**A Review of "After" Movie Adaptation: A Comparative Analysis**

As someone who has read the book, I was eager to see how the movie adaptation would translate the story onto the big screen. The film's portrayal of Tessa Young, played by Josephine Langford, is a highlight of the movie. She does a great job making Tessa a likable character, and her chemistry with hero Hardin Scott, played by Hero Fiennes-Tiffin, is undeniable. The quick transition from strangers to lovers is certainly a key aspect of the book, but it's interesting to see how the film condenses this timeline. While the actors did a great job bringing the characters to life, I found Hardin's character in the movie to be slightly stiff compared to his more brooding and manipulative nature in the books.

One notable difference between the book and the movie is the way the characters' relationships are portrayed. In the film, there's less emphasis on Tessa's past experiences with boys, which makes her seem more innocent and naive. While this is definitely a aspect of her character, it feels like the movie glosses over some of the emotional depth that Tessa has in the books. Additionally, the way Hardin's family is introduced is different from the book, where his mother is much more overtly hostile towards him.

The supporting characters in the film are also worth mentioning. Steph, Tessa's roommate, is a great addition to the cast and brings a lot of energy to the movie. Her character feels relatively consistent with the book, but it would be interesting to see more development of her storyline in future adaptations. Landon, Hardin's friend, is also well-cast and adds a nice dynamic to the film.

One aspect that I think was done particularly well in the movie is the soundtrack. The songs featured in the film are catchy and memorable, and they definitely add to the overall atmosphere of the movie. The film also does a great job capturing the mood and tone of the book, especially during the more emotional scenes.

Another key difference between the book and the movie is the way the story concludes. While the film doesn't provide a cliffhanger ending like the book did, it does show Tessa's character growth and development as she navigates her feelings for Hardin. The reconciliation with her mother also feels like a more positive and uplifting conclusion compared to the book.

**Personal Thoughts and Expectations**

Going into this movie, I have to admit that I was a bit skeptical about how well it would translate the book. However, I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed the film. As someone who has read the book multiple times, I appreciate seeing the characters and story come to life on screen. The acting in the movie is convincing, especially for Josephine Langford's portrayal of Tessa.

**A Fan's Perspective**

I think what struck me most about this movie was its faithfulness to the original story. As a fan of the book series, it was reassuring to see that the filmmakers took the time to get the character dynamics and relationships right. The chemistry between Hardin and Tessa is undeniable, and their romance feels authentic and engaging.

**A Different Perspective**

I think one of the most interesting aspects of this movie is how it deviates from the book in certain ways. While some fans may be disappointed by these changes, I think they actually enhance the story and make it feel more grounded in reality. The way the film handles Tessa's relationships with her family and friends feels more realistic and nuanced compared to the book.

**A Fun but Different Take**

I have to say that I thoroughly enjoyed this movie adaptation. As someone who has read the book, I appreciated seeing the characters and story come to life on screen. While it took some creative liberties, I think these changes actually made the film feel more dynamic and engaging. The soundtrack, in particular, is a highlight of the movie, and I found myself singing along to the songs throughout.

**A Recommendation**

Overall, I would definitely recommend this movie adaptation to fans of the book series. While it may not be entirely faithful to the original story, it captures the essence of the characters and their relationships in a way that feels true to the spirit of the books. The chemistry between the leads is undeniable, and the film's portrayal of Tessa's growth and development as she navigates her feelings for Hardin is both authentic and engaging.

**A Final Thought**

As I watched this movie, I couldn't help but think about what fans of the book series might be looking for in a adaptation. While some may have been disappointed by certain changes or omissions, I think these deviations actually enhance the story and make it feel more unique on screen. As someone who has read the books multiple times, it was reassuring to see that the filmmakers took the time to get the character dynamics and relationships right. Overall, I would definitely recommend this movie adaptation to fans of the book series, and I look forward to seeing how future adaptations might continue to evolve the story.

"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enI caught you on camera bit welcome back to my channel today we're going to see after by Anna Todd I'm not even looking in the lens but now I always look at myself I know what's so hard and you have to flip up anyway we're very excited Spencer has never read after I don't read books that's true we got two perspectives oh we do that's why I think this is gonna be that hero cannot act but also that the movie is a lot better than the book like it's less problematic so it'll be interesting to see how things go I'm excited I'm excited I mean like is it gonna be as good as the kissing booth probably not but like I I'm ready to find out on it to be shitty it makes it so much but I'm sure it'll deliver yes anyway we'll check in with you guys afterwards to do our like full review back home with the ring light it's gonna be good Pepe will also be there we can get the best seats so we just got done with after like an hour two ago and we've had time to like stew with our thoughts and we thought we would give you our review on after so I have read the book she has not what would you say like if you're ready to give it a 1 through 5 rating what would you give it I'm leaning women two and a three right now I may give it a three and a half perhaps a four high generous I really enjoyed it and I think that a lot of my judgment is based on the fact that like I have read the book and the movie was such an improvement it's up to you because like the book was written in 2014 so like that's not that long ago although we have come a long way since 2014 I feel like yeah I think your thing is though since you read the book and it was an improvement that's why you may like think it's better better you just going in seeing that movie I was like gross not like the problem is a little problematic to say to Lucy I just agree I didn't really find it that problematic that's that I was gonna say it's like I think I mean if you've read the book I mean I did a whole vlog on the book but the story it's just up bleh but there's like there's a bet about virginity and Hardin coerces her to do things he's emotionally manipulative and abusive and some of they're like sexual experiences aren't exactly consensual in my opinion that was what I found like most great I think about the movie there is a sex scene I heard a lot of talk before I went into this movie because my friends have all seen it before I did about the sex not happening like there wasn't sex but there actually was a sex scene obviously it wasn't like explicit and graphic but it definitely happened and there was definitely consent discussed multiple times throughout the encounter he asked clay sure you want to do this as they're doing it he's like are you sure you still okay when she says it hurts he's like do you want to stop I thought that was really cool yeah which I just I didn't expect it like I did expect it to be less problematic I just didn't expect it to go that far in the opposite direction and like I was pretty impressed with that the story itself I mean it just like feels like oh I'm just watching it if had I not known it was a wife had fanfic like at first I would have still known that it was a woman oh yeah I see it like the plot like your name like it just felt like that like she said that like red she's so innocent oh my god like he wears a leather jacket and has tattoos yes like one outfit for like the first million scenes of the movie I just can't do it and if we were we were curious like if he was going to switch off his outfit but in the book he only wears Phoenix so yeah actually we're like scoop necks though you know a little modern twist yeah in the back I'm just chillin but oh my god oh I have you know yes we actually like took notes the only note that I have in here is that hard and likes to annotate so oh he had a copy of weathering heights in his room and he had like little tabs in it and you know I looked uber I really respected it oh my god I thought they were blank like wouldn't like I couldn't see any writing on them I could maybe they were just a hole in his favorite passages okay I mean I'm not intentionally post it's whatever he wants I have a few my notes say lame boyfriend no shower shoes hair dry fat okay no like the opening scene you know Tessa is going take a shower in the communal bathroom then she comes back and hardens in her room as she like has a towel on and you know naked under there but as she's stepping out of the shower she's not wearing shower shoes in a communal bathroom and um I have questions like one does she have a complete split this has got fungus no but like right after she came out of the shower her hair was almost dry and I just want to know how because there was no scene of her blow drying her hair the timeline was just off for me wake up God she's also I wrote cool leather jacket an innocent white yeah just further like just typical like oh my god okay she wears like a kindergarten teacher oh they really do yeah there's me so the Blake scene or whatever you chose he takes her to the lake or whatever in his cool cars cool classic car she's wearing this like white eyelet dress it's very modest and he's wearing his leather jacket black t-shirt of course she borrows the black t-shirt her boyfriend okay actually you say lame boyfriend in the book he is way more lame he has like gelled hair you and he's blonde apparently and like looks like Tessa even more so than Harden back in the movie I don't know I think her actions like wallet there is still like cheating essentially in the movie I think it wasn't as up whenever she's having her altercation at the end with Noah when they break up she doesn't include Hardin and it like Hardin steps in in the book he's like are you gonna tell him about what we did and I'm glad that that wasn't the case in the movie that was nice yeah I still felt weird about it though the fact that he went although I got to visit her and she can go home to him yeah I don't know I could never like it was it was still I don't know there were enough parallels to where I felt like it was similar to the book like that did happen where you know he comes to town and she goes to like take care of Hardin and spends the night with Hardin's also she who thought it was a good idea to just pick up glass with your bare hands who does that you always only oh I need to go get a broom and like the little dustpan so you don't scratch fingers of course he's gonna help this was the scene basically where she goes to clean up after harden and his mess at Landon and Ken and these are named Karen Karen's house also I like how many like tenderly cares for her and then just proceeds to like go to town on her box even though she's never done anything in her life was it his mom Kim oh no she was ready okay yeah it went out clear not clear and I assume she was right because he like did Senate or IP you know like if mom in the bio like there's nothing like that I'm like okay yeah no and you don't think it's that explicit in the book I think it it's almost worded identical to the book I wish they had been were explicit about it although I do like that since his I don't know if this is like me looking too much into it I do like the fact that since his mom was actually assaulted in the movie at least he is very good about taking into account her boundaries so yeah doesn't ever try to like get fresh with her so cuz I knew about that even though I didn't read the book oh yeah there were no bloody sheets which was awesome and I know it's weird like I heard so many mixed things and from a lot of the fan accounts on like Instagram I heard that there was gonna be no internship there was going to be no apartment together which is a total lie like that definitely happened she definitely moves out of her dorm to live with Harden the internship is a little different like we don't get in-depth look at what her internship looks like but she does get the internship and I'm sure like if there's a second movie we'll see more of that I think it was a really good adaptation I think it took all the best parts of the book and made it even better personally so yeah like I didn't really enjoy the soundtrack the sound is beautiful especially their little links bar I thought that was cute there's a really peaceful scene when they were just like in there and like oh the montage shots like in the apartment is apartment it was like a house apartment I don't really know it's some sort of shared space but it was so cute the bathtub scene oh okay right we're not gonna spoil anything but there's cute I think I said no pinkie tail I meant to say ponytail but I was very struck oh yeah so I've noticed this in movies and in TV shows where the like protagonist who's like kind of virginal or whatever she ends up having like a ponytail or like a bun through the majority of it until she meets the guy and that she starts wearing her hair down and we did know this about was the case in this - yeah why does letting your hair down all the sudden make you a wild crazy I don't know when I put my hair up I'm getting wild you know like I don't know a lot of the scenes with them were super cute I don't feel like we really had any scenes of them dating in the book like they basically go for like 0 to 100 start living together like there's no like lead-up they don't go on dates there were no like there was no aquarium scene in the book but there is what was the aquarium after they were together but I think it was maybe I'm getting confused I still don't get felt a little quick for me when they moved in together oh it was definitely quick and I think that was kind of the intention and I still made more sense to me than it did in the book but but yeah it is quick for sure I don't think I would be moving in with my boyfriend at 18 that's just me mom okay her mom did overreact although I will say in the book they don't reconcile at all her mom says I'm cutting you off and then she goes moving with Harden and that's it whereas in this one once she kind of has her falling-out with hardened because that's the thing like this movie doesn't end on the same cliffhanger we do find out about the bet but we also get her kind of trying to rebuild her life afterwards and not immediately going back to hearten it's kind of like gonna be her choice I'm assuming and in that time period she reconciles with her mom and I really like that like her mom did overreact of course I think she should have heard her out about having a boyfriend why is the boyfriend so detrimental but I thought it was okay like I didn't think it was like crazy yeah like definitely the acting was pretty convincing for me I mean there's a little cringing Queen oh yeah true let's get into acting I didn't think was how about everybody warned me about Hardin so I think I went in with like low expectations and he didn't do great it was a little stiff also hardens character in the books weird anyway alright that's not a very emotional guy he's the kind of and in the movie he's not manipulative he's just a little stiff and like I'll take that over emotionally this basically just when he was reciting passages from my books I just didn't know it like it didn't feel genuine yes it really did I mean it felt like he had memorized said but not in like a like a which means a lot to be pleased so I can pull it out for girls for sure that's what it felt like for me - yeah I think she did a great job I think she did a really good job making Tessa a likable character in my opinion I sympathize with her and I understood why she would want to be with it like this scene where she is going to her first class in economics and she meets what's-his-name Lyndon and they kind of have this little like laugh Jim about entering the classroom it was just really cute and it made me like her yeah she was like virginal but like not you're attaining yeah not that virgins are irritating cranky dokey girl yeah she was like I don't know it seemed she did a really good job with acting I thought I thought she really did a good job with the character the other side characters I liked their roommate a lot yeah Steph was great Steph was pretty cool in the first book - I hope that in the next movie is they keep step as a cool character because I know that in the books chance of becoming shitty I thought Landon was really well cast I wish we would have seen more of him though because I think there were more interactions in the actual book it's like hard to remember the names pink hair girl Molly annoying Molly is annoying and she's also annoying in the books I think they did a good job I mean yeah if that's what they were going for he did great I don't really have that much else to say I thoroughly enjoyed it it was better than I expected the consent like I said was like extra cool for me and surprising I like the characters like the cast and I like to soundtrack so honestly I would recommend this which is surprising to say I think it's a fun like summary movie I would say yeah we get stuff like it feels good
