Gaming With The New 6GB RTX 3050

**Fortnite Performance with DX11 Mode and High Settings**

I run Fortnite in DX11 mode with medium settings 100% 3D res and TAA, which produced a decent 140 FPS. This is an impressive result, especially considering the high level of visual detail and anti-aliasing. By reducing certain options or dropping down to lower presets, it's possible to increase performance even further. For example, lowering the resolution or turning off some visual effects can help unlock higher frame rates.

**Performance Comparison with Other Games**

To put this into perspective, I tested Fortnite against other popular games at various resolutions and settings. In GTA 5, which is an older game, I was able to hit over 100 FPS with high preset settings and low MSAA, but disabling it improved performance. Marvel Spider-Man Remastered, on the other hand, required some tweaking to achieve a smooth frame rate of 82 FPS at high settings. However, the game's upscaling options were not necessary, and reducing them helped improve performance.

**Minecraft RTX Performance with Ray Tracing**

I also tested Minecraft RTX, which is an impressive showcase for the 6 GB card's capabilities. With the default settings and render chunks distance enabled, I saw a significant boost in performance, from around 25-26 FPS to over 30 FPS when upscaling was enabled. This is a great example of how the card can handle demanding games with ray tracing.

**Red Dead Redemption 2 Performance**

Next, I tested Red Dead Redemption 2, which runs smoothly at high settings on the Xbox One X console equivalent settings or even at 1080p. With these settings and entry-level graphics card capabilities, I was able to achieve a consistent frame rate of around 60 FPS, with only minor dips and drops.

**Starfield Performance with DLSS**

I also tested Starfield, which requires more demanding hardware due to its advanced graphics features. While the low preset struggled to hit 60 FPS at 100% render resolution, enabling DLSS (Deep Learning Super Sampling) and setting it to balanced mode improved performance significantly. This is a great example of how DLSS can help unlock higher frame rates in demanding games.

**The Witcher 3 Performance**

Finally, I tested The Witcher 3, which runs smoothly at high settings with the next-gen version of the game. With SSAA on and SSR off, screen space reflection set to low, I saw a very nice result overall. While it's possible to bump up some visual options, it's also clear that the card is capable of handling demanding games without sacrificing performance.

**Conclusion**

Overall, the 6 GB 3050 is a pretty capable 1080p gaming card, but its true potential is limited by its memory capacity and power consumption. While it may not be suitable for every game at high settings, it's still a great option for those with limited space or power. The low profile version will be particularly appealing to builders who need to save space or reduce power consumption. In comparison, the 8 GB version offers more headroom for demanding games and applications. I'll have a follow-up article comparing these two versions soon.

**Recommendations**

If you're in the market for a new GPU and have limited budget, consider checking out prices for older 8 GB cards or RX 6600 models. These may offer better value than the 6 GB 3050 at similar price points. Additionally, be sure to check out the used market for these GPUs, as they may be available for less than their original price.

**Disclaimer**

Keep in mind that ray tracing and DLSS are best left enabled in most instances, but may not always produce the desired results. In some cases, reducing or disabling these features can help improve performance.

"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enhello everyone and welcome to another video now today we're looking at the new and um unimproved RTX 3050 this is a 6 GB version of the card it has less cores than its older 8 GB counterpart a 96-bit bus width and perhaps most notably a lower TDP of just 70 Watts down from 130 this means that these 6 GB models lack a power connector and will therefore be ideal for systems with weaker psus or no additional cables there are also a few lowprofile models about making them perfect for smaller form factor systems the one I have here is the zotek solo version which seems to be at the lower end of the 160 to2 200 price bracket that 6 GB 3050s seem to go for here in the UK in some cases older 8 GB versions aren't much more expensive especially if you're no stranger to the used Market but that's a comparison for another day today we're focusing solely on what one of the most capable slot powered gpus can do let's get into the first of our 16 tested games let's start off with a real challenge for this card Allen wake 2 for some games I've stuck with Native 1080p resolution and in others I've included upscaled gaml using DSS when necessary alen White 2 was one of these examples at Native 1080p with the lowest settings the performance was pretty good 51 FPS on average with a 1% low of 42 and a. 1% low of 35 5 the game still looks great and if we look at the onscreen stats we can see that the card isn't exceeding 70 wats of power and the temperature is remaining very reasonable for closer to 60 FPS dlss quality is required but this means we can also push the settings up a bit the low preset keeps a few of the visual options at higher values and this time around we hit 59 FPS on average with similar percenti lows as before Apex Legends is an online competitive FPS game and as such the more frames the better that said there's no in keeping a couple of the settings turned up in this case the Textra streaming budget was left at very high and tsaa was enabled too across three random games the average frame rate was 193 with percenti lows of 144 and 109 respectively in borders Gate 3 I stuck a native 1080p resolution and made use of the medium preset for close to 70 FPS average I've paired the card with an i5 processor today which will allow it to reach its maximum potential throughout but honestly even a modern I3 or older ryzen 5 would be a fine pairing for one of these two this card could still stretch its legs in Call of Duty war zone the basic presets fine for at least 60 FPS but I did notice some drops below this in game sometimes to around the high faes this isn't ideal and the same thing happened with even lower settings with that said enabling dlss quality mode again really smooth things out not only making a huge difference to our average figure but improving the 1 and. 1% lows Counter Strike 2 was problem three this seems to be more GPU demanding than its predecessor and in this case we saw 281 FPS with the low preset FSR will default to balanced with this preset but I turned it off as it wasn't necessary here there are a couple of ways we can enjoy cyberpunk 2077 with at least 60 FPS the first is to set everything to the lowest settings manually and disable any form of upscaling the game still looks decent if not a little empty but surprisingly the RTX 3056 gig manages 73 FPS and even the 1% figure stays above 60 just alternatively we can make use of dlss quality mode again as well as bumping things up to the medium preset with medium crowds the game looks a little better for it and we saw just under 80 FPS with these visual options The Experience remained very consistent as well not bad for a low power entry-level RTX card we will get into the butts later however Elder ring by default has a 60 FPS cap that I tend to leave in place the 3056 gig hit this with the high preset the only things I changed as usual were the depth of field and motion blur settings which I tend to disable in every game as a personal preference Fallout 4 has seen a bit of a Resurgence in popularity thanks to the TV show so I thought i' throw it back into the benchmarks because it does run pretty well on a wide range of Hardware that said it does have an FPS app and this is usually best left enabled to avoid certain issues with physics and gameplay now that said it's clear from this 120 FPS average with the ultra preset that there are no issues here so if you're looking to play this for the first time or get back into it you shouldn't have any problems especially with a modern entrylevel 30 series card I'm pretty sure there are still some problems with an uncapped FPS though but there's probably a mod to sort things out right I run fortnite in dx11 mode with the medium settings 100% 3D res and TAA this produced a decent 140 FPS though if you want higher than this reducing a couple of options or dropping down to the low preset would give you a nice bump in performance this also has a dx12 option and performance mode so we could enable enhanced visual effects if we wanted which with this card isn't really worth it or we could go the complete opposite end of the visual Spectrum to maximize the frame rate at the expense of most of the graphical Fidelity for to Horizon 5 as usual really well dare I say we could have gone even higher in terms of settings we do have the 6 GB vram limitation to bear in mind though doesn't seem to have been problematic so far um and I think we'd run into a performance limitation due to other factors before anything else in some games no issues with hitting over 100 FPS in fza um with the high preset and solid percentile lows GTA 5 is still very popular but it's quite old now so as expected it runs absolutely fine even with the advanced settings maxed out msaa was off however as it'll probably destroy the frame rate and instead I turned on FXAA the regular Graphics settings were all turned up to their respective highest with shadows set to soft mode the 6 gig 3050 produced a 110 FPS average with a 1% low of 82 and 1% low of 72 Marvel Spider-Man remastered next this does have various upscaling options but in my opinion the high preset worked absolutely fine with this card for an average of 82 FPS I do think this is very much a 1080p gaming card in most instances but there are certainly some older games GTA 5 and Fallout 4 come to mind which could be bumped up to 1440p with reduced quality settings that's for sure although this is an RTX card I think raate tracing is best left off in most instances using one of these with that said I just had to try Minecraft RTX to see how well it would do and with the default fancy options and render chunks distance we saw a plus 30 FPS average this was with the upscaling option enabled otherwise the figure hovered around 25 26 if you want to explore some of the incredible Ray traced maps in Minecraft then you certainly can do but 60 FPS will be out of the question as expected Red Dead Redemption 2 looks nice and plays very well with the Xbox One X console equivalent settings or be it at 1080p instead of 2160 these are my go-to settings with entry level cards and we saw at least 60 FPS at least 70 in fact with these options a few dips and drops here and there but overall it was mostly consistent Starfield up next now I am a fan of this game but I'm not a fan of its performance with the low preset which basically turns everything to its minimum we hit an average of 48 fps this was with the render resolution at 100% so no upscaling was involved here however for at least 60 frames per second I found that enabling dlss and setting it to the balanced mode did the trick there will still be a few drops below 60 FPS of course but this is probably how I'd play the game if I was using one of these cards every day finally it's The Witcher 3 which run splendidly with the high preset this is the next gen version of the game uh and with ssao on and SSR off screen space reflection set to low uh we saw a very nice result overall bumping a few visual options up would have certainly been possible but as with all PC games it's entirely up to you with what you do with the settings now overall the 6 GB 3050 is a pretty capable 1080p gaming card but I think it's more of a niche product and these full height ones even more so the low profile versions will be a great addition to a pre-built with limited space or power but if you do have a power connector a regular case and less than2 200 to spend on a GPU make sure you check check out how much the older 8 GB cards cost also consider RX 6600 prices as well because they probably make a lot more sense at this sort of price point and be sure to consider the used Market where you might find the aforementioned 8 gig 3050 and RX 6600 for less than you might find certain 6 GB 3050s for I'll have a 6 versus 8 GB 3050 comparison soon but until then thank you very much for watching leave your thoughts Down Below
