Book Shopping Road Trip to Small Town Bookstores Ep. 2
**Book Shopping Road Trip: A Journey Through Small Town Bookstores**
Welcome back to another episode of my book shopping road trip series! This time, I'm taking you on an adventure through some of the cutest small towns in Texas. If you missed the first video, don’t worry—it’s not too late to jump on board as we explore charming bookstores and uncover hidden gems.

### **Our First Stop: Bernie, Texas**
Just like last time, our journey begins in the adorable town of Bernie, Texas. In my previous video, I tried to visit a store called *The Bookshop Under the Windmill*, but unfortunately, it was closed when I arrived. This time, however, I made sure to check the hours beforehand, and—thankfully—it’s open!
**The Bookshop Under the Windmill** is such an enchanting name, isn’t it? And guess what? There’s actually a giant windmill right in front of the store! It’s truly one of the most adorable bookstores I’ve ever seen. Plus, this used bookstore is part of the library system, meaning all proceeds go directly to supporting the library. That’s so cool—what a great way to give back to the community.
I’ve been on a bit of a streak lately, discovering amazing deals at local libraries and bookstores. The prices have been incredible—many books are just $2 or $3, and I’ve found some absolute steals along the way. I’m hopeful this stop will be no exception.
As we pull up to the store, there’s a cart outside offering **three books for one dollar**! Talk about a crazy deal! My mom even started loading up her cart with some of her favorite titles. Inside the store, I was pleasantly surprised by just how big it is. There are so many books to choose from—way more than I expected.
One unique feature of this bookstore is that there’s a mystery author whose works all start with different letters of the alphabet. That sounds like such a fun and creative way to explore new authors! While browsing, I found myself in the YA section, where I spotted *The Mortal Instruments* series—something I haven’t read since middle school but always loved. They also had *The Series of Unfortunate Events*, which I’ve never read but did watch the movie adaptation. Now I’m curious to see how the books compare.
In the romance section, there were tons of Nora Roberts books—something I’ve never read before but hear so much about. I also noticed *Bridget Jones’s Diary* and was tempted to pick it up since I’ve seen the movie and know it’s a classic. Plus, I’m really interested in reading another book by Ellen Hildebrand after enjoying *The Perfect Couple*. If you have any recommendations for her other works, let me know!
There’s also a section dedicated to newer releases, which is always exciting because I love discovering contemporary titles. Prices were absolutely insane—most books were just $2 or $3, but some newer ones went up to around $8. In the end, I picked up three books:
1. **The Beach Lane** by an author I’d never heard of before. The plot sounded too good to pass up—it’s about a girl from New York’sit scene who ends up working as an au pair in the Hamptons alongside two other girls. Sounds like a summer filled with drama, romance, and social intrigue!
2. **After You** by Jojo Moyes, the sequel to *Me Before You*. I own the first book but haven’t read it yet. To be honest, I’m nervous about diving into the second installment without knowing how the first ends, but I feel committed now that I have it.
3. **The Homewreckers** by Kate Stewart—a mix of romance and mystery that sounds absolutely thrilling. The plot involves a girl named Hattie who gets involved in a beach house renovation reality show, only to uncover a decades-old murder mystery. This one is on my must-read list!

### **Next Stop: The Bernie Bookshop**
After leaving *The Bookshop Under the Windmill*, I couldn’t resist popping into another store I’d loved during my last visit—the Bernie Bookshop. It’s one of my favorites, and I’m so glad to be back.
As soon as we walked in, I was struck by how gorgeous the wooden shelves looked. They’re exactly the kind of rustic charm I’d love to have in my home. My mom pointed out a few books she wanted to read, including *The Kiss Quotient* and *The Heart Principle*, both by an author I hadn’t heard of before. The YA section caught my eye too—*Hopeless* by Colleen Hoover is already on my list after hearing how emotional her stories are.
I ended up picking up two books here:
1. **Hopeless** by Colleen Hoover—a story about a senior named Skyler who’s navigating a complicated relationship with a boy named Dean, who has his own secrets to keep hidden.
2. **Two Can Keep a Secret** by Karen M. McManus, the same author behind *One of Us Is Lying* and its sequel, *All of Us Are Somebodies*. This book sounds like another pulse-pounding mystery, following ellery and malcolm as they uncover secrets in their small town.

### **Day Two: Llano, Texas**
The next morning, I set off for the tiny town of Llano, where two more bookstores awaited. The first was called *Records & Things Strange* (aka Wrath). From the photos online, I knew this place was going to be a treasure trove of knickknacks and records—something every vinyl lover would love.
Inside, there were stacks of books everywhere: on tables, shelves, even the floors! It was so cool to see such a wide variety of genres, from classic westerns to old textbooks. I stumbled upon an incredible find—a book published in 1949 that someone had actually read decades ago. The store also had an insane collection of records, which would be perfect for any collector.
Unfortunately, I didn’t end up buying anything here—just didn’t find anything that caught my interest. But the experience was still a blast! My dad even found some old western magazines, and I almost convinced myself to pick one up as a coffee table piece.
**Next door**, we checked out *Bessemer Books*, which had an enormous selection of Harlequin Intrigue novels (romantic suspense, anyone?). The mystery section was equally impressive, and there were even books about Texas—always a plus for this Texan! I spotted some Nora Roberts titles in the romance section, but I’m still on the fence about diving into her works.
In the YA section, I found *Pretty Little Liars* and *Gossip Girl* books (yes, they are real!), which were new to me. The store also had a ton of classic books with beautifully designed covers—perfect for someone like me who loves collecting pretty volumes.

### **What’s Next?**
Although we planned to visit another library bookstore in Johnson City, it turns out they’re remodeling right now. What a bummer! But I’m already thinking about future episodes—maybe there are more small towns with amazing bookstores within an hour or two of Austin? Let me know if you have any suggestions!
In the meantime, I’m so excited to dive into the three books I picked up: *The Beach Lane*, *After You*, and *The Homewreckers*. If anyone has read these or any of the other titles mentioned, I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments below!

Thanks for joining me on this book shopping adventure. Even if I didn’t walk out with anything from the last two stores, the journey itself was worth every moment. Happy reading, and I’ll see you in my next video!
