The Future of Gaming: A Conversation with Austin
Hey guys, this is Austin, and I'm here at the AMD APU 13 developer event today to talk about what I think is going to happen in the future of gaming.
For me, the next generation of consoles seems like a small step forward for PC gaming. With more optimized operating systems, I believe we're on the cusp of something big. Everyone in the industry is trying to bring PC and console gaming closer together, and I think Sony's approach this time around is completely different from what they did last time.
When it comes to console gaming today, it's almost like playing a PC, but with a different platform. That's what I see currently, and that's what I think will continue to happen in the future. As a hardcore gamer with over 30 years of experience, I get excited when we talk about video gaming.
One area that's really growing right now is small form factor PCs. They're becoming more and more prevalent, and it's not hard to see why – there are some amazing case designs coming out from various partners. We're really focusing on the gaming segment because we think that's where the market is growing, and we want to push into that market.
The future of 4K gaming is also looking very bright. I've seen some incredible monitors in our lab, including sharp 32-inch 4K monitors that were last year priced at $7,000 – this year they're down to $4,000. Of course, 4K is the current standard for resolution, and I think it's about to become even bigger.
Virtual reality is another area where I think we're on the cusp of something amazing. The Oculus Rift is a relatively simple hardware platform, but from a pure component standpoint, it's incredibly powerful. Our vision is that virtual reality will be available on any device anywhere – it's not there yet, but I can see the beginning of something incredible.
What's happening with the industry and gamers for this technology is really exciting. Most people haven't had the opportunity to experience being immersed in a virtual reality world before, but our goal is just to make things as immersive and real as possible to blur the lines between reality and virtual reality.
WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enhey guys this is Austin so today I'm here at the AMD Apu 13 developer event with one question what is the future of gaming for me I kind of view the nextg consoles as a kind of small F in Factor PC with uh more optimized operating system at least in the PS4 side um for gaming so what I've noticed uh what everyone's been trying to do in the industry is trying to bring PC and console gaming closer together you know Sony's approach this time around it's completely different than what they did last time um you know it was like really developed Ecentric it was like okay how can we make this easier for you to make games on I mean console gaming these days is Almost Pretty it's pretty much a it's a PC but you know a different platform but that's that is what I see currently what I think is going to happen in the future uh in the next couple years yeah I am a gamer I'm a hardcore gamer and have been for over 30 years so I get excited when we talk video gaming small form Factor PC is a big deal small form factor builds are the New Black in the DIY industry uh small form factor is becoming more and more uh prevalent um you know there's a lot of really cool case designs that have been coming out from various Partners you know we're really focusing on the gaming smaller form factor cuz I think that's the part of the segment that is is growing right now and we see that market and we're trying to uh push to that market so it's really cool to see this happening gaming on the PC has the chance to move more mainstream 4K I think is about to become really really big uh we have some monitors in our lab these sharp 32in 4K monitors uh last year they were $7,000 the this year they're $4,000 and of course 4K uh is is the current you know that's I think that's like the peak of the resolution you know you you almost can't distinguish beyond that and uh you know going 3D from that point it's going to be amazing we really do believe it's finally the time for virtual reality to that new experience the Oculus Rift is actually a relatively simple Hardware platform I mean there's a lot of work that goes into the Optics but from a from a pure component standpoint it's USB and HDMI it's really the our vision is that virtual reality will be on any any device anywhere it's not really there yet but just seeing the beginning of something that can really truly become great and become really quite disruptive in the sense of it's a completely different experience once you get that that working Aon is now actually in this experience so what he's seeing is fully immersive it feels like he's really there he's floating around uh 360° he can look up he can look down I mean he literally just went into the elemental world he is no longer here at the conference Oculus for sure uh obviously you can see the excitement in the industry and and amongst Gamers for this technology it's really all about being there being inside of a virtual world most people haven't ever had the opportunity or the experience of being immersed inside a virtual reality world before and our goal is just making things as immersive and as real as they can be to
