$2000 Roll Cage vs $4000 Roll Cage

**Boost Creeps: Hi-Low Car Build**

We've been working on a new project, a high-performance car build that's all about pushing the limits of what's possible with modern engineering and design. In this episode, we're going to take a closer look at our experience building the ultimate Hi-Low car.

We started by installing a roll cage in our Low team car. We had a bit of a mishap with the cage last time around, but this one was a breeze. It took our team about an hour to install, which is pretty impressive considering how complex it is.

Once we had the cage in place, we took both cars to our secret test facility to see if we could notice any differences in rigidity. And boy, were we pleasantly surprised. The added stiffness from the roll cage made a huge difference, and we can't wait to put this car through its paces.

But what really sets our Hi-Low car apart is the attention to detail that's gone into every aspect of its design. From the carbon fiber door panels that fall off daily to the custom interior trim, everything has been carefully selected to create a driving experience like no other.

We've also got some exciting news: our boost creeps merch is finally here! You can get your hands on some sick gear and show off your team spirit.

When it comes to roll cages, we know that more expensive doesn't always mean better. But in this case, the higher-end option really does make a difference. We opted for a $4,000 cage, which was a bit of an investment but worth every penny.

So, which type of roll cage would you choose? Would you go for the budget-friendly option or splurge on something custom-made? Let us know in the comments below!

We're also excited to announce that our interior is coming along nicely. We've got some amazing trim pieces and a top-notch sound system that's going to take this car to the next level.

**Nolan's Take**

"I would go with the low-car cage, it looks amazing," says Nolan. "I actually like the white, I think it pops."

James adds, "We were both on board with the idea of getting a custom cage for our high-performance car, but after seeing how much more expensive the universal option was, we decided to go for something a bit more budget-friendly."

**The Verdict**

Our Hi-Low car build is all about pushing the limits of what's possible with modern engineering and design. From the roll cage to the carbon fiber door panels, every aspect of this car has been carefully selected to create a driving experience like no other.

WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: en- $2,000 steel roll cage.- versus $4,000 top of theline, Chromoly roll cage.- Does more expensive, mean more better.- Let's find out,- We're back baby(James Gamingbecause he listened to usand used Keeps I assume, I don't know.Is it too late for Peconic gaming.- Keeps changed the process ofgetting hair loss medication.- Before keeps, we all hadto spend awkward morningsat the doctor's office,- Hiding behind magazines inshame of the failing follicleson top of your head.- The embarrassment.- The shame.- And the pain.- But now thanks to Keeps it'seasy to hold onto that hairby offering online doctor visitsfor hair loss, medication.- That is then delivered toyour door every three months,- But it's important you actsooner rather than later.- As keeps treatments typically, take between four to sixmonths to see results,- The results, the resultsspeak for themselves.- So avoid the awkward doctor visitsand horrible come overs.- Visit keeps.com/hilow, andget 50% off your first order.- That's K-E-E-P-S.com/hilow- Support the companiesthat support donut. So we're able to doanother season of HiLow.- We bought two identical Nissan, 350 Zs,and we've been modifying them to be fun, daily drivers that youcan take to the track.- One Z gets expensive parts, and one of them gets cheaper.'Cause that's all that they deserve. We've thrown a bunch ofparts on these things.I'm talking coil-overs,- Brakes.- Wheels, and tires.- seats.- And,(car engine roaring)Turbo kits dude, and nowthese cars are so fastthat we have to install rollcages because we're scared.I'm getting a professionallyinstalled $4,000,four point Bolton, custom paintedand color match Chromoly roll cage.- And I'm getting a $2,000 fourpoint Bolton steel roll cagethat I will have to install myself. We know that $2,000 isn't cheap.- I don't have $2,000.- But we try to do it for cheap. And we all know how that went.- We just spent six hourstrying to fit our roll cages in.And, we're throwing in the towel.Lesson learned, we cheaped outand we bought identical $200,half cages off of the internet. And then we found out what you get, with a $200, half cage, off the internet. This time around, wedecided that the best optionwould be cages that were madespecifically for our cars.- But there are a lot of different optionswhen it comes to the cages. How do you know which cage you need?Does it matter if you have aBolton cage versus welded in?And what does four point even mean? What about six point? There's a lot of misinformationin keyboard warriors out therewhen it comes to roll cages. So let's just jump right in.This place is sick.- Funny seeing your boys here,- Here we are at studio RSR.These guys build a ton of cages. These guys are nice enoughto bring out two cars, one with a four point roll cage, one with a six point roll cage.- So this is your basicfour point roll cage. It's got a main hoop here, that follows the B pillar of the car.And has two points thatmount into the floor, then you've got two more barsgoing back towards the wheel of the car, which complete the triangleshape, it's very strong.- Although this is a basic four point. It's good enough for mostNASA and SCCA events, which are the most popular eventsthat we'd be partaking in in America.- A six point roll cage addstwo more points of contactbetween the cage and the chassis, with bars running along theroof and down the A pillarlike a saw.A lot of times they'll have door barsconnecting this frontbar to the main hoop, which look really cool, but are kind of a pain in theass, getting in and out of- You really shouldn'tnecessarily run a six point cageunless you're willing to wear a helmet, when you go to the grocery store.some people say that ifyou have a bucket seatwith harnesses and you'reusing everything correctly, that you'll be okay. But the fact is the roll cageis gonna be close to your headthan the stock structure would've been. And it might obstructyour side curtain airbags. For that reason, I don't thinkwe're going with a six point.- Better, safe than sorrywhen it comes to my melon.- Maybe that's just the...,- That might just be that.- This is the cage for low car.You can tell, 'cause it's stilluncoated and out of the car.'Cause we gotta install in low car,but this thing looks pretty sick.Let's go look at high car.- Ooh.- All right a littlejealous, a little bit.- That matches the wheels so well.So this is high car'scage and it looks sick.I bet I'll be able to feel the difference. You'd probably pick up a wheel.- Yeah, it probably shouldstiffen things up a little bit.You think, you know.- Oh, well let's it in the van.Take it back to the shop and stick it in.- Cool.- So today we are installingfinally our roll cage.Unlike high car, we areinstalling our cage ourselves, which means we have to take the seats out, take the plastic trim out, maybe cut up some carpetto make it fit, right. All we're gonna need to dothis job are few hand toolsand some gumption. Now roll that music.(Upbeat music)- So the first thingwe're gonna do on high caris install our harnesses.- Now from both cars,We went with these sexyTakata four point harnesses.- Four points means thatit attaches to the chassisat four different points. One, two, three, four.So pretty much this, but in there.- We're taking out the seatsso we can put the rollcage in pretty easily.- Just getting ready to drill some holesgonna mock up the base of the cage, draw out the holes to wherewe need to drill them. And then get going.Best part is you comeup on change and tools, and a bandaid.- Our main concerns right now,is that we won't be able,to keep our seatingposition that we had set up,'cause we really liked where we had it.Should we stand it up?- Yeah, Ooh (beep) we're in.- Dude.- Bam.- Pull your side forward, well this is holding it back. It's caught on the plastic.- So right now I justreplaced the first boltfrom the stock seatbeltwith a Takata islet.James removed the topbolt for the seatbelt. And then I just nowneed to remove the boltfrom the stock buckle andthen replace that boltwith another one of these islets. What the (beep) is this for.- Okay, so we do have a small problem. We're having a small, small fitment issue.Front fits, but the rear does not fit.So it's like an almost, a full inch gapthat needs to go back further, which is kind of an issue.I'll hit the top of it.- Okay.- To try to give it like Supreme leverage.- That's moving a little bit,but I mean, it's still a big gap.- Well good thing iswe're only five minutes in- Yeah.- You wrap the seatbelt around the cageand then back through this D-ringa couple of different times and it locks,it doesn't come off. This is my first time wrappingsome harnesses on a cage, but it's pretty easy. They give you a little diagram. You can't screw it up.- You know, Low teamis just in a perpetual stateof traveling in betweenscrewed and not screwed. So this ain't normal.I really wish they just gave uslike a sheet of instructions.- Over, around, back up, over.- We don't know if the otherholes on the front part.- Right.- On those feet are lining up.So what we should do, wejack up the rear of the car, bolt up these back ones and then.- Try to get the front.- We make the front work.We should peel away more of the carpetand see where the holes are.'Cause we just might bemaking a dumb mistake, which knowing our history, we have done.- He's got a point.- It's so much work.- Check out this freaking belt, dude.Ready for this?- That's it onone side, then done low.- Let's do that side.- Yeah, yeah.- Okay.Take this.- This way or down?- Down, down, down, down there.- Ooh.- It's a perfect fit.- Take it out, take it out redo it.We'll get the shot.- No, no (beep) you Aaron.- So it's a little too tightto get the islet on down thereto bolt in the harness. So we are going to haveto take out this seat, but compared with what'sgoing on with the other guys.- Remember it, Nolan, that'sgot to come out again. So don't all the way try it.- You're joking, right?- Well, we gotta mock it upand we got to drill the holes.- What holes? These ones down here?- To open this up.- So we have to take thiswhole (beep) thing out.- Not technically just, don't worry, just breathe.Breathe.- All right, all right.I'm not doing anymore.- Let's try to get the back, mount it up they'll get first. And then we can deal with the front.- Okay, I think it fits.- You know how like you guys just buywhat you guys want for that car.So do you guys think thatyou really need tools'cause you keep taking our tools and we,we actually need them to build our car.- We didn't take your tools. You're manufacturing drama here. All right, what is this Velocity channels.- Over here on team Hi,our roll cage was alreadyprofessionally installedso we don't have to do that.- So what are we gonna do?- Well, this is a race carand what do race cars have?$1,500 carbon fiber door panels.Ridiculous.- Did you drop it on the Jack.- Sure.Ouch, (beep) you all right.- Yeah, do I have a nice shiner?Got hit right therewith the jack, anything?- Yeah, a little bit.- Okay.- Nolan and Aaron are havinga pretty tough time with it right now.So we thought that we'd cheer them upand show them the steezy new door cardsthat we ordered for them.I think they're going to love them.- Have not seen these yet.So, I hope there's not a(beep) on them or anything.(All laugh)- No (beep) way, dude.(Nolan laughs)(beep)- This one has the whole crew on it.- Oh my God,- That's from Albuquerque.- Yeah.- Dude, I love it.That's amazing.Thank you guys. I love it, I love it.- We'll get these in.We'll get our lovely custom door cards in,but first we've got to get the cage in.- So I'm just marking the baseplate for our Bolton cage. It's a little bit tweaked. So we're going to drillthe flange on the car.- I can see holes enough.- I can see holes, man.- Hell yeah.- Dude nice job.- Ooh, hashtag Low.Just like that, Low car, it's official.Get yours at donutmedia.com right now.- So we decided to be cheeky and cuteand get ourselves a side project.'Cause we didn't have enough to do today.Just installing our harnesses. So we decided to pick up this, save on carbon door panelsand it has just been thebane of my existence. It's been about six hours now.I've been trying fit 'em and trim 'em.- Let's switch fields nasty now.- All right. So we have all the fastenersin here to finger tight. Now what we're going to dois tighten up the rears to the chassis.Come back up here, tighten them down hereand throw the seats inand pray to God they fit.Roll cage is in.- Now that the roll cage is in.We can finally trim the rear piece. For this, we used tractsto trim the plasticaround the roll cage.We can test fit the seats. They're gonna fit.- Let's do it.- Well, the seat fits, just in a much further forward positionthan we're used to.- Little tight.- There we go.We're gonna try to close the door, make sure that the it closes.Make sure it doesn't hit the door jamor our wriggle seats,or make any weird, funny crunchy noises.(Car door closes)Well, there's definitely aweird, funny, crunchy noise.(Car door closes)- That fits, but youhave to really slam it.- Perfect fitment.I think this is the firstreal big L for, for high car.Obviously we had the cagethe first time around, that didn't go so good, butthese just don't fit very well.I mean, they're goodenough to stay on the car,but I am not pleased.- Okay.- You hear. That works, that's a real relief.- Telling the truth,it took Hi team like the whole daybecause they don'treally work on their car,to install their door panelsit only took Nolan likemaybe 45 minutes.- An hour.- An hour.We have the interior of lowcar pretty much dialed in.- We're gonna use some otherstuff in a few episodesto make it a little more swaggy in here. But I mean, we're finally where,it should have been last season.(upbeat music)- After Low team finishedin installing their cage,we took both cars to oursuper secret test facilityto see if we can noticeany difference in rigidity in the chassis.- Up, up.- So another thing I've been noticing, especially when the rearend comes out like thatis just how stiff the car feels now.I think that has a lotto do with the roll cage.- I mean, this cage is abunch of really thick poles, just bolting stress pointsof the car together.- It's added the rigidity I think.- Yeah.- For sure.- So not only does itadd a lot more safety,it adds a lot more stiffness to the chest.- It does because nothingelse that we've donehas really stiffen up the chassisand this thing feels tight.- Yeah.- But I kind of wannapitch this thing really.- Okay. Let's do it.- Okay.- Oh, oh, oh,oh no, we're rolling.- So Nolan does moreexpensive, mean more better?- Ah, i don't think so, question mark.- But kind of like kind of?- But kind of?- To a certain extent, moreexpensive does mean more better, because as you saw in a previous video,we tried to cheap out on our roll cagesand they didn't fit at all.- 0h, yeah.- So I think...- Okay, that kind of changesthe discussion a little bit, expensive is way better if we,if you're comparinguniversal, I don't even,I don't remember how muchthose cost, 200 bucks.- Yeah.- Yeah. If you're gonnahave a roll cage and carspend the money to make itsomething that'll actually fitand save your life.- There is a certain point thatyou don't want to go below.- You want to get a cage thatis made for your specific car.- Absolutely.- You might be wondering, why did we get something that bolts inand not have a totally customcage built for a high car?And the answer is everything on these carsis available off the shelf. You can go to studio RSRand get this very cage.So the difference betweenthe $200 universal cageto low cars, $2,000 cage,I do think that more expensivedefinitely means more better, but the difference betweenlow cars, $2,000 cageand high cars, $4,000 cage, the difference is pretty minimal. So Nolan, which one would you buy?- I would go with the low cars cage.It looks amazing, as I've said,I actually like thewhite, I think it pops.I agree, I would go with low cars cageand I would also go withlow cars door panels.- Oh yeah.- The installation was way easier. Our carbon fiber doorpanels fall off daily.- I just wanna say how excitedI am to be back in HiLowback in these chairs, talking with you.- Hey man.- We were, I don't know. This is like the best show ever. And I want to thank you guys for watchingand making it possiblethat we get to do it again. So, thank you.- Thank you.Follow donut on Twitterand Instagram @Donutmedia.Follow me on both of those @JamesPumphrey.Follow Nolan on both of those @NolanJSykesand get yourself somemerch, DonutMedia.com.We've got some boostcreeps merch coming out.So you can rep that you arepart of the boost creeps.Oh, we also have a HiLowstickers in the shop now.So go get one, so youcan let everyone knoware you team Hi or are you team Low.- Dude, it's so funny, it's so hilarious. Its so freaking funny dude.Be kind.- I love you.- See you next time.
