Rettinger's Rants - Launching a Website

**The Journey of Launching TechnoBuffalo**

I remember the excitement and anticipation as we prepared to launch our new website, TechnoBuffalo. Our team had worked tirelessly to bring this vision to life, and I was eager to share it with the world. However, things didn't quite go as planned. We were supposed to launch on November 10th, but due to unforeseen bugs and issues, we had to push back our launch date by two weeks.

As a result, I kept quiet about the launch for an extra week, waiting until we could confidently say that everything was working smoothly. This approach may seem cautious, but it was a necessary measure to avoid any potential disasters that could have tarnished our reputation. If anything had gone wrong during the launch, it would have looked bad on us, and I wasn't willing to take that risk.

Finally, after what felt like an eternity, we launched our site quietly into the night, with only a select few aware of its existence. It was a tense wait, but eventually, everything came together, and we announced our arrival to the world. If you've made it past those initial issues, know that your site is now live and functioning as intended.

**The Reality of Blogging**

Now that we're up and running, I want to share some hard-earned lessons about blogging. When you decide to start a blog or YouTube channel, remember that it's not just about sharing your opinions or expertise – it's also about creating high-quality content on a regular basis. With the rise of social media, people are bombarded with information, and it can be difficult to stand out from the crowd.

As someone who has spent countless hours writing articles, videos, and social media posts, I can tell you that producing consistent, engaging content is no easy feat. Not only do you need to craft well-written, informative pieces, but you also need to ensure they're error-free and visually appealing. Adding stock images, vectors, or illustrations to your content can make all the difference in terms of presentation and style.

**Stock Images: A Game-Changer**

For bloggers and YouTubers, having access to high-quality stock images is essential. And that's where Shutterstock comes in. As a trusted platform for obtaining stock photos, videos, and vectors, Shutterstock has been a lifesaver for me and my team. With their vast library of images, we can quickly find the perfect picture to accompany our articles or videos.

Shutterstock offers a range of options, from individual images to large image packs, monthly subscriptions, and even enhanced license access for printing or commercial use. Their user-friendly interface makes it easy to search for specific keywords, browse through categories, or explore their collections. And with no need for a credit card, you can get started right away.

**The Importance of Dedication and Planning**

Starting and maintaining a successful blog or YouTube channel requires dedication, planning, and hard work. It's not just about sharing your ideas or expertise – it's also about managing time, resources, and team members (if you hire staff). You need to be willing to put in the effort to create high-quality content that resonates with your audience.

For me, launching TechnoBuffalo was a journey of growth and learning. We tried and failed before succeeding, but each experience taught us valuable lessons about what works and what doesn't. If you're considering starting your own blog or YouTube channel, take the time to think carefully about your goals, target audience, and content strategy.

**Lessons Learned from TechnoBuffalo 2**

In our attempts to launch TechnoBuffalo 2, we encountered some unexpected issues that ultimately led to us shelving the project. While it was disappointing, this experience taught me the importance of flexibility and adaptability in the face of uncertainty.

Looking back, I'm proud of what we accomplished with TechnoBuffalo, even if we didn't quite hit our mark initially. The journey has been invaluable, and I wouldn't trade those experiences for anything. Launching TechnoBuffalo 3 was a new chapter in our growth, one that's taught us to be more resilient and focused on our goals.

**Conclusion**

Launching a website, blog, or YouTube channel is never easy, but with the right mindset, planning, and resources, you can overcome the challenges and achieve success. As I reflect on my journey, I want to share these lessons with anyone considering taking the leap. Don't be afraid to learn from your mistakes, stay adaptable, and focus on creating high-quality content that resonates with your audience.

If you're thinking of starting a blog or YouTube channel, remember that it's not just about sharing your ideas – it's also about managing time, resources, and team members (if applicable). Take the time to think carefully about your goals, target audience, and content strategy. And don't forget to invest in stock images from reputable sources like Shutterstock.

Lastly, be patient and persistent. Launching a successful website or channel takes time, effort, and perseverance. But with dedication and hard work, you can achieve your goals and build a loyal community of fans who appreciate your unique perspective and expertise.

sort of named TechnoBuffalo 3 or TB 3.0 one of those two so it's really fresh on my mind all the trials and tribulations it takes to launch a website whether it's a large one one much larger than TechnoBuffalo one small or you know just in between like we are there's so much work if you ever considered starting a blog or wanting to launch a Blog to go along with your YouTube video listen up from somebody who has walked that path definitely things you're going to want to keep in mind so let me tell you a little story this is when we first tried to launch techno Buffalo back in end of 2010 it was like December is uh I had just quit my job I was focusing on the YouTube and techno Buffalo full time and we were getting ready to push the sucker live it was early December I had used every Outlet I had to promote this techno Buffalo thing it was coming nobody knew what it was we kept everything secret and finally I was telling everybody on Twitter on Facebook on YouTube on this day this time TechnoBuffalo is going to be live go check it out I put all my name reputation behind it we tried to launch TechnoBuffalo and say tried for a good reason and within 45 seconds the site crashed and it didn't crash because we had so much traffic the servers we had should have more than been able to take care of it it crashed because of awful code and cuz I had no idea how to build and run a website the time we had our server was running on Windows we left things wide open we had infinite Loop codes that caused the servers to just completely crash it was a total disaster trying to launch a site I had no idea what I was doing and it really showed when the site launched it took us over 4 months and about 60% of our startup Capital to get the site back up and running was a huge pain in the button coincidentally those you guys that follow me on Twitter know I have insomnia it was during the initial launch of TechnoBuffalo when I developed my uh last of sleep habit my insomnia uh before I could fall asleep anywhere I had backpacked through mainland China and literally fell asleep on trains in China now I can't fall asleep in my own bed with a noise maker on and a fan uh to save my life so there you go uh so flash flow we're now to techn buff 3.0 we've learned quite a bit it is really hard to launch a website now there are plenty of third parties out there you can use to launch a Blog on sites you know and trust uh you know blog spot things like that are great ways to get a site up and running you don't have to go through some of the hassle that we did uh you think you're going to maybe have a lower traffic site those are great options in fact we initially launched before our original Tech no Buffalo we had John for lakers.com that was run off a Blogspot it worked great but if you want a site it's going to give you more flexibility you can control everything on that you've got sort of a complete uh control over uh you're going to want to create your own website it become just a huge hassle uh you got to make sure you've got a developer that you trust or you better learn some crazy HTML Ruby on Rails and all kinds of other coding languages that really meant nothing to me a few years ago and I certainly know very very little uh about them so you're going to have to find great people it's certainly something that we have right now fortunate to have incredible people uh working for technobo was able to help us get live but our launch on the 10th was actually supposed to be two weeks earlier in November I ran into bugs and issues and we weren't able to get the site live in time according to my initial calendar so when we launched last night I didn't say it were to anybody I didn't say word to the public cuz if the site had crashed or gone down it would have looked super bad on us so we launched very quietly waiting to make sure the site worked and then we put up an announcement being like hey over here we are live so definitely something to keep in mind now if you've gotten past all those issues your site's live and it's working you got to put content on your blog and putting content on your blog can be an interesting Endeavor you might think to yourself self I could write a lot of blog posts a day I have a lot of opinions about tech or food or how much you love the Galaxy camera for example whatever it might be uh you think that you can do that every day every day though gets to be a little bit tedious day after day after day trying to write content not only right content but write good content provocative content content that spell checked and as limited typos as you can certainly being close to real-time news it's very hard to totally eliminate that uh but something to keep in mind make sure you have the dedication to do it and if you want to hire staff or get staff to do it uh you got to go through and vet people you got to manage people it can become very tedious so if you're considering saying okay I run a YouTube channel it's quaz successful I want to Branch out to the tech side uh really give it some good thought I'm not saying that you can't be successful doing it certainly you can uh but it's often times a lot more work and more difficult than you might expect now for me the journey has been more than worth it I wouldn't trade anything that I've learned launching TechnoBuffalo one two we actually tried to launch TechnoBuffalo 2.5 but it didn't go out uh and now technal Buffalo 3 uh I wouldn't trade any of that experience for for really anything in the world I am so proud of the site I'm so proud of the staff I can't believe that we've got a portal to share our opinions with the world um but it's been a tough road uh it's been a road where I've learned quite a bit I've grown as a manager as a as a writer as a developer tiny little bit uh over the course of the years and it's been just an incredible experience um so if you guys are thinking about going that road you know heed my warning give it some second thought evaluate how much your time how much time you have that valate whether or not you're going to try and just cram as many ads you can in there whether or not
