How to Root the HTC MyTouch 3G: A Step-by-Step Guide
Hey guys, it's David from UnlockMyPhone.com, and welcome back to our channel! Today, we're going to walk you through a step-by-step guide on how to root your HTC MyTouch 3G. Before we begin, please note that this method is only for the older models of the MyTouch 3G without the 3.5mm headphone jack at the top. If you have a newer model with this feature, you'll need to use a different rooting method.
First things first, make sure you're on the right page. Head over to our website and search for "how-to-root-htc-mytouch-3g" in the address bar. Once you've found your way here, let's get started!
To begin, we need to downgrade our device to Cupcake 1.5. So, download the original sap IMG NBH file by clicking on it and downloading it to your computer. Now, plug your MyTouch 3G into your computer via USB cable. When the notification pops up, pull it down and click "Mount" so we can transfer files to our SD card.
Next, take the sap IMG NBH file that you just downloaded and copy it over to our SD card. We want to put this file on the root of our SD card, so make sure to select the correct option in your file manager. The pass should be set to "removable disc," and then we'll add the file itself to the folder.
Once you've completed these steps, unplug your MyTouch 3G from your computer and turn it off. Now, turn it back on by holding down the power button and volume down at the same time. Keep holding until you see the H boot mode come up, and then wait for it to start looking for the sappi mg that MBH.
As soon as it says it's found the update, push the track ball to start the action. Wait for this process to complete, and then your device will ask if you want to restart. Push "yes" and wait for it to reboot.
Once your device has restarted, go through the setup process as usual. When you get to the settings menu, click on "applications," and make sure that "unknown sources" is turned on. Now, head back to our SD card and click on "unmount" followed by "format." This will erase everything on your SD card.
Please note that this step is necessary for us to proceed with the rooting process. Don't worry; everything will be reinstated once we've completed it.
Now that we have our SD card formatted, let's plug our MyTouch 3G back into the computer via USB cable and pull down the notification. Click on "mount" so we can transfer files again.
From our website, download two more files: The Flash Recck APK and I'm On Ra's recovery image. Save these files to your computer, as we'll need them in a minute. Now, take the flash Recck APK and copy it over to our SD card. We want to put this file on the root of our SD card again, so select the correct option in your file manager.
Once you've completed this step, unplug your MyTouch 3G from your computer and head back to the market app. Search for "Linda l i n dait" and download it once it's available. Wait for this to install before proceeding.
Now that L is installed, click on the SD card option followed by the Flash Recck APK. Click "install," then "open," and you'll see a slide-through screen. Type in "SD card SL recovery .mg" without any spaces, making sure it's correct. Once you've done this, you should see the flash recovery image no longer be grayed out.
Click on that now to complete the rooting process. Congratulations! You've successfully rooted your HTC MyTouch 3G.
Please note that once we've completed this process, your device will go into recovery mode and prompt you to select an option from the menu. Don't worry; we'll guide you through each step. If you're unsure about anything, feel free to ask in the comments below!
After completing these steps, you should see a variety of options on your screen. Choose the option that corresponds to your device's model number and follow the prompts to complete the rooting process.
