The New iPhone SE: A Review of Apple's Latest Addition to Its Smartphone Family
As we take a closer look at the brand new iPhone SE, it becomes clear that this device is not significantly different from its predecessor, the iPhone 8. In fact, if I didn't know what the iPhone 8 looked like, I wouldn't be able to tell the difference between the two phones. The new SE has a slightly more white finish than the original, with a subtle eggshell color that gives it a unique appearance.
One of the most noticeable features of the new iPhone SE is its sleek and seamless design. The front bezels are black, giving the phone an all-screen look that is similar to some of Apple's latest flagship models. However, unlike some of these newer phones, the SE still has a white bezel to match the white color of the phone itself. While I'm not sure which one I prefer, I do appreciate the design of the new SE, particularly how it looks with or without a case.
The iPhone SE comes in three different colors: white, black, and a new frosted glass finish that is available for purchase separately. The latter is available in a variety of cases, including some stylish silicone options that have been reviewed here. In fact, I've had the chance to try out one of these silicone cases myself, and I can attest to how great they are.
Now that we've taken a look at the design of the new iPhone SE, let's talk about its specs. The phone is available in three different storage options: 64GB, 128GB, and 256GB. What's particularly impressive about these storage options is how affordable they are. For example, there is only a $50 difference between the 64GB and 128GB models.
In addition to its sleek design and affordable pricing, the new iPhone SE also boasts some impressive camera features. One of the most notable features of the phone is its cinematic stabilization, which allows for smooth and stable video recording even when moving around quickly. I had a chance to test this feature out recently, using my front-facing camera to capture a few minutes of footage in the backyard.
The iPhone SE also comes with some other features that are worth mentioning. One of these is the ability to take portrait photos on both the front and back cameras. While it may not have slow-motion capabilities like some of Apple's newer flagship models, the phone does offer 240 and 120 frames per second recording on the rear-facing camera.
In terms of performance, the new iPhone SE is powered by a fast A14 Bionic chip, which provides smooth and responsive performance even when multitasking. I also had the chance to test out some video editing capabilities using the phone's built-in iMovie app.
Overall, the new iPhone SE is an impressive addition to Apple's smartphone family. With its sleek design, affordable pricing, and impressive camera features, it's a great option for anyone looking for a high-quality phone without breaking the bank.
One of the things that stood out to me when testing the iPhone SE was how well it performs in real-world use. The phone's battery life is particularly impressive, lasting several hours even with heavy use. I also appreciated how user-friendly the phone's interface is, making it easy to navigate and find the features you need.
In conclusion, the new iPhone SE is a great option for anyone looking for a high-quality smartphone without overspending on features that you may not need. With its sleek design, impressive camera capabilities, and fast performance, it's a solid choice for anyone in the market for a new phone.
Testing Out the New iPhone SE: Camera Capabilities
One of the standout features of the new iPhone SE is its camera system. The phone comes equipped with a dual-camera setup on the rear-facing side, which includes a wide-angle lens and an ultra-wide lens. This allows for some impressive shot composition options, as well as the ability to capture more detail in low-light situations.
In my tests, I found that the camera performed impressively, capturing crisp and clear images even in difficult lighting conditions. The phone's cinematic stabilization feature also worked beautifully, allowing me to capture smooth and stable footage of myself running around the backyard.
Another notable feature of the iPhone SE is its ability to take portrait photos on both the front and back cameras. This allows for some creative shot composition options, as well as the ability to add depth effects to your images. I had a chance to test this feature out recently, using my front-facing camera to capture a few minutes of footage in the backyard.
In terms of image quality, the new iPhone SE delivers impressive results across the board. The phone's camera system captures crisp and clear images, with excellent color accuracy and detail. In low-light situations, the camera performs particularly well, capturing more detail than I expected from such a compact device.
One area where the phone falls short is in its slow-motion capabilities. Unlike some of Apple's newer flagship models, which offer 1080p slow-motion recording at up to 240fps, the iPhone SE only offers 120fps. However, this may not be a major issue for many users, particularly those who don't need or want slow-motion video.
Overall, the camera system on the new iPhone SE is impressive and capable, making it a great option for anyone looking for a high-quality phone with excellent image quality.
"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: en- Today we're checking outthe brand new iPhone SE.(upbeat music)It looks so much like the iPhone 8that if I didn't know whatthe iPhone 8 looked like,I wouldn't even know the difference.I happen to have an iPhone 8 hereso you can see how itreally does look so similar. The new SE is a little bit more white, whereas this has a little moreof an eggshell type color. The iPhone name has been removed, and the logo is now centered. And my iPhone 8 is still running iOS 11.(laughs)So the front bezels on the new SE,the entire screen is black,so I kinda like this becauseit looks very seamless,so you can't tell thatthere are edges around it,it does look like a full screenuntil you actually turn it on.Whereas the eight has the white bezelsto match the white phone.I'm not really sure which one I prefer. But this looks better off.But I also like the white.I don't know. The iPhone SE comes inthree different colors, this is the white, it also comes in black, and a product red.The starting price is 399,and that's actually areally incredible priceconsidering how powerfulthis little phone is.This is actually runningthe A13 Bionic chipwhich is the same chipwhich is in the iPhone 11.That's gonna have an amazing impacton the performance of this phone. The original SE had astarting price also of 399,and that was in 2016,so Apple is keeping that same price, yet giving it that A13 Bionic chipthat is in their highestend lineup right now. This is 1.4 times fasterthan the original SE,and it also will give you afour times graphics boost. The display is a 4.7inch HD retina display, and what's great about this,is this is the same size as the iPhone 8,so all of the cases that you mayalready have for the iPhone 8,or their out there already, will work with the new SE.This also has touch ID,and that's the thing that I never thoughtthat I would really wantback until I startedhaving to wear face masksevery time I go outside,or, basically do anything.'Cause guess what doesn't workwhen your wearing a face mask?Face ID.It's also weird, I kindamissed having a home button.Like, just the hapticfeedback on this alone,is just so satisfying, like I've definitely have missed that. One thing that I was veryexcited about though,is this does have wireless charging.A lot of times when companiesare trying to cut costswith their devices, that's the first thing that goes.So the fact that this doeshave wireless chargingis pretty exciting.(upbeat music)So the camera is pretty impressive, your still gonna be getting 4K 30, 4K 60,from this rear camera. This is a 12 megapixel camera, the front is a 7 megapixel selfie camera, this also features acinematic video stabilization,so even if you are shooting at 1080,that extra stabilizationwill help you shoot waybetter front-facing videos. That's pretty stable actually. You can do all of thethings that you normallywould be able to do onthe higher-end phones, like slow-mo, time-lapses.It even has the quick-take videowhich I always forget about,so if you hold this down and then swipe, this'll automaticallystart recording a video.I don't know why I can never rememberthat that's a thing, but it is.I shoot a lot of thesevideos in just mono audio,so when I am shooting something in stereoit's always crazy to hear the difference. So I'm gonna shoot a quick video here. All right we are testing out the video, right now I'm shooting in 4K,so you guys can see the stereo audio,so maybe if I go over here,I'm over here. And if I go over here, I'm over here.I wonder if the next iPhone will recordin 360 Reality Audio?I know that's like a Sony property but,These do haveSony lenses in them.So anything's possible. The one thing that I would miss with thisis having that ultra-wide lens. This does only have the wide-angle lens, there's no telephoto. It will shoot portrait mode thoughon the front and back-facing camera. The newer iPhone 11 Pro'sdo shoot Pet Portrait Mode, this will not, as it doesreally only have this one lens. This version of portrait modeis mostly reliant on software, but it's still pretty good. And the fact that this phone can do thatis thanks to that A13 bionic chipbecause it's doing so manyprocesses, so quickly, that it's able to give you somepretty incredible features. So this comes in threestorage configurations, there's a 64, a 128, and a 256.But what's really impressiveis the 64 and the 128,there's only a 50 dollar difference. So if you are lookingto do a slight upgrade,I would recommend just going with the 128.Yes,you really do never know when your gonnafill up the storage on your phone. But all that being said,a lot of stuff can be stored in the cloud, you can offload apps, you can keep all of that stored virtually,so if you do opt for the 64,you will be perfectly fine.Oh, I also have one ofthe new silicone cases.I've had Moment cases on myother iPhone for so long, that I forgot how great these cases are. Before I put this case on now,I wanna show you guys acomparison of this new SE lineup, next to every other white iPhonethat I could find, thatI have previously owned. And unfortunately one of the phonesthat I don't have, is an original SE.Let's take a look.(gasps slightly)it's always so shocking how beautifulthis iPhone is without a case.So here they are side-by-side,I still love the frosted glass of the 11,so pretty. So you can see the screen differencebetween the 11 Pro Max and the SE.Let's put these cases back on.I can't be trusted.I'm gonna put that case on the iPhone 8,just to show you, and toprove to myself that it works. Here's the 8, same phone, same size.So now I'm gonna do a quick little photoand video test like I alwaysdo after my unboxingings. We are outside in ourtypical quarantine fashion, slippers in the back yard.Does it matter? It doesn't.But we're gonna test outsome video, some photos,to show you guys whatthis little guy can do.We're gonna start with thefront-facing camera first.Hi, it's Justine, in the backyard.I haven't been outside in over a month,so obviously, feeling and looking(laughs)fantastic.Matty isn't here todayhe's with my sister,so, you guys are not gonna to be gettingany quality Matty content today.I'm purposely trying to move around a lotto see how the cinematicstabilization works.Okay, let's take a selfie. So like I've mentioned you can takeportrait photos on the front and the back,so let's just take a regular photo first.(upbeat music)Okay let's,switch to portrait.(phone clicks)(upbeat music)This is all the lightingeffects that you guysare used to and have seen before. You can also adjust the f-stopwhich will also adjust how blurred,or not blurred that background is.So obviously one of the highlightsof the iPhone 11 Pro isyou can do slow-fees,slow-mo on the front-facing camera, this does not do that. But I think you guys will be okay withouthaving slow-fees on yourfront-facing camera. But we can do 240 and 120on the rear-facing camerawhich I think is pretty good.I can't run very fast because my slippersaren't on properly.(upbeat music)Have you seen speed like that before? It wouldn't be a slow-mo testwithout hair flips.(upbeat music)Now if I give you photosfrom the back-facing camera.(upbeat music)4K 30.Let's test you out.Man, my lawn needs mowed, this grass is growing. It's getting so long out here. It's fake grass but Jennaalways tells me that, and for some reason I'm always like,\"wait, is it really growing?\"It's not! This is the back-facing camera,we're shooting in 4K 30.It's really cool though becausethis will actually shoot up to 4K 60,so you can still get 4Kand slow down the 60,to get some nice cinematic slow-mo.So let's try that out now.(water pump spraying)This is a really bad, this is a bad demo.(upbeat music)(cries out in surprise)Good thing it's water resistant. Why is this foaming? What is happening?I didn't like that. Why does my hose look like a space ship?I don't know.I do plan on doing away more extensive testwith some moment lenses.Make sure you guyssubscribe and hit the bellso you'll be notifiedwhen I post that videobut I'm really excited about thatbecause I really want to tryto push this thing to it's limits.Thank you guys so much for watching,I hope you guys enjoyedthis first little lookat the new iPhone SE,I think this is an incredible phone,at such an incredible price. It's got all the photoand video capabilities,it's fast enough to play all of the gamesthat you would need to play.Obviously it doesn't havethe three camera setup,it won't do night mode. But if you're looking for a fast phoneto create some content, stay connected withyour friends and family, and do whatever else it is thatyou're gonna be doing on your phone. This is the phone for you.(upbeat music)\n"
