Nintendo Switch review

The Nintendo Switch: A Revolutionary Console for the Modern Gamer

For the past week, I've been playing The Legend of Zelda game on my new Nintendo Switch console, and it's been an experience like no other. The switch is an expansive and ambitious console that feels like a mashup of both the Wii U and traditional gaming consoles. It's a tablet-like device with a 6.2-inch display, making it easy to hold at a comfortable distance and use in various environments.

One of the biggest selling points for the Switch is its ability to take the same experience on the go, offering a decade-long portability that's unprecedented in the gaming industry. This is thanks to Nintendo's commitment to innovative hardware designs, such as the Joy-Con controllers that attach to either side of the console. The Joy-Con features a console-style button layout with two joysticks, over a dozen buttons, and even a dedicated capture button for taking screenshots.

The Switch also comes with a kickstand, allowing users to prop it up and play in a more comfortable position. I've found myself slouching less while playing on the Switch due to its large size and easy-to-hold design. The console's standard USBC plug makes charging relatively straightforward, although I've yet to find a battery pack that can charge it faster than the console itself.

One of the most interesting features of the Switch is its collection of mini-games and quirky experiences. There are plenty of games like "Eat Sandwiches" and "Milk a Cow," which showcase Nintendo's commitment to creative innovation. While these mini-games may not be everyone's cup of tea, they add to the overall sense of fun and experimentation that comes with playing on the Switch.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is arguably the biggest selling point for the Switch, and I can see why it's such a hit. The game offers an expansive and ambitious experience that feels like it was made specifically for the console. Playing on the go has allowed me to appreciate the game's vast open world in ways I never could have before. Whether I'm exploring dungeons or simply enjoying the scenery, the Switch is the perfect companion for this incredible adventure.

The Switch's dock serves as both a charging station and an output device for video signals, making it easy to plug in your TV and start playing. While the dock may feel a bit bulkier than expected, it's clear that Nintendo has put thought into its design. The dock will likely be revised in future versions of the console, but for now, it does the job.

One area where the Switch falls short is in terms of graphical power compared to other consoles like the Xbox One and PlayStation 4. However, Nintendo has made a conscious decision not to prioritize raw graphics processing over creative freedom and innovation. Instead, they've opted to focus on delivering an experience that's tailored to their specific brand of gaming.

The future of the Switch is uncertain, but one thing is clear: Nintendo needs to support it well in order for it to reach its full potential. With a lineup of innovative games like Breath of the Wild and other titles in development, there's no shortage of excitement for this revolutionary console.

"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enyeah okay what don't we just like scrap this video all together and just like record a bunch of these clicking sounds this is like really really satisfying watch this yeah you he that no okay um all right fine let's do this for the last week I've been playing The New Legend of Zelda game pretty much non-stop it's a an expansive and ambitious game one that I'd probably sit on a couch for hours and hours at a time to play but I haven't been playing on the couch because while the new Nintendo switch is pretty interesting as a Home console it's also capable of taking that exact same experience on the go for over a decade now Nintendo's been making these kind of weird non-traditional gaming consoles in the case with the Wii company found massive success it's follow up the Wii U not so much the new Nintendo switch actually feels like a mash up of both those consoles it's a tablet like the Wii U although way more portable and also has two Wii remotes of sensibly improved versions that nintend is calling the joycon that attach to each side now the biggest selling point for the switch at launch is without question The Legend of Zelda breath of the wild and I can't stress this enough there's something very satisfying about playing a full Zelda experience anywhere I want this is me killing gerblins while moving to our next film location and again again and again now I'm killing gerlings at a launder mat and Yep this is me killing gerblins and a surprisingly rainf free day just outside the ferry building the tablet itself is slightly heavier than a Nintendo 3DS or Playstation vaita but with a 6.2 in 720p display it's also easier to hold at a more comfortable distance found myself slouching less for example it's also large enough that if I want I can pop out the kickstand and play leaning back so let's talk about the joycons combine they form a console style button layout complete with two joystick in over a dozen buttons including a dedicated capture button for taking screenshots there's a bundle grip peripheral that you can slide the joy-cons into and it does make it feel a little bit sturdier but honestly you can play without that much like the Wii remotes before them the joycons can be held either vertically like a wand or horizontally like a little Super Nintendo Gamepad and it's through these that you really see weird Nintendo come out the launch tile one 12 switch is just full of mini games where you do things like eat sandwiches like literally with your mouth or milk a cow um do I really need to give another example that those are literally things that happen and I cannot get weirder than that but today isn't about shared social experiences today is all about Zelda and being able to play and explore its crazy open world environment wherever and whenever I want at least for about 2 to 3 hours which is the battery life I consistently been getting so while it is a portable machine you're really only going to be playing it in small bursts it does have a standard USBC plug for charging though to be honest at this point we have yet to find a battery pack that will charge it faster than it actually drains so I've spent a few hours getting some fresh air and shooting this video and now it's time to return back to my TV lean back on the couch and continue the game where I left off the switches dock serves to both charge the console and output a video signal over HDMI it's a bit bulkier than it feels like it needs to be and I have to believe Nintendo's going to make a more Paar down version in the future but I will say it's impressive how smooth it is when docking the tablet but the dock is really just a place for the switch to go charge while the tablet handles all the processing the Nvidia Integra chip is nowhere near as powerful as what the Xbox One or PlayStation 4 offer but to be fair the switch isn't trying to compete in graphical prowess and as far as online goes that's still a pretty big mystery with just days ago before launch we know next to nothing about how the switch will handle downloading games or playing online with friends but all platforms evolve and with the switch you're not only buying Hardware you're making a bet on the software Nintendo has taken some very weird creative risks here with the hardware and they largely pay off the switch is the best way to play one of the best Zelda games ever but the big question is what comes after that and when the switch has all the potential to be a hit Nintendo just has to support it will we get a free portrait sorryyeah okay what don't we just like scrap this video all together and just like record a bunch of these clicking sounds this is like really really satisfying watch this yeah you he that no
