Security Settings, Biometrics & Smart Lock Tutorial for Galaxy S9

**Smart Lock Settings on Samsung Galaxy S9**

Once you connect your phone to your watch, you'll notice that it will ask if you want to add this as a trusted device. This means that you won't have to enter your pattern or swipe the phone to unlock it. Instead, the phone will automatically unlock when you approach it with your watch connected. However, this also means that anyone nearby can potentially unlock the phone, so you'll need to decide whether to use this setting.

**Secure Lock Settings**

To access the secure lock settings on your Samsung Galaxy S9, go to the Security settings section. Here, you can see various options to enhance the security of your device. One option is to verify your pattern visibility, which allows you to turn it off and prevent others from seeing your pattern. Another option is to set the lock automatically, which can be set to immediately lock the phone or after a specified delay.

For example, if you set the lock to immediately lock with the power key, pressing the button will unlock the phone, requiring only a biometric scan or pattern entry. However, if smart lock is enabled (which we'll discuss later), this setting won't be applicable. To test this setting, press the power button and then attempt to unlock the phone. You should not need to enter any biometrics or pattern to access the phone.

**Lock Screen Settings**

When you're connected to your watch, the lock screen will display a message indicating that it's locked by smart lock. This means that if someone is nearby and tries to unlock the phone, they won't be able to do so unless they have the necessary permissions. However, this also means that when you approach the phone with your watch connected, it may become unlocked.

To adjust the lock screen settings, go to the Lock Screen section of the Security settings. Here, you can turn off the pattern visibility and set the lock automatically. You can choose from various options, including immediately locking the phone or after a specified delay. The Auto Factory Reset option allows the device to reset itself after a specified number of failed attempts.

**Network and Security Settings**

In addition to the lock screen settings, you'll also find the Network and Security section under the Lock Screen category. This setting allows you to lock your device to the local network or Wi-Fi connection, making it more difficult for someone to access your phone without permission.

Finally, the Iris Scanner section allows you to customize the preview screen mask for the iris scanner feature. By default, this feature will display a creepy grayish video; however, you can choose from various frames to make the experience less intimidating. To use this feature, you'll need to turn off Intelligent Scan and then enable Iris Unlocked.

By adjusting these settings, you can customize your Samsung Galaxy S9's security features to suit your needs and keep your device secure from unauthorized access.
