**The Cog Score: A Comprehensive Review of Jimmy's Mark IV Supra**
In this latest installment of "Cogs," we put our trusty project car, a 1987 Mark IV Supra, through its paces and awarded it a coveted Cog Score. The score is a measure of the car's overall condition, with each aspect evaluated on a scale of 1-10.
**The Exterior: A Mixed Bag**
Our first stop was the exterior, where we found a car that was, in some areas, barely holding together. The paint job, while not terrible, was only rated 2 out of 10, indicating that it's not the worst, but certainly not the best. However, the adaptive weight-saving bodywork did impress us, as it would likely improve the car's performance on the track.
**Mechanicals: A Reliable Platform**
Next up were the mechanicals, where we found a car that was still going strong despite its age. The engine and transmission were rated 5 out of 10, indicating that they're reliable but not particularly impressive. We noted that the car had only 53,000 miles on it, which is unusually low for a vehicle of this age.
**Sound: A Lacking Feature**
One area where the Mark IV Supra truly shines is in its sound system. Unfortunately, our test car was missing its turbocharger, which takes away from its overall appeal. The exhaust note, while not bad, was not particularly impressive either. We gave it a 4 out of 10 rating.
**Interior: A Surprisingly Well-Preserved**
The interior of the Mark IV Supra is often overlooked, but we were pleasantly surprised by the condition of our test car's cabin. Despite being an old car, the plastics and materials held up surprisingly well, earning us an 8 out of 10 rating in this area.
**Coolness: A Surprising High**
We also rated the Mark IV Supra for its "coolness" factor, which is a subjective measure that we believe adds to the car's overall appeal. We gave it an 8 out of 10 rating, as it's still a Supra and that alone makes it a winner in our book.
**The Verdict: A Cog Score of 28/50**
After carefully evaluating all aspects of the Mark IV Supra, we awarded it a Cog Score of 28 out of 50. While it may not be the most impressive car on paper, its age and condition make it a great platform for a project car.
**Future Plans: A Path to Restoration**
With the Mark IV Supra now back in our possession, we're already planning our next move. We'll be focusing on reinforcing the chassis, cleaning up the underside, and replacing any worn-out components. Our goal is to create a fast road car that's perfect for track days.
**A Shared Track Day: A Possible Future Event**
We're also considering organizing a shared track day event where we can take our Mark IV Supra and other project cars out on the track. We invite all of you to join us for an unforgettable experience of driving some of the most exciting cars in history.
