Mercedes E-Class Estate 2018 in-depth review _ carwow Reviews

**A Closer Look at the Mercedes E-Class Estate**

The Mercedes E-Class Estate is a brilliant long-distance cruiser that offers a comfortable and relaxing driving experience. One of its standout features is its soundproofing, which provides an impressive level of isolation from the outside world. This makes it an ideal choice for those who value peace and quiet while on the move. The car's interior is also noteworthy, with a spacious back window that doesn't create too many blind spots. When you need to get a better view, simply clicking up the rear window will allow you to see in all directions.

In terms of visibility, the E-Class Estate's large size can make it difficult to maneuver in tight spaces. However, its reasonable-sized back window and lack of excessive blind spots make it easier to navigate narrow streets. The car also features a 360-degree passenger view video, which gives you a better idea of what to expect from your driving experience.

**A Perfect Long-Distance Cruiser**

The E-Class Estate is perfect for long-distance cruising, thanks to its comfortable suspension and responsive yet smooth 7-speed automatic gearbox. When you floor it, the car accelerates effortlessly, making it an enjoyable drive on the motorway. The engine, a 2-liter diesel, provides plenty of power without being too thirsty. With its impressive fuel economy, this car is ideal for road trips.

One interesting feature of the E-Class Estate is its handling. When compared to the saloon version, the estate feels more responsive and stable, thanks to additional bracing that has been fitted to improve its performance. This makes it a great choice for those who want a practical luxury estate car with impressive handling capabilities.

**Not-So-Pleasing Features**

Despite its many strengths, there are some features that might be considered annoying by some drivers. One of these is the fake exhaust outlets, which seem like they belong on a toy robot rather than a production car. Another issue is the limited availability of petrol engines in certain trim levels, particularly in the UK market.

Additionally, those who want real leather seats will have to upgrade to the higher-end models. However, this comes at a cost, and some might find it frustrating that the lower-spec models lack the premium feel of genuine leather. Another minor annoyance is the inability to fit the load cover into the boot space without taking it out separately.

**Cool Features Galore**

On the other hand, the E-Class Estate has plenty of cool features that make up for these minor annoyances. One standout feature is the elongated bracket on the seatbacks, which can be extended and then retracted to increase or decrease the height of the rear seats. This provides more flexibility when it comes to loading and unloading cargo.

The car also features a high-definition reversing camera system that uses advanced sensors to provide a clear view of the surroundings behind the vehicle. When you activate this feature, the camera's field of view is extended to give you an even better view of what's behind the car.

**Practicality at Its Best**

One of the E-Class Estate's most impressive features is its practicality. With a boot capacity of 745 kilograms, it can carry everything from luggage to bicycles with ease. This makes it an ideal choice for road trips or daily commutes where you need to transport large amounts of gear.

The car also comes with a semi-autonomous driving system that can take control of the vehicle in certain situations, such as on motorways or in heavy traffic. While this feature is not available on all trim levels, those who want it will be pleased to know that it's available on some models.

**Getting Your Ideal Car**

Finally, Mercedes Benz offers a unique service called "Configurator," which allows you to build your ideal car and receive five competing prices from top dealers within 24 hours. This service is available online, making it easy for customers to research and compare different models without having to visit dealerships.

Overall, the Mercedes E-Class Estate is a great choice for those looking for a practical luxury estate car with impressive features and handling capabilities. While there are some minor annoyances, they are easily outweighed by the car's many strengths.

"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enthis is the Mercedes e-class of statements perfect if you want a luxurious large comfy German car but you also need to carry loads of stuff for this as well if you've ever thought those hands-free tailgates at a waste of time maybe not maybe not and then I mean this boot is absolutely huge there we go always do I go always didn't go anyway yeah boot is huge it's about 10 percent bigger than that of a BMW 5 series touring FYI and it's got lots of nice feature so you got some knitting here there's no load lick and you've got scuff plate there so when I get all this stuff out scratch the paintwork my God look how cavernous it is see in the moment all the way in here it's absolutely gianormous look at that huge flat low Bay you've got in there back to the features so you've got 12 volts socket this places to hang stuff off under here you little carpet there's a huge storage area and as ever you get the Mercedes obligatory weird kind of basket let's put that back so so I want to show you what it's like with the seats up just bear with me for a moment it doesn't take too long there we go now if you check out the space you'll see there's loads of it I want to show you the parcel cover cuz handily you have the Nitti section in the low cover section all in one which makes it easier to fit but that does make it very heavy so use it a few bicep curls but when you try to fit it a bit of a struggle but once you got the hang of it it's actually not too difficult there you go it's in and I'll show you this as well the way the low cover I just shut this down a bit quickly what's this when you open it look at this key see it slides up out the way for you that's handy now let's move on to the back seats so as with the Eco saloon you've got lots of knee room head rooms pretty good as well even if you have the panoramic roof fitted it's okay slight problem I think is that seats do seem quite low so your needs are quite high and your bottoms a bit lower so it's not ideal and the seat bench isn't quite as deep as on a BMW 5-series so it's not quite as comfy for long journeys as a fighters I don't think in the back if you're carrying two people if you came three it's actually better because it's middle seat it's quite low wide and squidgy and the cars fairly wise it's actually pretty good for three I think better than the 5-series if you want to carry three this e-class some other features in the back here so yes you pull this down you then have come on you know you're in there don't be shy there we go it's a little cup holders there quite like those and that's what that was for isolated oh yeah it's a extra cubby space if you want to carry longer items and some people in the back you can fold down this seat and I don't know how to do it is that's how you do it so yeah you can carry skis whatever to people in the back you need to carry children the eyes fix anchor points adjustment to here be warned though these covers are quite easy to lose now if you want to see some more information on its cost practicality click it there to watch my detailed video you can see how much stuff I could come into this cos boot what it's like with three people in the back and how easy it is to fit a child seat so let's move on to the front we're on the driver's point of view the e-class estate is identical to the saloon you know and it's a very very nice place to be I really like the design it's a very nice cool desire that the vents the way you can get this Ward on the - it's really really tasteful quality is very good as well though I don't think it's quite good as in a BMW 5 Series Touring that brings me onto the infotainment system is so standard you get a smaller screen than this and you don't get digital dolls you have to upgrade to the bigger screen if you're having a four-cylinder engine car the 6-cylinder has this bigger screen as standard but then you still have to upgrade to the digital dolls in terms of the infotainment system itself this is like I say the upgraded command online and you know it's alright it's okay it's just not as nice to use as being Toulouse I Drive I do think the graphics are quite sharp though one problem I do have with it is that the controller that's the design of it just gives you RS is not that comfy can't complain about the cubby spaces they've got huge door bins the glove box is big as well you've got more storage into here and it's quite a practical car here in the front and I like this feature so electrically operated steering column because why should you do things manually in a Mercedes absolutely not dubbed outrageous with me okay that's the walk-around bit dealt with now it's time to hit the road to see what this car is like to drive it's quite a nice car to drive in time they say you class part of the reason is that you're just so well isolated from the outside world it's got really good soundproofing so it's as if nothing's going on outside at all it's really really quiet and relaxing terms of the visibility it's it's a it's okay you know it's a big car so it's gonna be hard to maneuver in tight spaces but the back window it's a reasonable size and it's not too many big blind spots and if you click up there you can save yourself by joining me for a 360 degree passenger ride video the c-class estate is a brilliant brilliant long-distance Cruiser it's just so super comfy on the motorway as standard all cars get s suspension at the back this one has the upgraded all-round air suspension and it just cries it just bright super quiet as well when you're just cruising the engine in this car is the 2-liter diesel it's actually all you really need so I'm doing 50 miles an hour I'm gonna floor it and now I'm doing 70 easily quick enough and it works really well with this very responsive yet smooth 7-speed automatic gearbox so I was even faster yet you can't get a v6 diesel but you really don't need it you can also get a high-performance petrol as well in the e63 AMG but that's going to be very thirsty this diesel is supposed to do 57 miles per gallon this one here is doing 43 it's alright interestingly for this estate version of the E Class Mercedes has fitted some extra bracing to it and the upshot of that is that it seems to just handle better than the saloon which is bizarre it's not me the other way around the estate's just feel a bit more ponderous but this one yeah that's better I mean I'm gonna try to eat Class A state like a lunatic round the bends but if you go quickly will hold on it's quite surprising why they I need to back off should be a bit more civilized when driving an eClass yeah now then it's time for the car low five annoying things about this car what is it with Mercedes and these fake exhaust outlets there's nothing days this is blanked off this cheat better trimmed seems like it's come from some child's plasticky toy in fact the design of this mimics some form of radio control robot if you want a normal class of state with a petrol engine in the UK pad you can only get a petrol engine in one of the sportier engines for some reason the AMG line version because of state doesn't get real lid on it seats like the SE lotion it gets fake there but if you want real leather you have to upgrade to the 1600 bang nappa leather though it is quite nice annoyingly you can't fit the load cover out the way underneath the false floor you have to carry it in the boot and that's it pretty much fall now actually that's it definitely for thankfully this car has plenty of cool features which helps make up for all this it is 5 there's an elongated bracket for the seat backs which can pop up and then we put the seat back has it more upright so you increase the boot space by 30 liters the definition of the reversing camera is so high that you can probably make out all my wrinkles Danny Mercedes by pressing this button here the driver can actually control the passenger seat look that's why the camera is moving now like we've got our own slider thanks to Mercedes Benz the e-class estate can carry 745 kilos in its boot which is ten times the weight of me the semi autonomous driving function effectively lets the car drive itself not even on the motorway but also at slow speeds in town so it does all the braking and the accelerating and of course the steering though you do occasionally have to touch the steering wheel to let you know you're still there obviously you don't do this on the road it's hugely responsible I am on a close test track this is just so weird though isn't it the Mercedes e-class estate starts from around 37,000 pounds but if you click up there you can get a car like Oh UK you can build your ideal car and then within 24 hours you'll get five great offers back from top dealers seeking pair prices without having to haggle all from the comfort of your own home so then I've reverted on this car should you avoid it should you consider it should you shortlist it or should you just go right hidden by it well I reckon you should shortlist the Mercedes e-class estate it's a really good all-round practical luxury estate car you enjoyed this video
