American Tamagotchi Ocean

### Unboxing the Tamagotchi Ocean: A Special Edition Review

Hello everyone! This is Erica from Tamagotchi Museum on weebly.com. Today, I have something truly special to share with you—a brand new, unopened Tamagotchi Ocean. This was a lucky find, picked up recently from eBay, and I couldn’t be more excited to bring it to you all. If you’re familiar with the Tamagotchi franchise, you know that finding an unopened one is a rare treat. But this one is even more special because it’s the American version of the Tamagotchi Ocean! Let’s dive in and see what makes this edition so unique.

#### The Packaging: A Glimpse into Careful Unboxing

Before we get to the fun part, let’s talk about the packaging. As I mentioned earlier, these American versions have a different kind of packaging compared to their Japanese counterparts. While the Japanese ones often come with slip sleeves that are easier to preserve, the American packaging seems more prone to damage if not handled carefully. To avoid ruining the box, I decided to use a pocket knife for this unboxing.

Carefully slicing around the edges with a knife is no easy feat—it takes patience and precision to avoid tearing any part of the cardboard. I paused multiple times during the process, making sure I wasn’t causing any unintended damage. The goal here was to remove the top packaging intact, and I’m happy to say that mission was successful!

Once the top layer was off, we were left with the Tamagotchi Ocean itself, nestled securely inside its second layer of packaging. This is where you’ll find the tamagotchi device, along with a pull tab to remove the batteries (more on that later).

#### Meet the Tamagotchi Ocean: Features and Functionality

As I pulled it out of the packaging, I couldn’t help but notice some minor packaging residue, which is pretty standard for unboxing electronics. But don’t worry—it’s an easy fix with a little cleaning. The tamagotchi itself looks stunning in its American version design. While the Japanese models have a sleek, minimalist look, the American one offers vibrant color patterns that are hard to ignore.

One of the standout features of this edition is its lack of a built-in keychain loop. Unlike other Tamagotchis you might be familiar with, this one doesn’t come with a convenient way to attach it to your bag or keys. But don’t worry—I’ve already got some ideas for how to improvise and add a custom chain later on.

Before we dive into the gameplay, let’s take a look at the instructions that came with it. They’re pretty much identical to what you’d expect from any Tamagotchi—simple, straightforward guidance on feeding, disciplining, and caring for your virtual pet. The growth chart is also included, giving you an idea of how your tamagotchi will progress over time.

One thing worth noting is the packaging paint gunk I mentioned earlier—it’s just a small detail that comes off easily with some cleaning. Now, let’s get to the part everyone’s been waiting for—turning it on and seeing if the battery works!

#### A Glimpse into Gameplay: Feeding, Discipline, and More

After removing the pull tab and inserting fresh batteries, I was thrilled to see a character swimming across the screen. This tamagotchi is in its egg stage, and it looks adorable with a black shell bouncing up and down (a slight difference from the Japanese version, which has a white egg).

As I checked the time, it was 11 o'clock on the dot, and my tamagotchi had been born just that morning—Wednesday, July 29th. It’s always fun to see the exact date and time of your pet’s “birth.” Now, onto the gameplay!

The tamagotchi Ocean comes with all the familiar features you’d expect from a Tamagotchi: feeding, disciplining, playing games, and more. The only difference here is that everything is in English instead of Japanese, which makes it even more accessible for those who aren’t fluent in the language.

Feeding your tamagotchi is one of the most important aspects of caring for it. On this version, you can choose to feed it bread or snacks like ice cream cones (the same as in the Japanese version). Snacks are a great way to boost its happiness and keep it from dying too quickly—though, let’s be honest, no amount of snacks will make this journey last forever!

The buttons on this tamagotchi feel smooth and responsive. There’s no lag time when scrolling between icons or pressing the execute button, which is always a plus. Speaking of buttons, let’s take a closer look at the gameplay options:

- **Game Mode**: Just like in other Tamagotchis, you can play mini-games to make your pet happy. For example, there’s a simple game where you need to win at least three times to keep it content.

- **Discipline Icon**: This one is unique to the Ocean version. It alerts you when a sea bear is about to attack your tamagotchi. You can press this icon, scroll over to “Hand 1,” and tap or execute to protect it from harm. Sometimes, the sea bear might wake up before you get a chance to react—keeping you on your toes!

- **Medicine**: If your tamagotchi gets sick, you’ll need to use medicine to keep it healthy.

One of the coolest features is how the lights work once your tamagotchi reaches its teenage years. Depending on the time of day (from 8:00 AM to 7:00 PM), it can turn the lights on and off automatically. Even if you manually turn them off, the ocean background remains bright, which adds a nice touch to the overall aesthetic.

#### Wrapping Up: A Special Edition Worth Celebrating

As I reflect on this unboxing experience, I’m reminded of how unique and special the Tamagotchi Ocean is. While it may not have all the bells and whistles of newer versions, there’s something truly magical about these older models. The way they look, feel, and function brings back a wave of nostalgia for anyone who grew up with the original Tamagotchis.

If you’re looking to add this gem to your collection, I highly recommend seeking out unopened copies or finding one on platforms like eBay. Just be prepared to spend some time cleaning off any packaging residue and maybe even modifying it to include a custom keychain.

"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enhello everyone this is Erica of Tamagotchi museum weebly.com and today I have something very special to show you which is pretty exciting this is a brand new unopened Tamagotchi Ocean I had one of this recently off eBay this is a very very very lucky find so I'm actually going to be unboxing it for you today and untapping it to show you how it works and so here we go this is the back of the packaging and you can see it says Tamagotchi ocean and it just pretty much looks like this the only thing about the packaging on these ones is probably really easy to ruin compared to the slip sleeves that they have for the Japanese ones and so what I'm going to use is a pocket knife to hopefully try to carefully open the sides now as you can see I'm in the process of very carefully cutting around the edges and it's pretty much impossible to make sure that it doesn't take off any of the cardboard here so let me pause it while I continue going around very carefully now if you use a pocket knife to open it at least its easiest to go underneath like this so you kind of just slice around it and so now I have successfully taking it off without causing too much damage and that's the top packaging there and here we have the much-sought-after Tamagotchi Ocean American version let's see it's getting out of this packaging here he's in there pretty low give me one second okay so I just peeled off the tape here in the back part packaging here and so here he is and there's the pull tab okay he has some packaging paint gunk but you can see him there and I wonder if his battery works but first let me show you that it comes with the instructions like probably sense puts the ends of this up for everybody that way they can see so it looks just like any normal Tamagotchi instructions you can see his growth chart here here is this little enemy polar bear that's what he looks like in full view alright so see if we can take the tab out and the batteries work as you can see there's one of the little characters now swimming across the street screen yeah the only difference between the American one and the Japanese one is the color pattern which are much much nicer I have to say and the the keychain thing here the ones on the the normal ones such as the double one here you can see that they have a little loop here and this one doesn't so I'm gonna have to find some way to improvise and to make a little thing to put through him so that I can stick him in the case here and so let's get him started and let's see so sure what time it is right at the moment let's check it out now is actually 11 o'clock on the debt dot and he was born on Wednesday July 29th so that's good to note you know and then this is oops sorry about that I think the sound sounds about the same on this one versus the Japanese one but also different on the American one as you can see that there is a black egg instead of a white one that bounces up and down and so I will see you in a couple minutes when C hatches and they can show you the rest of it all right as you can see I caught his beginning animation he is now just born and I like this cuz it's now an English version opposed to the Japanese so quality this is water quality this is hungry and how happy he is and hid the discipline and on this one you can see there's meal and snack seems that he is sure what he's eating we need some type of bread or something um snacking it's the same as the Japanese version he's eating a little ice cream cone which is really cute now you can use the snack to boost his happiness all the things that makes him gain weight and it could or there may not influence him dying as quickly as he usually does the buttons feel really nice there's no lag time when pushing them and scrolling between icons so here's the game here it's the same on the Japanese one and playing this game makes him happy too I need to win at least three in order to make him happy so you can see the little son there and then when the next game starts you can exit out of it here's the toilet icon this is the discipline icon or this is that you can alert your Tamagotchi ocean when there's a sea bear that's going to attack him and so you select this icon you push it over the hand 1 and I usually just tap it or you can push the execute button here once you scroll over to it and then you push this middle button when the sea bear attacks and sometimes it'll wake up before you have to tap the case there's the medicine and there's the light on and off and what's interesting about the ocean is once it gets to be about teenage years you can turn the lights on and off and if it's a certain part of the day such as a I think it's like 8:00 in the morning to 7:00 at night he will turn his own lights on and off and so even if you turn the lights off it'll this ocean will still be bright and so I think that as all I have to show you at the moment about the Tamagotchi ocean you can see it's Bandai in 1997 and so I'm going to find a way to make a nice little chain for him instead of this cheap one so thank you for watching and please come and visit me at Tamagotchi Museum
