if you're in San Diego best agent I'll put her info in the description box but let's check it out so this is the main living space nice big like open kitchen and then the couch TV we go here and this is like dining space so gosh I would almost prefer this to be grass or something but it could be worked with this could all be worked with so yeah this is another review of like the kitchen I like the kitchen it's all pretty new okay so this is the primary bedroom nice size bathroom it looks pretty new big shower and I like the closet look at this big closet think of all the organizing we could do in here okay one thing I really like about this house is there's this like random Loft space right here that would be perfect for the kids we can have all their toys little TV here for them cou I like having it open and then this would be like Capri's room laundry room upstairs oh my gosh that in itself game changing then you don't have to Lug the laundry up and down the stairs and then this would be their shared bathroom upstairs and then this would be one of the kids' rooms one concern is the houses are closed together so you can see here you can see into someone else's backyard hopefully they're not loud but also a full guest room and bath room here at the front of the house I would probably do new floors make this a gym and then this would be my office so this neighborhood also has all these little Parks throughout which I love and then over there is a big community pool and here's the community pool this is like the big pool and then there's a kid pool and a Jacuzzi like barbecue so I feel like it's very familyfriendly so viewers watching what are your thoughtshello and welcome back to my channel who's ready for the latest installment of my life is a dumpster fire I wish this title was clickbait but unfortunately it's not we will get into that um I kind of want to
