The Moto G's USB OTG Functionality: Expanding Your Device's Capabilities
In this article, we will explore the USB OTG (On-The-Go) functionality on the Motorola Moto G. The Moto G comes in two variants: 8 GB and 16 GB. One of the notable features of this device is its absence of a micro SD card slot. However, it does support USB OTG, which allows users to expand their device's capabilities by connecting external accessories.
To use the USB OTG functionality on the Moto G, you need to purchase a compatible USB OTG cable. The cable should have one end with a micro USB port and the other end with a standard USB port. This allows you to plug in various adapters, such as thumb drives, keyboards, and mice. In this article, we will demonstrate how to use the USB OTG cable on the Moto G.
First, let's plug in the USB OTG cable and insert the pen drive. As soon as we plug it in, the pen drive will start glowing, indicating that it is being powered by the device. We have some video files on this pen drive, so we will play one of them using the MX Video Player. To do this, we will use the USB disc on the pen drive and insert it into the device. The 1080p video clip plays smoothly, demonstrating that the USB OTG cable is working perfectly. We can now load up our media files, such as video files, onto the thumb drive and view them using the USB OTG cable.
As we remove the USB OTG cable from the device, it's essential to note that this feature also works with keyboards and mice. We will demonstrate this by connecting a Logitech K400 keyboard to the device. The keyboard has a built-in trackpad, but we can use regular USB keyboards as well. To connect the keyboard, we need to plug in the wireless receiver. Once connected, the keyboard works seamlessly on the device, allowing us to type and navigate using the trackpad.
In addition to keyboards and mice, we also noticed that the Moto G supports connecting a PS3 controller via USB OTG cable. While it powered fine, unfortunately, it was not working as expected. This limitation highlights the importance of compatibility when using USB OTG cables on various devices. However, this is not a significant drawback, as the device still offers a range of possibilities for expanding its capabilities.
In conclusion, the Motorola Moto G's USB OTG functionality allows users to expand their device's capabilities by connecting external accessories such as thumb drives, keyboards, and mice. The device comes with a compatible USB OTG cable that enables seamless connectivity with various adapters. While there may be some limitations, the benefits of using this feature outweigh the drawbacks.
