Lenovo Returns with the Vibe S1: A Sleek and Powerful Smartphone
As Josh Varar from Android Authority, we're excited to introduce you to Lenovo's latest addition to their smartphone lineup - the Vibe S1. This device brings with it a pretty sleek design and a plethora of features that make it somewhat compelling. In this article, we'll delve into the design, camera capabilities, performance, and other key aspects of the Vibe S1.
Design: A Nimble and Attractive Device
The first thing that struck us when we got our hands on the Vibe S1 was its nimble handling. This device is remarkably thin and light, making it a pleasure to hold and use. The glossy finish on the back of the phone adds to its sleekness, but also makes it slightly prone to slipping around in your pocket or bag. However, this isn't a major issue, as the screen size isn't too large to cause any problems. Speaking of which, the Vibe S1 boasts a 5-inch full HD display with an IPS construction and 1080p resolution. The device is powered by a Mediatek processor octacore at 1.7 GHz, backed up by 3 GB of RAM and 32 GB of internal storage, expandable up to 128 GB via a microSD card slot.
Camera Capabilities: Enhanced Front-Facing Camera
One of the standout features of the Vibe S1 is its rear camera, which is a simple 13-megapixel sensor with a dual color flash. This allows for decent low-light shots without too much washed-out effect. However, it's the front-facing camera that really steals the show. The Vibe S1 boasts a dual front-facing camera setup, consisting of an 8-megapixel main camera and 2 MP secondary camera. This configuration provides depth information, allowing you to take stunning selfies with a nice depth of field effect in the background.
Auto Selfie: A Convenient but Overzealous Feature
One of the convenient features we noticed in the Vibe S1's camera app was the auto selfie mode. When you bring up the phone to your face or at least far enough for it to detect your face, the device will take a selfie right away. While this feature might be convenient, it can also be slightly overzealous, as our testing showed that it takes selfies too frequently. This means you'll likely find yourself turning off this feature regularly.
Battery Life: A 2500 Milliamp Battery
Underneath the Vibe S1's sleek exterior lies a 2500 milliamp battery, which should provide decent power for most users. The device also comes with some power-saving features that help optimize battery life. However, it's worth noting that Lenovo's smartphones generally stick to European and Asian markets, so this device might not be available in all regions.
Operating System: Functional but Buggy
The Vibe S1 runs on the same operating system as other Lenovo smartphones, which is known for its colorful elements and some slightly bloated design. While it's still functional, we encountered a few bugs during our testing that made us wonder if this device was fully optimized for user experience.
Conclusion: The Vibe S1 A Reliable and Stylish Smartphone
In conclusion, the Vibe S1 is a reliable and stylish smartphone that checks all the right boxes. Its sleek design, enhanced front-facing camera, and decent battery life make it an attractive option for users looking for a solid Android experience. However, its limited availability in Western markets might be a major drawback for some buyers. As we mentioned earlier, Lenovo's smartphones tend to focus on European and Asian markets, so this device might not be available in all regions.
