How Much Nitrous Can a Stock Engine Take?

we're either going to break a ring or the Rings are going to butt up against each other and melt right well they'll just kind of lock in and uh then they'll just start ringing the hell out of the C walls let's get some more jets in this thing and uh see what happens

all right we're stepping up to 75 shot all right I'm going to purge the nitrous purging all right that's starting to sound a little bit like I'm heing I'm hearing something a little detonation there uhoh you will beat the hell out of the Pistons and the Rings and make things really hot something's got to give something does have to give it it definitely could survive 100 but it also definitely could not all right I'm going to purge the nitrous here we go all right you ready JY yeah dude hit it oh

oh danger to manifold dude what happens when you hit the gas now oh yeah I think we just blew up the intake I think we did did you man that wasn't on my bingo card all right I'm going to bring in that was a fireball dude I don't think it liked it that was too much nitrous for me have you ever heard the phrase danger to manifold it happened we did it dude just like in the Fast and Furious okay we're back from the track back in the shop and we're going to start autopsying the PT Cruiser to see what went wrong ostensibly the intake manifold exploded but we're going to take it off and look around see if we find any other trauma that the PT Cruiser has endured and see if there's anything interesting to learn along the way what do you see Dr Jerry

okay so when we went to the track with the uh intention of blowing up the PT Cruiser with nitrous what I assumed was going to go wrong was uh something to do with the Rings right so adding a bunch of nitrous you're adding a bunch of heat and as we know heat expands things Metals especially and the piston Rings have a gap called the end Gap and as things get hotter that Gap gets smaller because the ring is expanding and if it gets too hot that Gap will totally close up because the ring has expanded too much and then it has nowhere to go except into the cylinder walls and it'll just tear up your cylinder walls eat up your piston Rings and cause a loss of compression but I didn't clock that this thing had a plastic intake manifold so we didn't get that far we blew this thing way before the piston Rings had any problems so honestly it's kind of a plus one for plastic intake manifolds it's like a fail safe you just pop this thing before you do any real damage but what I assume actually happened was that we had uh an incident of pre-ignition or detonation the air fuel mixture igniting before the spark plug told it to probably so early that a valve was hanging open and that flame front was able to travel outside of the combustion chamber and up into the intake manifold which is now full of explosive stuff when you add a nitrous kit like this one you're spraying Fuel and nitrous into the intake tube and all the way through the intake manifold so this whole thing is full of fuel and nitrous so if fire gets out there it's going to explode and now if this was a metal intake manifold it probably would have survived just fine but since it's plastic no chance well you did a good job Joe blowing up this engine yeah blew up just a little bit just enough so we couldn't keep going all right Joy so what are the plans with this p crer next great question Jerry and the answer is pretty interesting we're actually going to give this away to one of our Zumi stash reward members so we got a little bit of work to do to fix this thing up and get it back to Cherry condition so while we do that why don't you guys download the Zumi app to get entered for the sweep Stakes to win this thing thank you so much for watching this video make sure you like the video subscribe to the channel and leave a comment down below letting us know what you want to see us do next thanks goodbye

WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enthis is a bottle of nitrous and this is also a bottle of nitrous oh yes very good and that is a PT Cruiser and today we're going to see how much spray a PT Cruiser can take before something gives way oh welcome to Donut so we've all seen the iconic bottles and have undoubtedly seen a car purging online but what exactly is nitrous oxide oras put simply nitrous oxide is a gas that boosts your car's speed by adding extra oxygen to the engine the engine oxygen allows the engine to burn more fuel which in turn generates more power in nitrous oxide systems wet and dry refer to different methods of injecting nitrous oxide into the engine a wet Nitrous system mixes nitrous oxide with fuel before it enters the engine ensuring the right balance of extra oxygen and fuel for increased power in contrast a dry nitrous system injects only nitrous oxide into the engine while relying on the existing fuel system to provide extra fuel all right so the first step is is basically kind of getting an idea of where you want to mount the bottle we've decided to put in the trunk and right underneath that is our spare tire so we got to get rid of that guy so that we don't drill right into it so once you've kind of decided where you want to put the bottle you're going to want to put the straps onto the bottle so that they're in the right orientation then you'll grab a pen and simply Mark where you want to put these holes and get to drilling all right so outside of having to drill some holes to mount the actual bracket itself you got to drill a hole so that we could put the nitrous line through it last step is put the bottle in make sure nothing's hitting and it all looks good with the back all finished up Johnny's going to go ahead in the front and get the fuel lines routed along with the nitrous line as well and our perch system all mounted up since it's a wet system we've got to get a nozzle drilled into the intake itself once the bung and nozzle have its place go ahead and just put the intake pipe back on start routing all your piping now that the intake is done it's just more of the same just making a bunch of lines so since nitrous uses super high pressure Johnny has to use a hydraulic press crimp here so that the lines are strong enough to handle all that so now that the solar noids and all the lines are routed next up is everybody's favorite our Purge system baby this lets everyone know you mean business when you pull up to the races that Purge tube is a universal length so you really just find where you want to shoot out measure and chop it as if we didn't have enough lines going now it's time to Route the line that goes from the bottle to the front of the car make sure it's secured really well and away from any exhaust or anything low hanging so it doesn't get dragged on on the ground so next up is going to be the switch that actually turns on the nitrous itself so we're going to go with a foot pedal switch instead of the standard button this way if it gets out of hand we could just lift off the throttle now with most of the plumbing done you just got to get the switch mounted for your Purge system so now we got everything hooked up we just got to fill this bottle full of nitrous the guys over at nitrous Supply actually go by weight not how much PSI is in the bottle itself because that will change all the time with temperature with everything finished up it's time to test the perge system itself so purging does exactly what the name suggests it purges any existing nitrous or impurities that that might be built up in the lines and vents them into the atmosphere via this tube oh that's awesome this is restore and protect from today's sponsor veling it's the only motor oil that actively restores and protects your engine from future damage you've got project cars like us this is essential this motor oil restores your Pistons back to factory clean removing up to 100% of those nasty deposits that's the first motor oil ever to do that that's insane plus it packs 79% stronger anti-wear protection versus the industry standard that means longer engine life better gas mileage and of course more power clean up your project cars Engine with restore and protect from today's sponsor valine the original motor oil to learn more click the link below what are you doing now let's go to the track and see just how much nitrous this thing can handle how are we going to our nitrous today all right listen here's what I'm thinking we're going to use the straightway on streets of Willow we're basically going to drag race this thing we're going to start with no nitrous obviously and then we're going to crank up the juice and start with a 35 shot and then we'll go up from there and sort of see what it takes see how much faster it feels I'm very interested to see if this car can feel fast and then uh how fast it can feel before it gives up the ghost I think it's going to go at 50 what do you think it's going to go at well I think it depends on how many runs we do I think it could handle a 50 shot for a while maybe not indefinitely I bet it could handle a 100 shot for a little while we have uh the ability to go up to 175 which I think should definitely do it that'll do it all right well before we start squirting the spray Let's uh let's just take this thing around the track a few times get a feel for it see how a pretty much stock PT Cruiser feels it's good to be back in the office you know this is uh the car I used to infiltrate the PT Cruiser Community that's right to near and dear to my heart all right Jimmy let's do our first pass are we on nitrous we're not on nitrous this is not on Nitro split all the way down all right so we just did our first pass with no nitrous and big surprise PT Cruiser's pretty dang slow so we're going to do something about that and that something is right here like I was talking about this is a wet system so you see we've got this little Y block here and this line goes to this solenoid which is in charge of the nitrous this line which goes to another solenoid down there is in charge of the fuel so how we determine how much nitrous and how much fuel is let through and into our intake is by way of these little suckers these are the Jets and they've got very small openings or orifices that let a certain amount of nitrous Andor fuel through so we are going to step up to a 35 horsepower shot first so we're going to put a jet in the nitrous and in the fuel side of our little y piece now let's go see how this thing feels all right nitrous is armed I'm going to now Purge purging the system that's so cool never not cool not getting any better feels like this whole car is going to shake yeah there's a lot going on I think you're felt faster it felt a little faster guess it's only 35 horsepower we got to go up to 50 dude this thing's been slow enough for too long now we're switching to 50 okay Jimmy nitrous is armed 50 shot Purge it yeah we got a 50 shot time to hammer let's go dude we're going to lot of cylinders back some strange feelings coming through this I guess is we're either going to break a ring or the Rings are going to butt up against each other and melt right well they'll just kind of lock in and uh then they'll just start riing the hell out of the C walls let's get some more jets in this thing and uh see what happens all right we're stepping up to 75 shot all right I'm going to purge the nitrous purging all right that's starting to sound a little bit like I'm heing I'm hearing something a little think we just blew up the intake I think we did did you man that wasn't on my bingo card all right I'm going to bring in that was a fireball dude I don't think it liked it that was too much nitrous for me have you ever heard the phrase danger to manifold it happened we did it dude just like in the Fast and Furious okay we're back from the track back in the shop and we're going to start autopsying the PT Cruiser to see what went wrong ostensibly the intake manifold exploded but we're going to take it off and look around see if we find any other trauma that the PT Cruiser has endured and then it has nowhere to go except into the cylinder walls and it'll just tear up your cylinder walls eat up your piston rings and cause a loss of compression but I didn't clock that this thing had a plastic intake manifold so we didn't get that far we blew this thing way before the piston rings had any problems so honestly it's kind of a plus one for plastic intake manifolds it's like a a fail safe you just pop this thing before you do any real damage but what I assume actually happened was that we had uh an incident of pre-ignition or detonation the air fuel mixture igniting before the spark plug told it to probably so early that a valve was hanging open and that flame front was able to travel outside of the combustion chamber and up into the intake manifold which is now full of explosive stuff when you add a nitrous kit like this one you're spraying Fuel and nitrous into the intake tube and all the way through the intake manifold so this whole thing is full of fuel and nitrous so if Fire gets out there it's going to explode and now if this was a metal intake manifold it probably would have survived just fine but since it's plastic no chance well you did a good job Joe blowing up this engine yeah blew up just a little bit just enough so we couldn't keep going all right Joy so what are the plans with this p crer next great question Jerry and the answer is pretty interesting we're actually going to give this away to one of our Zumi stash reward members so we got a little bit of work to do to fix this thing up and get it back to Cherry condition so while we do that why don't you guys download the Zumi app to get entered for the sweep Stakes to win this thing thank you so much for watching this video make sure you like the video subscribe to the channel and
