**Reading Goals and Habits for the New Year**
As the year comes to a close, many book lovers reflect on their reading habits and set new goals for the upcoming months. For one reader, getting back into reading has been a challenge due to the demands of caring for a five-month-old baby and a special needs child. With limited time available, they have set realistic goals for themselves, aiming to read around seven books per month.
These goals are not just about quantity, but also quality. The reader wants to focus on reading more substantial books rather than mindless pages. They recognize that their priorities have shifted and that they need to be more intentional with their reading time. By setting specific goals and being mindful of what they read, the reader hopes to make progress towards achieving them.
In contrast to last year's goals, which did not come to fruition, this year's objectives are more concrete and achievable. The reader acknowledges that they didn't set themselves up for success in the past and is determined to do better this time around. They recall their attempt at reading 100 books last year but fell short, finishing with a total of 89 pages. This experience has taught them the importance of setting realistic goals and making a plan.
The reader also recognizes that they have grown out of some genres and authors, including Cassandra Clare and Colleen Hoover. While others may be eager to dive into new releases from these authors, the reader simply doesn't feel the same enthusiasm. They appreciate that it's okay to acknowledge their own preferences and boundaries when it comes to reading.
To start the year off on a positive note, the reader has identified several areas where they would like to make changes in their reading habits. Firstly, they want to stop pigeonholing themselves into reading only romance novels, which are often quick and easy reads. Instead, they aim to explore more genres, including science fiction, which has been a neglected area for them. They even made a graphic on Instagram with 10-12 sci-fi books they want to read this year, demonstrating their commitment to trying new things.
In addition to expanding their reading horizons, the reader also wants to engage more with adaptations of books they love. However, they confess that watching adaptations has become less exciting for them over time. They remember enjoying The Hating Game, but ultimately felt it didn't need to be adapted into a movie or TV show.
The reader's favorite bookish memory from last year is actually about their own readathon experience, where they participated in the Guild Marathon, which they describe as "the season of fun." However, when asked if they had started any carryovers from last year that they still plan to finish, they admit that they don't. They prefer to read one book at a time and find it challenging to juggle multiple projects.
Finally, the reader reflects on their goal to speak their reading goals into existence through discussion and sharing with others. By talking about their objectives and engaging with other readers who share similar aspirations, they hope to motivate themselves and make progress towards achieving their reading goals. The reader invites readers to join in and participate in this book tag, which aims to foster a sense of community and accountability among book lovers.
"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enhello everyone today i'm here to do a tag video so i've kind of already done a new year's tag one of my own tags my only attack i don't know i'm saying that new year's tag but then i saw this one it's called the january book tag because it was created by a youtuber named jan agatin i'll link it down below but this one really goes into kind of um more goals and stuff and i really wanted to talk about that so this is going to be like a january book tag but also a reading goals video so i thought let's just do it it's the end of january it's still the new year we can still talk about goals we can do it let's do it so let's get into it the first question is what was the last and first book if you remember book you read last year thanks to goodreads i know the first book i read in 2021 was much ado about you by suzanne young which was an adult romance that i didn't really enjoy it's about a character that had like a she wanted to change and so she moved to like i want to say she moved to scotland and she like owned a bookstore and wanted to quiet her life and it sounded amazing but it was just kind of meh kind of my whole reading year for the year honestly was just kind of meh i want to change that this year and my last read was another knit read and that is the worst wonderful time of the year it was a novella it was a holiday novella i was just trying to crank all the holiday novellas out at the end of the year this one couldn't even tell it was about it didn't even need to be written it was like 69 pages of like nothingness there's no plot to it i don't know next up is what was your first read of this year and i do know that one as well and that's a flicker in the dark by stacy willingham this is a mystery thriller that i read that was kind of a get met one year i will read a book that is not meh for the very beginning of the year next up we have share three of your reading goals this year and i thought this would be great number one is read more different genres i've said time and time again that i read prior primarily romance books which is great but looking back over 2021 books all of them were just kind of met there was a few romance letters that were amazing but i just kind of just stuck with romance because it was easy and fast to read and you know 2021 was a hard year you know i got pregnant and i had my second child so it was tough so i read quick and fast reads this year i want to read different genres i want to scope out i want to read more speaking of that is more backless books that's another those are my two biggest goals here is to read more variety and to read more backlist books i have a whole video that i talked about 20 22 books i want to read in 2022 that i want to get to because they're backless books and i want to read and then my last goal kind of goes all in all with this and that is quality versus quantity the past couple years i've been focused on the numbers like i got to read my goodreads goal i got to read enough i got to read a ton i don't want to do that anymore i want to read quality books because honestly since i have a five month old baby and a special needs child i don't have a lot of time to read so i may be i think maybe at most i can read seven books a month if i'm really pushing myself maybe eight i don't know maybe seven is pushing myself so i've got to start really picking what books i really want to read and not just be like oh this new romance came out in that game let me check it out and read it to my you know i want to read more quality books books i want to read so those are my three main goals will i accomplish them all i really hope so which goals did you not read not reach last year i think i wanted to read 100 books i didn't i read 89. i didn't really put myself goals last year i don't think at all so there you go are there any new releases this year you've heard of that you have no desire to read this one's going to hurt a lot of people i mean there could be several if there's a cassandra clare book coming out notice how to read it i have 100 quit her books i'm just i think i've grown out of them not interested in them anymore i don't have any desire to read them another one that's really going to hurt is what is it called reminders of him by colleen hoover i've read lots of colleen horror books before and i just i don't i don't love her writing i think a lot of her relationships in her books are kind of toxic that's just me i know a lot of you guys love colleen hoover and that's great you keep on loving her that's awesome i'm just not interested in her books i really am not i just i'm not that's just how it is for me what are some reading habits you want to change this year if any um i wrote down this stop pigeonholing myself into reading just one genre read more variety and more diversely and that is exactly the sentence i'm going to say with that that is 100 true i want to stop just pigeonholing myself into romance because they're easy quick reads and read more different ones and with that read more sci-fi like i want to read more sci-fi because i just haven't read a lot and i want to read more i even made a graphic on instagram like i think it was sci-fi books i want to read this year and i think i put like 10 or 12 i think i'm not 100 sure but i want to read more and i'm gonna try to do it and then there are there any adaptations you're excited about now i don't watch adaptations anymore i couldn't tell you i said i watched the hating game i was going to do a whole video about it but then time got away from me so i couldn't so that was only one that i watched and it was okay i didn't think it needed to be made but i love the hating game the book so i don't know um i don't yeah not a lot of adaptations that i like get super excited for anymore i think the time for that for me has kind of come and gone sad to say favorite bookish memory of last year i i couldn't tell you if it was year before it'd be like tim's the season of the fun my own readathon but it's not so i don't have one of last year gill marathon did i have did i run the guild marathon list this year no i did not i don't know i don't know um and the last question is carryovers from last year that's that you still plan on finishing i don't i read one book at a time that's just kind of my jam very rarely do i try to dabble into two or three then my brain just kind of just like shuts down so i don't have any that i've started that i need to finish there's books that are on here that i just need to straight up read so no so there you have the january book tag i had a fun time doing this i thought it was just a fun tag to do to talk more about my goals because the more i talk about them the more they will come into fruition for me that's my goal for this whole year is to just speak them into existence to do it so i'd love to know if you want to do this tag do it um and what your goals are for
