4U Custom Water Server (Part 3 Threadripper Server Build) -- LGH

Here is the rewritten article:

I'm excited to be working on a new project, and today I'm going to show you how to power up my brand new Threadripper system for the first time.

First things first, let me show you this fan. Some people might call it long, but it's not that bad. It was just misunderstood. Plus, it'll be my first time powering up a Threadripper and owning a powerful CPU. I shouldn't say first time powering up because I did power up some used boards we bought so I can make that claim.

But what I'm doing here is I'm pulling... hmm did I want to do it that way? So now I'm pulling here this way, and I want to pull cold there in this way. Wait a minute, I think I wanted it the other way around guys! This will exhaust it, yeah that's fine because this is taking um... this will be taking the cool air between the system and the rack and pushing it out again.

I'm gonna have to try it, gonna have to try it, what's the worst thing it's gonna do? A flex hose so I'll be able to take it off move it around change fans whatever I want. And that is something very important when doing this server because if I can't move things around and I have to rely on everything being fixed then why bother?

I didn't bother with heat tubing yet, hard to me when you need to do maintenance and it could be an issue. When you see project game over when I finally show it off proper you guys will understand that you can make a tube system look hard too.

Hey while I'm at this and I'm installing Be Quiet builds like this would not exist if it wasn't for them. They're good, they've been with me forever and believed in me when I was nothing, not saying I'm something now but I'm bigger than the nothing I was.

So this whole system will be cool other than the water cooling system, because of the RADS and everything will be cooled. The front fans are going to be cooled by Be Quiet, which is awesome. And, really nice heavy rad too guys, I'm really really excited. Oh wait a minute, I did want it that way.

So now I'll have to figure out how the water cooling system is going to work here at all. Have not even contemplated it so basically these will all get nicely tied and go back to a three-way which I picked up some nice braided ones to kind of match everything that's going on here. Don't know if that's enough to bring them into the system, highly doubt it.

What at least I have them, foreign...

Also, a complete shout out to Be Quiet builds because they're amazing and they've been my best friend in this business. Their product is incredible, so this whole system will be powered and cooled again, if it wasn't for them I wouldn't be able to afford to do this.

Really awesome if they came up with server cases built on the same integrity and design that they do with their other stuff can you imagine damping panels and everything on it 'd be one nice beautiful quiet server that would make a lot of people happy including myself. But that's why I don't use um brand name servers like HP Dell or Lenovo because they're they sound like fighter planes taking off, and as much as I don't put my servers in this room they're in my furnace room.

Umm so for my benefit and My Wife and Kids literally come back to my benefit I build custom clone servers so there we have it, we have all of our Be Quiet fans ready to rock. Gotta say it's starting to look pretty cool.

WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enguys it's another day and I finally got the power cables come in and again I will leave links for all this stuff in description if you're looking to build a nice little Home Server again don't you can pick whatever you want for your board and your CPU it really depends on what your budget is and what you're doing and these are the cables here that are going to connect all my drives to the motherboard now I picked a board of course that has eight uh out side of the inputs and I have only a case a server case that can support eight drives so that made it nice and Simple and Clean now nice thing about these is they are numbered so whatever I plug in here corresponds with here and it'll be this side here is a one and then underneath two three four and then I'll pretend one two three four for this bank so that's just the easiest way for me to do it so first I want to take a look at the power the power is going to be more of a a daisy chain type setup instead of having um a whole bunch of power cables coming in we will bring one cable per per block and take care of all the power and then go back to one on the power supply so that makes this much much cleaner much easier and I won't see a big spider web of wires so right off the bat we have one of them that is going to be the extension and that's this one here and these ones here are the ones that are going to plug into the drive and I just want to go down the way like that okay so we're basically going in okay so I mean that does keep it pretty neat right we don't have to have so much going on there and then this one here well this is going to have to be done nicely a different way but I do I do wish that this here was at the bottom not at the top but hey it is what it is here when I get the drive and then this can go out here so there we go so there's our two power connectors for all these drives it's nice I mean I'll see if I can do a little bit more cleaning when I'm doing it but it looks pretty good I mean that looks awesome compared to wire wire wire it just look like a big stream mess so let's see if I went the right way with these now the one thing right away that I liked about them one is this nice thin wire and these are uh six gigabit cables so no no loss or anything there um I think I'm gonna leave them coiled if I can for the simple reason that well they don't have to go far so bank one is going to be over here and Bank one's going to be right here so when I look at it that way if I go one now here's the beauty I'm gonna know what hard drive is giving me trouble if I need to do something so number two goes down on the bottom on the first row on this board now keep in mind whatever board you pick is going to be different in most cases may not be but it could be so now we're taking number four and I'm putting it in number four this is easier to get the bottom done than it is to get the top done okay so now you know that there is two and there is four and now we have to plug in oops no that's right that's right I'm getting on a little crazed out of my head here so number one and number three so as you can see they're all plugged in and you can see how I can make this really really neat so now we're going to go number one now as you can see how nice and neat that made that I took the coil and I just put it underneath the bottom hard drive so completely cleaning it right up and it looks great so hard drive one two three four same thing corresponds here so now we know that so now we're going to have one two three four all over again but that's not a big deal because we're going to count one two three four just like we did here even though it is five six seven eight but as far as the cableing is concerned one two three four there we go so we still have our front fins to hook up I delete the other ones right oops here we have our headers to hook up we have Ram to put in power supply video card but before I put the video card of course we're going to get the water tubing how I want it I already designed and I gotta print the uh the 3D printed water Outlets so that's coming um now we I'm I mean we're way ahead now we have everything that we want plugged in plugged in and like I said now you know which drives are here and which drives might be an issue when you're trying to troubleshoot a bad Drive sorry you're proud like I said you're probably hearing the printer and uh it's kind of absolute needed now because I'm behind um so what this is going to do this is another for you bracket that will go like where a server would go on the front of the rack mount now it's vented it has holes and the idea behind that is I am going to bolt the rad the 360 all copper Rod to the inside of this doing so it'll be pulling the air in from here and the fans will exhaust it out through the system and my water is going to be external so water will come from here and go out the 3D printed thing and go down under and become a external water cooling system in theory I'm happy because it's really cool and I never did anything like this before but I'm also scared so let's get this opened see what I'm dealing with as you can see here this was probably the best vented to the best I know of that I could get that I'd be able to bolt into anywhere I want you can see here it has the screw fittings for the rack 19 inch and the only thing I'm worried about now is will a rad lineup proper and be usable and I guess the other thing is oh Spruce good I was worried it didn't come to screws but it did so we got our hoses here so that means I would do something like this so you get the idea right we'll bolt that on there and hopefully I have enough with all these holes looks like I can uh uh it's gonna be touchy but even if it goes down it doesn't matter just need to line up holes that's the closest I'm gonna get I think is right there now it'll be on a little bit of an angle the way I did it it's not that bad keep the outspout down low we should be good so we'll mount it this way let's screw in some more screws make sure it's secure feeling a little better about it now because doing it this way I have some more screws the screw holes on both sides to play with all right but it has it sits that is absolutely solid looks like we have enough air passage there to not be too restrictive so at that point we now have the rod mounted and I just have to remember which angle is down this is the downside so that's going to be the out in okay so in and then back out so that's that now we just need the fans I'm going to use uh silent Wing threes they have a decent static pressure I'm going to use these for that it's going to be an open water cooling system they're going to be phenomenal accessory boxes whoops and uh that is the water block down there oh well I guess I had things planned in a different way one two it's empty so I must have used it for some sort of thing and this would have been the retail one okay yeah when they sent them to me they sent me a retail bundle I guess more for display and then they sent me the ones that you just throw together there are no ends on them so it's up to me whether like I did with the front I put the push pin ends on and it looks really good but on the rad I'm going to have to put the screw down tight so we got some good length here which is great because with all the extensions I have to go all these down to three to one and then an extension to go from the one into the motherboard for pwm I'm gonna need neither and then this is the cool part that I love so much and I did do a video on these so I'm going to be using these this is the push pin clip these are the screwings so you just go like this and you basically just go like this until they are locked and just keep repeating until they are done weird that these screws the heads like I mean they're strong screws do not crack like this some of the ones I'm used to but they're um they don't work with my gig with my regular screwdrivers oh yeah these things are oops nope just in the wrong spot I was like wow forgot these fans are a little some some might call them long but it wasn't the case it was just the uh missed the whole plus it'll be my first time powering up and owning a threadripper I shouldn't say first time powering up because I did power up the used boards we bought so I can't say that totally but it'll be my first time putting in OS and and actually running it so that's pretty cool so what I'm doing here is I'm pulling hmm did I want to do it that way so now I'm pulling here this way I want to pull cold there in this way I put that fan on backwards guys see good thing I'm paying attention while I'm talking to myself really nice heavy rad too guys I'm really really excited oh wait a minute I did want it this one guys I think this dress is getting to me I don't know huh this will exhaust it yeah that's fine because this is taking um this will be taking the cool air between the system and the rack and pulling it in pushing it out again I'm gonna have to try it gonna have to try it what's the worst thing it's gonna be on a a flex hose so I'll be able to take it off move it around change fans do whatever I want and that is something very important when doing this server because if I can't move things around and I have to rely on uh everything being fixed hence the reason why I didn't bother with heart tubing yet hard to me when you need to do maintenance it could be an issue and when you see project game over when I finally show it off proper you guys will understand that you can make a tube system soft tube look hard too guys while I'm at this and I'm installing be quiet on the system I would like to thank them because if it wasn't for be quiet builds like this would not exist and they don't necessarily sponsor I endorse them because they they're good and they've been with me forever and believed in me when I was nothing not saying I'm something now but I'm bigger than the nothing I was and I have to say complete shout out to them because they have been my best friend in this business and their product is amazing so this whole system will be cool other than the water but the RADS and everything will be cooled the front fans are going to be cooled bye be quiet I did not reach out to see if they had any 80 mils I might do that in the near future but bottom line is it's going to be powered and cooled again and if it wasn't for them I wouldn't be able to afford to do this be really awesome if they came up with server cases built on the same integrity and design that they do with their other stuff can you imagine dampening panels and everything on it 'd be one nice beautiful quiet server that would make a lot of people happy including myself but that's why I don't use um brand name servers like HP Dell or Lenovo because they're they sound like fighter planes taking off and as much as I don't put my servers in this room they're in my furnace room um they're still you still don't need to hear while you're trying to sleep because you're going to hear that upstairs that is not something you can hide so for my benefit and My Wife and Kids literally come back to my benefit I build custom clone servers so there we have it we have all of our be quiet fans ready to rock I gotta say it's starting to look pretty cool so that will Mount I know it should look like it mounts right on the front of this case but it doesn't it's going to be either on top like so in the Rack or underneath and then the hoses will come I haven't figured out at all guys how the water cooling is going to go here at all have not even contemplated it so basically these will all get nicely tied and go back to a three-way which I picked up some nice braided ones to kind of match everything that's going on here I don't know if that's enough to bring them into the system I highly doubt it what at least I have them foreign
