The Joy of College: Essential Items to Bring Along
A hammock would be great and fun to study with. There were like tons of kids at my college who got little fold up hammocks and they would just whip it out and like tie it between two trees and like lay there and chill and read or they would study there. It was super relaxing to hang out in a hammock, whether you're reading, studying, or just hanging out with friends.
I also loved the idea of having a hammock for two people, so you can like hang out with your friend or boyfriend in it. We went to this river one time and a bunch of my friends were swimming, but one of the girls in our group didn't really want to swim, so she just laid in a hammock by the river and watched us all swim. It looked super relaxing.
A hammock is just great for tons of different reasons. I wish I had brought one with me when I needed medicine and a first aid kit. If you're like me and get sick sometimes, it's not fun to have to get on the bus and go to HB to buy some cold medicine. But if you already have those things with you, that would be super easy and great.
A first aid kit is also really helpful in case you get a little cut or something. You just want to throw on a quick Band-Aid, and it's super convenient to have one of those around. And then there's small collapsible luggage - I wish I had thought of that when I was bringing my actual luggage bag to college. It took up so much room in my dorm room, and it was just unnecessary because I didn't go home that much.
But later on in the year, I invested in a small collapsible piece of luggage that folds up to be like this big and then you can also unzip it to stretch it out to be like this big. So I could fit a ton of stuff in it, and it took up really low amounts of space in my dorm room.
A rain jacket would have been so helpful at the beginning of the year. If you don't have an umbrella, it's just nice to know for sure that you're not going to get wet at all. Especially if I was carrying a lot of things and the umbrella is just another thing to carry. And if the rain is like blowing at an angle, your rain jacket will just for sure protect you cuz you can zip up in it put on a hoodie and you're good to go.
Having a fan would also be super helpful, especially if you live in a dorm where you can't control the air conditioning at all. I made sure to bring lots of blankets because that's what I could do, but having a fan would have been even better. It gets really hot at night when it's like 10 o'clock or midnight, and a fan is just great to sleep with.
A bike would also be super helpful if your campus is big, like mine was. Sometimes it's hard to bike because campus can be crowded, but overall I think a bike would just be fun to ride around the city instead of having to take the bus all the time or ride my bike to class. Next year, since I'm going to be in an apartment which would be a little further from campus than my dorm was, a bike would be great to get to class super fast.
Overall, these are just some essentials that you should consider bringing along to college. Whether it's a hammock, a rain jacket, or a fan, there's something on this list for everyone. So if you have any other tips or tricks or things that would be cool to bring to college, let me know in the comments!
