iOS 14 - Change Charging Sound & Set Custom App Icons on Home Screen!

**Using WidgetSmith to Customize Your iOS 14 Springboard**

To begin with, you can download the WidgetSmith app from the App Store and search for it directly. Once you've found the app, select the "Download" option to install it on your device. After installing the app, you'll need to find another widget called "Color Widgets". This will open up a new window where you can choose to download the Color Widgets app as well.

**Editing Small Number One**

Once you're in WidgetSmith, you'll see an option for small number one. Clicking on this option allows you to customize the widget's appearance. By default, it shows a basic clock, but you have the ability to change the font, color, background, border, and more. If you don't want to use any of these features, you can simply scroll down to the bottom of the screen to see a list of available widgets that don't require any customization.

**Customizing the Small Number One Widget**

To customize the small number one widget, tap on it again to access its settings. You'll then be presented with a range of options for changing the font, color, background, and border. This is where you can get really creative and make your widget truly unique. For example, if you want to add some personality to your widget, you could change the font to something bold and playful.

**Styling Options**

WidgetSmith offers a wide range of styling options for its widgets. You can change the time and date settings, as well as the location, font, color, background, border, and more. The font options are particularly impressive, with a range of different styles and sizes to choose from. This means you can customize your widget's appearance to match your personal style.

**Additional Widgets**

If you want to add even more widgets to your springboard, you'll need to use the "Add Small Widget" option within WidgetSmith. This will allow you to create a new widget with its own set of customization options. You can also switch between different widgets by tapping and holding on one of them, then selecting "Edit Widget". This will allow you to customize any of your existing widgets.

**Color Widgets**

If you're looking for something a bit more premium, you may want to check out the Color Widgets app. This app offers a range of additional widgets that can be used to add some extra personality to your springboard. These include widgets that show the time, date, and charging level, as well as some more creative options like inspirational quotes and upcoming events from your calendar.

**Syncing with iPhone**

One of the best things about WidgetSmith is its ability to sync with your iPhone. This means that any data you enter into one device will be reflected on the other, making it easy to stay organized and on top of your schedule. For example, if you use your iPhone's Calendar app to set upcoming events, you'll also see them in your springboard widgets.

**Adding Custom Elements**

WidgetSmith allows you to add custom elements to your widgets, such as photos or reminders. This means you can make your widgets truly unique and personalized to your needs. For example, if you're trying to stay on top of your fitness goals, you could use the step count widget feature within Widgetsmith to track your progress.

**Accessing Premium Features**

While some of the features in WidgetSmith are free, others require a premium subscription. If you want access to these features, you'll need to upgrade your account or purchase additional widgets from the app store. However, even with the free options, you can still get a lot out of the app and customize your springboard to look however you like.

**Tips for Customizing Your Springboard**

If you're looking to get the most out of your iOS 14 springboard, there are a few tips and tricks you can use. First, make sure to explore all of the available widgets and customization options within WidgetSmith. Second, don't be afraid to experiment with different layouts and arrangements until you find one that works for you. And finally, take some time to get familiar with your springboard's settings menu, where you'll find options for customizing everything from your home screen to your notification center.

**Adding a Custom Charging Sound**

If you're looking to add an extra touch of personality to your springboard, you can customize the charging sound. To do this, open up WidgetSmith and select the "Edit" option on the small number one widget. From there, tap on the "Sound" option and select from a range of different sounds to use when your device is charging.

**Using the Plus Button**

If you're looking to add a new widget to your springboard, but don't want to leave WidgetSmith, you can use the plus button to access additional widgets. Tap and hold on any of the available widgets within Widgetsmith, then select "Add Small Widget" from the menu that appears. From there, you'll be able to choose from a range of different widgets and customize them using the app's settings.

**Accessing More Widgets**

If you're looking for even more widgets to add to your springboard, you may want to check out some of the additional apps available in the App Store. Some popular options include the "Widgetsmith Extras" app, which offers a range of additional widgets and customization options, as well as the "Springboard Studio" app, which allows you to create custom springboard layouts from scratch.

**Using Springboard Studio**

If you're looking for a more advanced level of customization, you may want to check out the Springboard Studio app. This app allows you to create custom springboard layouts using a range of different widgets and design elements. It's a great option if you're feeling creative and want to take control of your springboard's appearance.

"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enwhat's up guys my name is brandon and ios 14 allows us to customize our iphones more than ever before and i'm sure by now you guys have seen all the cool custom home pages going around over on social media so i wanted to make a tutorial showing you some more unique ways to customize your device here on ios 14. so in this video i'm going to show you how to change your app icon so as you can see there i have the mac os big sur icons here on my iphone so i'm going to show you how to change those app icons and pretty much theme your device on ios 14 as well as make custom widgets like you see right here and also how to change the charging sound on your iphone so let's not waste any time let's go ahead and get straight into this we're going gonna start off with the charging sound so now in ios 14 you can set a custom charging sound for when your phone gets plugged in and even when you unplug your phone from charging so take a listen to my phone when i plug it into charge so yes you heard that right that is the air power sound that i have there on my iphone here in ios 14 and i'm going to show you how you can do that as well or how you can make siri say something when you plug your phone in and when you unplug it as well i know there are some viral tick tocks going around where you can make your phone say some pretty funny things so i'm going to show you how to do that as well so of course to do this we do need the shortcuts application which should be installed by default if not you can just go to the app store and search for shortcuts and you will see it right here so once you're in the shortcuts application go down to the bottom to the automation tab right here then click the plus up in the top right corner and you want to create personal automation and then once you're on this page you just want to scroll all the way down until you see charger so this is new this whole section here is brand new in ios 14 and we're going to go ahead and select on charger and we're going to start off with is connected so make sure that is there go to next we're gonna click on add action and the first one i'm gonna show you guys is going to be where siri can basically just say something when you plug your phone in so that is the easiest one to do here in automations and then after i show you how to do that i will show you how to add a custom sound like you heard in the beginning where i played that air power sound that's what my phone plays i will show you how to do that you can also do like any song or just any sound you want so i'll show you that here in a moment so to do the text speaking so when you plug it in you hear siri say something you want to just go up to the search right here and you want to search for speak text so you can see right there if i just type in speak you'll see under actions speak text and from here you just want to click on where it says text and just type in whatever text you want siri to say when you plug your phone in and you can type in whatever you want here there is no filter on siri so even if you wanted to put some curse words or something like that you could do that obviously that's not what i'm going to do but you know there are no limits to what you can type in here so i'm just going to say i don't know charge me up that's so lame but we're going to just type in charge me up and then show more right here we'll have a couple of different options that we could change right here as well so wait until finished i'm just going to go ahead and disable that and then we have the rate and the pitch and also the language and the voice here as well so if you wanted to change you know if you're not an english speaker you can change the language and also the voice you can change from siri female to something like samantha or any of these guy voices right here so you can change those i just like mine as default just the siri female i like that and we can change the rate here as well so you'll be able to hear as well when you change these what it sounds like so i'm just going to tap on done and see how this sounds i'm just going to press play in the bottom right charge me up so you could hear how she said it really slow so i'm going to increase the rate right here so i'm going to make her say it a little bit faster once you have it how you like it just press on next and then you want to ask before running turn that off and then tap don't ask that way it just does it automatically and then click on done and you are good to go and of course if you wanted something to be said or a sound to be played when you disconnect it from power we're just going to go ahead and click on plus up in the top right create personal automation go down to charger again but this time we're going to do is disconnected and then we're going to follow the exact same steps that i just showed you right there now if you guys want a sound to play when you plug in your phone or unplug your phone like i showed the air power sound earlier in this video let me go ahead and show you how to do that so for this you're actually not going to set an automation first you're going to actually download a shortcut which i will have linked down in the description below it's called encode to base64. so you'll need to download this and you'll also need to download the sound that you want to be using via dropbox or just somewhere online where you actually have the file inside of your files application and if you guys want to use the air power sound i will have that linked down in the description below as well so once you have the air power sound saved to your files application you just want to go ahead and run the encode to base64 shortcut right here and you want to find that file inside of your files application you'll probably have to go to browse right here and then to either icloud drive or downloads wherever you have it saved so you can see mine is in my downloads folder and it's right here so i'm going to tap on that and it will pull up this right here so you'll see all of this text it's random text it doesn't mean anything to you but what you need to do is go and tap the share icon on the top right and just select copy you just want to copy all of this text tap on done and now we're ready to create the automation now that that is saved to our clipboard so we're going to go ahead and tap on the plus create personal automation scroll down to charger is connected next add action we're going to search for text we're going to paste that text that we just copied right there we're going to tap on the plus we're going to search for base64 and you'll see base64 encode tap on that then we want to click on encode and we want to decode this message right here this code right here and then we're going to tap on the plus again and then search for play sound and we want to go ahead and play sound right there and then you do also have this sound file right here which it should be selected at by default but if not make sure that is set and you are good to go but one thing i do like adding on to my shortcut automations at the end is always an exit for some reason sometimes some of them will like loop so i like having the exit shortcut there at the end as well just to make sure that the shortcut automation actually ends and doesn't just continue going on but that is just optional you don't need that for this to work so if you guys want to hear it and make sure it works just tap on the little play icon down here in the bottom right hand corner so you can hear that awesome air power sound right there and once you click play and it goes through this it will actually take you to this section right here but if it didn't just go ahead to next right here you want to deselect ask before running don't ask done and there you go you're good to go and you will hear the air power sound or whatever sound you want to play when you plug your phone in or when you unplug your phone if you use the other method like i showed you earlier and of course since this is in the shortcuts application you can set up things like low power mode to go on when you plug in your phone you know for faster charging so there's all kind of things you can do but of course i'm just showing you in this video how to change the sound when you plug in your phone or disconnect your phone from the charger all right so now let's go ahead and talk about ways to change the app icons here in ios 14 and there are actually two different ways to do this you can see over here on the left i have these custom icons and these are the default icons here on the right so these are the big sur icons that you see on the new version of mac os and now i have those here on my iphone so i'm going to show you how to do that so this method actually relies on a profile that you'll install and it's not actually using shortcuts at all so i will show you the shortcuts method as well that is probably the most popular one and also the most tedious and time-consuming one so i'm going to show you the one that's faster and the one that relies on a profile so what you want to do is go ahead into safari and we're just going to go to this website right here which i will have linked down in the description below so from here we're just going to go ahead and slide down until we get to browse by themes and then if we scroll down you can see you have all these different themes right here you can also sort it by newest most installed or most popular so i'll just go to most popular right now if we go ahead and go down a little bit you can see we have all of these different themes right here so i'm just going to go to one we'll just do we'll just say avalon right here this one looks pretty cool and you can see some of the icons there we also get some of these screenshots for what the icons look like so once you find one that you like you just want to go down here where it says install theme and you want to go to application icons or if you wanted to make your own custom icons you could do that right there as well but i'm just going to go ahead to application icons right here and then we're going to go to we'll just say like amazon app store calendar camera google chrome things like that and once you have all of them selected and you can change the name of what the label says on your home screen by typing it in right there as well but once you have all the ones you want to be installed selected go down to the bottom here and you will see generate theme tap on that and then you will see this prompt right here asking to download the profile click on allow go to close then you want to go into your settings and just keep in mind that the settings icon for some reason does not work with this method so you will have to maybe just not install the settings icon so anyways once you're in here you will see profile downloaded up top right there go ahead to install put in your passcode install done and then go back to your home screen and you will see we have those custom icons right there which is pretty neat and of course they do open up that application as well so you do see a little bit of a redirect there now if you wanted to get rid of that you can so if we go to our settings accessibility and motion reduce motion you want to turn reduce motion on that way when you go into these applications it seems a lot more natural and you don't really see any type of transition it looks really nice and really smooth like stock ios and of course if you wanted to hide other home screens you could just have a fully customized home screen just tap and hold anywhere on the screen then tap on the page dots down on the bottom and you can hide every other home page and you can see there these are the only icons on my springboard now and then of course if you wanted to get rid of one of the icons just tap and hold on it and you can go ahead and delete bookmark just like so very easily now as for the other method to getting custom icons on your springboard this will be the method using the siri shortcuts application right here so what you want to do for this is just go ahead and tap on plus and shortcuts you want to add action go ahead and search for open app open app right there and then go ahead to open and you want to choose whatever application you want to have your custom icon for so for example let me just say camera so we'll just do that right there once we have that selected just click on next we're going to name the shortcut whatever we want it to show up as on the actual springboard of our device like the little label under the icon so camera right there tap on done once it's saved you'll see it right here tap these three dots go to the three dots right here then you want to add to home screen then from here you will see this little icon down here you want to tap on that and this is where you can select a custom icon for this bookmark pretty much for the camera application so if i went to choose file right here you can see in my downloads folder i have a nice collection of little circular icons right here so if i wanted to add one of these that looks like a camera so let me see where camera is so right here and this is circular so it's not going to look the best as you can see right there was not meant for this video but you can see there is a little purple background but of course you guys will get one that fits i'm just going to do this ad click on done go back to the home screen and you'll see we have the ugliest camera logo of all time sitting right there so you guys of course like i said can find these on google if you just search for you know ios icons there are tons of different ios icon packs out there i will also leave some linked down in the description below if you guys wanted to check out some of those i will leave some sites and some specific ones down there for you guys but unfortunately you do have to do that for every application so that's why i was saying it can be pretty tedious but if you don't have a ton of applications on your springboard because you're just hiding a lot of them then it shouldn't take too long and it will be worth it because they will probably all match and look really aesthetic and really nice on your springboard now moving on to the custom cool looking widgets like you see right here for this we actually need two applications from the app store so go into our app store right here and you're just going to search for widget smith so you want to download widget smith right here and then the other one is called color widgets so once you download the applications let's go ahead into widget smith this is the main one we're going to be using and for small number one so of course this is where you can choose if you want a small medium or large widget on your springboard so i'm just gonna go ahead and edit small number one so to edit that just simply tap on it and you will see default widget right here tap again and this is where you get all of your styling right here so you can change the time and if you want to change the location the font the tent color the background color the border color you can change all of that right there so obviously if you didn't want time you can scroll down you can see you have the date right there the month you have custom so if you wanted to add a photo so if you go back to my springboard you can see i kind of typed out a cool little inspirational quote right there you could do things like that we scroll down a little bit more we have upcoming events from the calendar we have reminders of course this does all sync with your iphone as well so it will actually be accurate and display you know information inside your calendar and things like that then you have some premium ones down here for weather and things like that tides these actually do cost money so if you want to stick to the free ones just look for the ones without the little lock icon in the top right hand corner so if you wanted to add your step count you can just go ahead and tap on that right there and it may need access to your health application so we'll turn that on and allow and then from here you can change like i said the font so you have all these different fonts you can choose from the tent color so you can change the color right there the background color so you can change different like opacities and also different colors so if you wanted more of an aesthetic look and more of like a neutral color look you have these pale pinks and these pastel pinks which look really nice obviously not on my background but those will look good on lighter backgrounds then we also have border color down here which borders do not generally look very good so i usually keep those off but you see the point you could change that all right there and you can also have timed widgets down here as well so if we hit save go back to the home screen you can see it shows up right there and if you wanted to add a different one if we go back into widget smith you could just simply tap on add small widget and you can also switch these out as well so on the springboard if we tap and hold on this widget go to edit widget you could change which one you wanted so if i want to change it to number two you can see there it copies that that is number two right there and if i went ahead and edit widget small number three it will change to the one i just created the default one right there so pretty cool and you can do a lot with this this is obviously pretty much bare bones it's not very creative or anything like that but i just wanted to show you how to do it now with color widgets you do have a few other options here as well so you do have some pretty cool little widgets right here that show the time the date and also your charge level right there so if i just added this to the springboard so let's go ahead and set widget like that and then we'll go back to the home screen tap on this go to plus and then we're going to go to color widgets right here and we'll go to this right here and you can see that is what color widgets looks like right there so obviously not the best background not the best look but i'm just showing you guys how to do it and you can customize it to your liking you can also tap and hold on this one edit widget and you can change right in here as well depending on which widgets you have from this application color widgets so yeah guys there you have it that is how you can change the charging sound the app icons and also the widgets on ios 14. so i hope this helped you out i hope you guys are customizing your device me personally i just like a very simple look on my device so i don't really use a ton of these but i know a lot of people are really into it and i think it actually can look really cool so if you guys enjoyed this video i would appreciate if you gave it a thumbs up and of course subscribe so you don't miss a lot more ios 14 content coming very soon but anyways guys thanks again for watching and i'll see you soon youwhat's up guys my name is brandon and ios 14 allows us to customize our iphones more than ever before and i'm sure by now you guys have seen all the cool custom home pages going around over on social media so i wanted to make a tutorial showing you some more unique ways to customize your device here on ios 14. so in this video i'm going to show you how to change your app icon we're going to go ahead and tap on the plus create personal automation scroll down to charger is connected next add action we're going to search for text we're going to paste that text that we just what the label says on your home screen by typing it in right there as well but once you have all the ones you want to be installed selected go down to the bottom here and you will see generate theme tap on that and then you will see this prompt right here asking to download the profile click on allow go to close then you want to go into your settings and just keep in mind that the settings icon for some reason does not work with this method so you will have to maybe just not install the settings icon so anyways once you're in here you will see profile downloaded up top right there go ahead to install put in your passcode install done and then go back to your home screen and you will see we have those custom icons right there which is pretty neat and of course they do open up that application as well so you do see a little bit of a redirect there now if you wanted to get rid of that you can so if we go to our settings accessibility and motion reduce motion you want to turn reduce motion on that way when you go into these applications it seems a lot more natural and you don't really see any type of transition it looks really nice and really smooth like stock ios and of course if you wanted to hide other home screens you could just have a fully customized home screen just tap and hold anywhere on the screen then tap on the page dots down on the bottom and you can hide every other home page and you can see there these are the only icons on my springboard now and then of course if you wanted to get rid of one of the icons just tap and hold on it and you can go ahead and delete bookmark just like so very easily now as for the other method to getting custom icons on your springboard this will be the method using the siri shortcuts application right here so what you want to do for this is just go ahead and tap on plus and shortcuts you want to add action go ahead and search for open app open app right there and then go ahead to open and you want to choose whatever application you want to have your custom icon for so for example let me just say camera so we'll just do that right there once we have that selected just click on next we're going to name the shortcut whatever we want it to show up as on the actual springboard of our device like the little label under the icon so camera right there tap on done once it's saved you'll see it right here tap these three dots go to the three dots right here then you want to add to home screen then from here you will see this little icon down here you want to tap on that and this is where you can select a custom icon for this bookmark pretty much for the camera application so if i went to choose file right here you can see in my downloads folder i have a nice collection of little circular icons right here so if i wanted to add one of these that looks like a camera so let me see where camera is so right here and this is circular so it's not going to look the best as you can see right there was not meant for this video but you can see there is a little purple background but of course you guys will get one that fits i'm just going to do this ad click on done go back to the home screen and you'll see we have the ugliest camera logo of all time sitting right there so you guys of course like i said can find these on google if you just search for you know ios icons there are tons of different ios icon packs out there i will also leave some linked down in the description below if you guys wanted to check out some of those i will leave some sites and some specific ones down there for you guys but unfortunately you do have to do that for every application so that's why i was saying it can be pretty tedious but if you don't have a ton of applications on your springboard because you're just hiding a lot of them then it shouldn't take too long and it will be worth it because they will probably all match and look really aesthetic and really nice on your springboard now moving on to the custom cool looking widgets like you see right here for this we actually need two applications from the app store so go into our app store right here and you're just going to search for widget smith so you want to download widget smith right here and then the other one is called color widgets so once you download the applications let's go ahead into widget smith this is the main one we're going to be using and for small number one so of course this is where you can choose if you want a small medium or large widget on your springboard so i'm just gonna go ahead and edit small number one so to edit that just simply tap on it and you will see default widget right here tap again and this is where you get all of your styling right here so you can change the time and if you want to change the location the font the tent color the background color the border color you can change all of that right there so obviously if you didn't want time you can scroll down you can see you have the date right there the month you have custom so if you wanted to add a photo so if you go back to my springboard you can see i kind of typed out a cool little inspirational quote right there you could do things like that we scroll down a little bit more we have upcoming events from the calendar we have reminders of course this does all sync with your iphone as well so it will actually be accurate and display you know information inside your calendar and things like that then you have some premium ones down here for weather and things like that tides these actually do cost money so if you want to stick to the free ones just look for the ones without the little lock icon in the top right hand corner so if you wanted to add your step count you can just go ahead and tap on that right there and it may need access to your health application so we'll turn that on and allow and then from here you can change like i said the font so you have all these different fonts you can choose from the tent color so you can change the color right there the background color so you can change different like opacities and also different colors so if you wanted more of an aesthetic look and more of like a neutral color look you have these pale pinks and these pastel pinks which look really nice obviously not on my background but those will look good on lighter backgrounds then we also have border color down here which borders do not generally look very good so i usually keep those off but you see the point you could change that all right there and you can also have timed widgets down here as well so if we hit save go back to the home screen you can see it shows up right there and if you wanted to add a different one if we go back into widget smith you could just simply tap on add small widget and you can also switch these out as well so on the springboard if we tap and hold on this widget go to edit widget you could change which one you wanted so if i want to change it to number two you can see there it copies that that is number two right there and if i went ahead and edit widget small number three it will change to the one i just created the default one right there so pretty cool and you can do a lot with this this is obviously pretty much bare bones it's not very creative or anything like that but i just wanted to show you how to do it now with color widgets you do have a few other options here as well so you do have some pretty cool little widgets right here that show the time the date and also your charge level right there so if i just added this to the springboard so let's go ahead and set widget like that and then we'll go back to the home screen tap on this go to plus and then we're going to go to color widgets right here and we'll go to this right here and you can see that is what color widgets looks like right there so obviously not the best background not the best look but i'm just showing you guys how to do it and you can customize it to your liking you can also tap and hold on this one edit widget and you can change right in here as well depending on which widgets you have from this application color widgets so yeah guys there you have it that is how you can change the charging sound the app icons and also the widgets on ios 14. so i hope this helped you out i hope you guys are customizing your device me personally i just like a very simple look on my device so i don't really use a ton of these but i know a lot of people are really into it and i think it actually can look really cool so if you guys enjoyed this video i would appreciate if you gave it a thumbs up and of course subscribe so you don't miss a lot more ios 14 content coming very soon but anyways guys thanks again for watching and i'll see you soon you\n"
