Razer Blade 14 Real-World Test (Performance, Battery Test, & Vlog)

Betting and Gaming Experience at the Track

I'm excited to share with you my experience betting on the next race, where I placed two bets on random numbers, hoping for the best. I had $2 on one of them and $3 on the other, which counts as a placing bet. Unfortunately, the winning number wasn't mine, but I was still happy with the experience.

Moving on to other topics, let's talk about this laptop that I recently purchased. It comes with THX certified speakers, which claim to have 7.1 surround sound capabilities. After using it for some gaming and watching a movie, I can confirm that it sounds great, much like my Razer Blade 15 laptop. The speakers are quite impressive, and I'm happy with the overall audio experience.

Another feature of this laptop is its 720p webcam, which supports Windows Hello facial recognition technology. While I prefer fingerprint sensors for laptops, having a webcam as an alternative is better than nothing. I've had to use Zoom in the past at racing tracks, and this webcam performed well enough.

Unfortunately, one thing that's missing from this laptop is anti-fingerprint coating on the screen. This feature was introduced in the latest Razer Blade 15 model, which was released after this laptop. As someone who often has trouble with fingerprints on their laptops, I find this omission a bit frustrating.

Battery Life and Performance

One of the standout features of this laptop is its battery life, which is better than my Razer Blade 15. While it's not amazing, I appreciate the improvement in terms of runtime. The laptop also costs $200 less than the Blade 15 with similar specs, including a high-refresh-rate QHD screen. This makes it an attractive option for those looking to save money without sacrificing too much performance.

Another advantage of this laptop is its smaller size and weight. With a difference of only half a pound, I find it easier to carry around, especially when traveling or working on the go. As someone who needs to be able to move freely with my equipment, every little bit of weight savings counts.

Ultimately, while there are some drawbacks to this laptop, such as missing features like anti-fingerprint coating, the pros outweigh the cons in my opinion. The improved battery life, cost-effectiveness, and smaller size make it an attractive option for me, even if I do prefer the Blade 15's design and performance.

Closing Thoughts

In conclusion, I'm excited to have had the opportunity to try out this laptop and share my thoughts with you. Whether you're a gamer, traveler, or content creator like me, there are plenty of features in this laptop that make it worth considering. From its impressive speakers to its more portable design, this laptop is definitely worth a look.

"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enthis video is sponsored by visible morning another day another real world test today we're doing it on the razer blade 14 not the old one from a long time ago they made a new one and honestly i'm kind of interested in it because i use a razer blade 15 advanced the top model that they make to do a lot of my video editing this supposedly has a lot of that power but is in a smaller form factor that's all i really want in a laptop smaller more powerful better battery life too we'll see that in a bit but you may notice we're not in new york city we are in louisville kentucky and the reason i'm here is because ge actually brought me here to do some stuff with them filmed a bunch of things yesterday and got a cool tour of their like innovation studio and some of the things that they're working on kind of cool but today i have a full day to myself and so i feel like we should explore louisville because i've never been here while we test out this laptop but first things first okay thank you coffee check right now we're in a place called quills and it's your you know dream situation of local passionate barista turns into coffee shop owner and then of course ends up with multiple locations the location i'm at here is in a neighborhood called nulu and the roastery where they actually roast the beans is attached next door so i can just like sit out here it's a lovely day and i just smell coffee being roasted but i'm really late to jump in on the windows 11 announcement so let's do that real quick and we'll test the battery while we do that okay done with that not gonna lie kind of excited for windows 11 but in the 37 minutes we were watching that we lost 13 which sounds like a lot the device is running at 165 hertz though and the brightness was at 100 so i was curious i changed the brightness down to 50 i changed the refresh rate down to 60 hertz instead of the 165. left it on better battery mode and i've been using it for about 30 minutes now just surfing the web doing research and we lost eight percent now if you do that math i lost 0.35 percent a minute before and now we're losing about 0.26 a minute but now that's got me curious again about how much uh the refresh rate actually affects the battery so 30 more minutes better battery mode 50 at 165 now surfing the web so we have an apples to apples comparison and after 30 minutes of that we lost 8 again so there wasn't a difference between the 60 hertz and the 165 at least not while surfing the web a lot of battery tests in the beginning of this video now though let's talk about the styling of the laptop now as referenced by the name this is an inch smaller than the normal 15 inch models at least the screen is that one inch in screen size though does actually make a pretty big difference in the chassis size and it gives us about a half a pound less in weight speaking of that chassis we have the same cnc unibody aluminum chassis that we do on most razer blades and it is kind of that chassis and that design it just feels more premium and that's kind of what drew me to using razer blade laptops compared to a lot of other windows laptops that at least have the same amount of power as previously mentioned we do have 165 hertz screen which will make movement on the screen a lot smoother you do notice it when scrolling the web and even going through menus in windows but the biggest difference and where you're really going to notice it is if you're gaming because it can refresh the screen faster that means there's less time in between each of those frames and so movement just seems smoother think of it like a flip book the faster you you know flip a flip book with a static image on each page the smoother the animation looks now as a content creator who doesn't really game very much and uses gaming laptops more because of the power that they have to edit my videos it's a feature that i don't really care about that much 60hz is fine for what i do but i have a choice i had to buy the 165 hertz screen because i wanted the top gpu model the rtx 3080 that only comes in that skew we'll talk more about the gpu though later i do like the screen though at 100 brightness i can see it in pretty bright daylight and the matte finish that it has helps as well it's also a qhd resolution which is you know 2560 by 1440 since it's a 16x9 screen so i think they're like somewhere between fhd and 4k also it is not a touchscreen like some of their other models like the 15 advanced that i use which also has a 4k screen that is oled so it's a lot brighter than this one and of course again as a creator i prefer that screen and that display over this and it's not actually that much more expensive than this model there are also some other benefits to the 15 over this as well so i'm very curious by the end of today if i end up wanting to sell my 15 and use this or return this and keep using the 15. so this is royals hot chicken and it's a nashville tennessee hot chicken place in kentucky i don't look good when i was walking by in this neighborhood yesterday and it's two blocks from the cop shop we were just at so i figured i'd give it a try oh my god it's so messy it's just hot sauce pouring out from under it cool i got the hot level not the extra hot or like the gonzo they call it because that terrifies me a little bit it's not that hot it's like a little kick in the back but the flavor is really good into it okay now let's talk about the keyboard firstly now to me it feels great to type on for long periods of time feels similar to the razer blade 15 keyboard and it has customizable per key rgb like the 15 advanced does as well and along with those chrome enabled keys in typical razer fashion we also have the light up three-headed snake logo on the back in green you can adjust the brightness for this in the settings as well as just turn it off entirely also it can do like a breathing effect or just be a solid green personally i kind of like the two-tone look that the studio edition razer blades have they're like a silver or white color instead of the black um and they just have this like a little more subdued logo but i'm still a little bit of a sucker for rgb like it's kind of fun that lights up the trackpad is also pretty good as it's a precision trackpad which helps and it's clicky i still think that the microsoft surface trackpad is kind of my favorite one in windows world and then i think macbooks for some reason i just feel like have the best track pads of any laptops don't know how they do that but it's great regardless though most computers i end up using a separate bluetooth mouse for me i just need that extra precision especially when editing it also just feels better and i'm getting old and so my wrists are hurting from all the years of using track pads in the mouse more ergonomic it's better for my old man problems i guess whatever i like using an external mouse as reports we have plenty we have two usb 3.2 gen 2 type a ports as well as two 3.2 gen 2 type c ports that also support power delivery which means you can charge off of them using anything that supports the power delivery standard so you're getting faster charging than you normally would on a usb port and you can use both of those usb c ports as display port 1.4 ports to drive like nicer monitors something missing with those usb c ports is that unlike most other razer blade laptops now there's no thunderbolt port and that has to do with the fact this is running an amd chipset and not an intel one which we'll dive more into a bit later and we have an hdmi 2.1 port as well that's full size and their proprietary power connector port which works with the 231 charging brick which is not small it's the same exact brick that you get with the 15 advanced and while you will need it to be able to drive enough power to use the gpu and the processor at full like chat the laptop does also support usb power delivery in up to a hundred watts so you can always give it a decent amount of quick power if you need to off of like a battery bank or even a small usb uh c power delivery charger something i actually thought was interesting was on my flight over here i plugged in the 230 watt adapter into the airplane plug and normally when i do that as soon as i start using the laptop it actually blows the fuse on the airplane port not permanently it just like knocks it and then when you unplug the plug back in and turn it back on but it's because it's drawing too much power and that happens with a lot of laptops on planes so you have to use like a usb c power delivery charger that only draws 65 watts because that's around the limit for most airplanes interestingly enough though that 230 watt charger did not blow the fuse like it normally would i actually sat there and waited for it and it just didn't happen asked razer why that might be and they told me that they actually ended up studying airplane power ports and changed the way that their chargers now work so they don't do that which is pretty cool frankly but regardless you do have those two options for charging just if you're using anything other than the you know 230 watt brick you're not going to get the full power of the gpu and cpu and while nashville chicken is not a kentucky thing by any means the next thing we're going to do very much is a bird pork the bird another didn't die on a bird ride so that's great we made it to our next stop bourbon it's not just a big part of kentucky's history but as a third of all bourbon in the world comes from louisville itself it's a big part of the city's history as well this is old forester and has been on the market continuously for longer than any other bourbon 150 years or so it has this distinction in part because during prohibition when alcohol was outlawed here in the states it received one of only six licenses authorizing them to continue selling it for medicinal purposes now the founder was a pharmaceutical salesman since back then alcohol was also sold as medicine and he had the clever idea of selling his bourbon exclusively in bottles sealed so they were guaranteed to arrive the way that they left the distillery to avoid the common problem of the liquor being siphoned from the barrels and then replaced with other gross things to make them look like it wasn't during transport and this is their new small distillery that is housed inside their original building on part of main street called whiskey row here in louisville they were here from 1882 to 1919 but now have reclaimed and renovated the space that you see now in 2018. it's just like a lovely space to witness all the different aspects that are involved in making bourbon they even show you the barrel making process being one of the only large-scale distillers to make their own barrels cool while we're on the outskirts of whiskey row let's talk a little bit about what comes inside this laptop it's razer's only amd powered laptop as i hinted at before and it features a ryzen 9 5900 hx which is one of their top tier cpus the x by the way means that it's overclockable and that's paired with rtx 3080 which is the highest gpu from nvidia that you can get in a laptop at the moment but it is the 8 gig version not the 16 gig there are actually different skus that have different amounts of vram my razer blade 15 for example is a 3080 but a 16 gig this is an eight it doesn't matter too much unless you're doing very like data intense workloads really like 3d renderers and that kind of stuff like if you're building a video game you might want the 16 gig over the 8 because it'll just give you a little more leeway with what it can store in that memory at a time for most games and for my video editing workflow not a big video one thing though that did concern me was the fact this has a fixed 16 gigs of ram it is soldered to the motherboard so you cannot upgrade it also that is something to do with keeping the form factor small i don't know but most other blades and a lot of laptops in general in this genre have upgradeable ram so you can swap out the ram yourself and bring it up to 64 gigs if you really wanted i can say thankfully though that i have edited a few videos on this laptop already and with my normal like 4k 10 bit sony a7s 3 footage that bogs down a lot of computers and i cancel the difference between this and the blade 15 that i have very relieved not gonna lie and we have a one terabyte ssd in here which thankfully is upgradable and that's actually a huge relief i think not just for me but any gamers that want this laptop as well because games take up a lot of space my footage takes up a lot of space and one terabyte isn't cutting it now there is only one slot most laptops only in one slot but again coming from the blade 15 and some other newer gaming laptops they now have two slots and so you can kind of have your windows and everything on one of the ssds and then just upgrade the second empty slot so it's much easier to just add storage i against razer's wishes put a four terabyte ssd in here and even an eight terabyte ssd in here just to see if they would fit they do but because they're double stacked in order to get those higher capacities they don't quite fit in the slot you'll notice there's a little bit of a bend which is you know not good when it comes to ssds but i had that same issue with the second slot in my razer blade 15. i just kind of put it in there and just pretended it wasn't bent and while you physically can do it as i've proven i also don't recommend it because that little bend is gonna cause a problem over enough time so maybe stick with up to a two terabyte but even that is gonna give you a lot more leeway than the one terabyte that this comes with now besides bourbon the other thing that kentucky is really known for horse racing this is churchill downs it's a racetrack in the southern part of louisville that is most famous for you know a little race that they do called the kentucky derby so i figured let's uh hang out here test the laptop a little bit more maybe win some money on a horse probably not before that though let's talk about saving money with today's sponsor visible now visible powered by verizon 5g included is a super fast network in fact they even support esim devices so if you have any sim device you can activate service from the comfort of your own home in 15 minutes or less right now that works on iphones but it's coming to android phones very soon and right now you can get your first month service for just five dollars a month when signing up using an e-sim from july 14th to july 29th besides that though visible is always a deal with just 40 a month for unlimited everything and right now new customers can get 200 to spend online when you transfer your existing number over to visible before july 14th so even more reason to check them out right now at the link in the description i below placed two bets on this next race no idea what i just bet on just i just picked random numbers let's hope for the best and i've had two dollars on one of them and three dollars on the other big spender over here the one that i wanted to win didn't win but the one i wanted to place one which counts as placing so i got one bowler okay races are done let's talk a little bit about this laptop some more so we have thx certified speakers they're supposedly 7.1 surround sound regardless of the certifications and what they say they sound good i played a couple of games watched a movie sounds great reminds me very much of the razer blade 15. we also have a 720p webcam above the screen and it does support windows hello so it can do facial recognition to allow you to log into your computer now i honestly prefer fingerprint sensors when it comes to laptops just nowadays i find that they're just faster they're more consistent but i would rather have the facial unlock than nothing at all so here's what that webcam looks like and sounds like should you happen to have to do a zoom at a racetrack now lastly something i would like to see on this model that is actually on the latest razer blade 15 the one that just came out the new refresh is an anti-fingerprint coding if you could tell throughout this video it's it's a bit of a fingerprint magnet and kind of always has been at least the mac black has so it would have been nice because this laptop did come out after that one to have seen that same coding i mean i get it i'm sure this laptop was like in development way before that one released et cetera et cetera but it's just something that i personally am like oh i wish we should have that little thing obviously but i won and now since i only been on one race and happened to win somehow i'm gonna head out of here uh and leave a winner with my two dollars and confirm okay calling it a night now some closing thoughts about the laptop the battery life is better than my razer blade 15. for sure it's not amazing but it's better which i appreciate because the blade 15 is not great it's also about 200 less than the blade 15 with the same type of screen that qhd high refresh rate although that's a 240 hertz and this is 165 but there's a 200 difference between the two the thing is is that on that 15 inch side you get the extra ssd slot you get an sd card slot which if you're like me and use a camera all the time that's kind of helpful you also have those two usb c ports are thunderbolt capable on that an extra usb a port a display port on top of the hdmi and while you do get that same 30 80 8 gig model on that screen configuration with the you know 240 hertz qhd as opposed to the 16 with the oled screen you do get 32 gigs of ram with the laptop and then you can upgrade that to 64. so looking at pure specs that 200 i mean gets you a decent amount of stuff it's up to you whether it's terribly that important to you or not but there is something in that in this way it feels like you're being charged more because the laptop is smaller and with all that said i'm probably going to go with the 14 sell the 15. honestly like that half a pound this smaller size it just makes it a lot more portable for me and for what i am doing with it which traveling around and making videos any little weight i can shave off any like signs i can shave off is really important to me and it tells all the power to handle my videos just the same as the 15 while shedding the weight and the other things that i'm now missing for me at least the pros are outweighing the cons in this scenario there you go hope you guys enjoyed that let me know in the comments below what you thought of this video travel video i know crazy excited to be able to do that again but appreciate your feedback let me know how i can improve this series i always appreciate hearing from you guys if you like this video please thumbs up it or share it's greatly appreciated also check out the rest of the channel if you like to see there please subscribe and ding the bell i swear subscribe so you get notified when i do new videos as
